Chapter 55 Deer and Shu

Following the sound, Li Molin arrived at a certain part of the maze. There, a very elegant strange beast slowly emerged from behind a boulder as tall as a person.

The strange beast was about half a person's height and about half a zhang long. It looked like a horse, with a white head, tiger-like stripes on its body, and a red tail. It was an ancient mythical beast called "Lushu".

The Deer-Shu is an ancient mythical beast, now as rare as phoenix feathers on the continent. Its cry sounds like a human chant, and it is adept at using sound to bewitch people. In the giant stone maze, the Deer-Shu often works in coordination with the Illusionary Spirit. Only after the Illusionary Spirit senses the obsessions of those in the maze will it make a sound to bewitch them before attacking.

Li Molin stood there, his eyes lowered, his expression blank, as if he had lost his soul.

"Tap, tap." Lu Shu approached Li Molin with elegant steps, calling softly in a seductive voice, "Lin'er..."

"Mother!" Li Molin suddenly looked up, and when he saw the deer in front of him, his body trembled violently. However, in the moment he regained his senses, the deer suddenly leaped and kicked Li Molin to the ground.

The deer-like creature had powerful hooves. Its two hind hooves were firmly planted on Li Molin's chest and abdomen, one front hoof was on his left shoulder, and the other front hoof was on his vulnerable throat, about to press down hard.

Li Molin broke out in a cold sweat and subconsciously concentrated his magic power at his throat. His only free hand gripped the skull staff, unleashing a sharp magical aura about a foot long, which swiftly pierced towards Lu Shu's neck.

Lu Shu nimbly leaped forward to dodge the skull staff. At the same time, Li Molin felt a tightness in his throat, his trachea narrowly avoiding being crushed by Lu Shu.

He struggled to his feet, clutching his throat and coughing softly.

As his consciousness gradually returned, he realized that his mind had been bewitched by this deer-like creature, which was why he had been so disoriented.

He turned his head and looked around but couldn't see Liuli, and a sense of panic welled up inside him. Then, he angrily looked at Lu Shu, swung his skull staff, and unleashed three ghostly faces that roared as they attacked it.

Although the three ghost faces looked menacing, it was obvious to anyone with eyes that they were actually all bark and no bite. The black aura around them was much lighter than the ghost faces that Li Molin had summoned before, probably because Li Molin had stayed in this maze for too long and had lost too much magic power.

Even though the three ghostly faces were all bark and no bite, the Deer-like creature still dared not face their attack, instead turning and nimbly running away. The Deer-like creature's attack power lay in its ability to bewitch people with its voice; it would ambush and kill its enemies in the moment of confusion, and if it couldn't kill them, it would flee far away.

Li Molin knew clearly that he only had less than 30% of his magic power left. Worried about Liuli's danger, he didn't chase after Lu Shu, but instead called out, "Liuli! Where are you?"

Without a reply, Li Molin, in his desperation, randomly chose a direction and rushed forward, calling out Liuli's name all the way.

A long time passed like this. When Li Molin's magic power was reduced to less than one-tenth, he finally heard Liuli's weak voice. At that moment, he felt that it was the most beautiful voice in the world.

He mustered all his strength and roared, "Liuli! Can you hear me?"

After a while, Liuli's voice came from somewhere, weak and feeble: "I can hear you, Li Molin, you bastard, where are you?"

Li Molin was overjoyed and called out, "Liuli, you don't need to worry about where I am. Fly into the sky now. I just remembered that the exit of the giant stone maze is in the sky! But remember to be careful of the dangers that may appear in the air!"

At that time, Liuli only had half of her spiritual power left. She was also extremely exhausted from searching for Li Molin. Hearing Li Molin's words, she mustered her strength and tried her best to fly into the sky. After flying for more than a hundred feet, she finally broke out of the fog-shrouded area. Her vision cleared up, and she felt relieved.

At this moment, Li Molin, about a mile away in the air, also broke through the mist and soared into the sky. Upon emerging, he felt not relief, but rather some confusion. While it was true that the exit of the giant stone maze was in the air, normally there would be various restrictions above the maze to prevent those who tried to enter. This maze beneath his feet was not only ingeniously designed, but also contained a rare and exotic beast, the deer-like creature, so why were there no restrictions placed above it?

...Could it be that the person who set up the formation was afraid of offending the heavens and deliberately left a way out?

He put these questions aside and flew quickly towards Liuli. However, when he arrived in front of Liuli, before he could even ask if she was alright, the originally scorching weather suddenly turned cold, as if it had instantly turned into the coldest time of winter.

Li Molin looked up in horror and saw that the blazing sun on the distant horizon had turned ice blue. The climate in the entire death array also became extremely cold in an instant. Above the maze, ice blue light was gathering and quickly turned into countless ice blades and ice swords, which fell all over the sky.

Looking up at the situation, Liuli's face turned pale. Not to mention that she only had half of her spiritual power left in her body, even when she was at her peak, she couldn't dodge the countless ice blades and ice swords.

"It's over, it's over..." Liuli looked down at Li Molin, her face pale, and said bitterly, "Li Molin, we're doomed!"

Numerous ice blades shot towards her in the blink of an eye, but Liuli didn't even bother to dodge, seemingly resigned to her fate. Li Molin, however, moved swiftly, catching Liuli in his arms before the ice blades could fall. He lowered his head deeply, holding Liuli tightly in his embrace, and concentrated all the remaining magic power in his body into a barrier on his back, using his broad back to shield Liuli from all the ice blades.
