Chapter 54 Phantom

As the man and the fox wandered aimlessly through the Stonehenge, a mysterious, ethereal force silently approached them from behind. Liuli was completely unaware, but Li Molin did. Instinctively, he pulled Liuli close, holding her to his chest and using his strong back to shield her from the mysterious force.

The mysterious power entered his body, and Li Molin's body trembled. His vision went black for a moment, and he felt a sharp pain in his head.

“Lin’er…” a soft, beautiful voice called to him gently.

Li Molin stumbled, leaning against Liuli. In the darkness before him appeared a woman's gentle smile. She bent down, and on her slender hand, which she held out to him, was a slightly swaying seven-colored flower. A faint fragrance filled the air, and he couldn't quite tell if it was the scent of the flower or his mother's.

...It turned out that so much time had passed, so much so that he had forgotten even her scent.

Li Molin felt a sharp pain in his heart.

"Li Molin! Li Molin!" Liuli felt Li Molin leaning weakly against her. She was terrified and shook him, calling out loudly.

Li Molin's body grew weaker and weaker. Liu Li couldn't support him and tried to pull him, but he still slid down to the ground little by little.

Liuli called his name in alarm and shook his body repeatedly.

"Li Molin!..."

Images from Li Molin's childhood flashed before his eyes, finally settling on the back of a woman in the distance. Just as he was in unbearable pain, a familiar voice came from the sky, calling his name again and again.

Li Molin suddenly awoke, still dazed. Before he could even see the face before him clearly, he instinctively opened his arms and pulled her into his embrace. Through his blurred vision, he choked out in a voice filled with deep longing, "Mother, Mother... don't go..."

Liu Li was stunned. Hesitantly, she reached out and gently patted his back, trying to soften her voice as she comforted him, "It's alright, Li Molin, it's alright..."

Li Molin gradually came to his senses. Hearing the familiar voice in his ear and smelling the familiar fragrance in his nose, Li Molin quickly realized what he had shouted when he first woke up from the illusion. His brow twitched involuntarily, and he felt great regret.

He opened his eyes, and after a long pause to prepare his words, he slowly released Liuli. He lowered his eyes, not daring to look at her face, and stammered, "I...I was just...I was attacked by the phantom spirit..."

It was rare for Liuli to see him like this. She suppressed a laugh and comforted him, "It's okay. I know you were attacked by the phantom spirit while trying to save me. I won't tell anyone that you called me 'mother'! Um... absolutely not!"

Li Molin glanced at her, and seeing her barely suppressed laughter, he knew that with her mischievous nature, she wouldn't let it go so easily. He shook his head with a wry smile, and struggled to his feet, saying, "Alright, let's find a way out first..."

"Okay, okay." Liuli nodded hurriedly and helped Li Molin up.

Just as the human and the fox were helping each other to their feet and walking forward, a faint, ethereal voice suddenly drifted over, calling out, "Lin'er..."

Li Molin was startled and turned around to look around, his expression one of panic and confusion.

"Lin'er, my Lin'er, come to your mother... come quickly..."

“Mother?…” Li Molin’s eyes widened, his face was pale, and his thin lips were deathly white as he called out in a trembling voice, “Mother, is that you?”

Liuli looked around and hesitated, "How is this possible, Li Molin? How could your mother be here? Could it be the work of a phantom spirit?"

“But…” Li Molin seemed to have completely lost his mind. He was about to walk forward in the direction of the sound when he murmured, “But that’s Mother’s voice, it really is her voice…”

"Li Molin!" Liuli grabbed him and said urgently, "Wake up! How could that be your mother's voice? It's dangerous, you can't go! Li Molin!"

Then the soft, melodious female voice continued softly, "Lin'er, my Lin'er, why don't you come to your mother? Don't you miss your mother?"

Li Molin's eyes instantly turned red, and tears streamed down his face. He looked so vulnerable, like a child, which made Liuli feel inexplicably sorry for him.

He suddenly shook off Liuli's hand and ran towards the direction from which the sound came.

Liuli was startled and quickly chased after him.

The voice rang out again, ethereal and alluring, whispering, "Lin'er, my Lin'er, your mother only wants to see you. You must help your mother stop that little girl, or your mother will not be able to see you..."

Upon hearing this, Li Molin obediently summoned three ghost faces with his skull staff to block Liuli's path. Liuli was furious and repeatedly swung her Winged Spirit Whip, shattering the three ghost faces into pieces. However, in that brief moment, Li Molin had already vanished.

In this eerie environment, Li Molin disappeared again. Liuli was both frightened and furious, and shouted, "Li Molin! You bastard, you're such an idiot! Ugh! I'm so angry!"

After venting her anger, she still had no choice but to chase after Li Molin in the direction he had disappeared. At this moment, because she had lost some of her spiritual power when she was entangled by vines upon arriving at the Death Array, and had lost even more spiritual power after staying in the boulder maze for so long, Liuli's spiritual power was less than half of what it used to be.

She felt as if she had followed the direction in which Li Molin disappeared, but she couldn't find him anywhere. Liuli was extremely anxious, wandering aimlessly through the formation like a headless fly. She didn't know the time, but she felt as if she had been spinning for a very, very long time, and her spiritual energy had been depleted by nearly 20%, yet she still couldn't find Li Molin.

Left with no other choice, Liuli stopped, her knees slightly bent, her hands resting on them, panting heavily, and weakly called out, "Li Molin, where are you?"
