It wasn't until late at night, when the three children were asleep, that Meng Wan could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
The three children squeezed onto one bed, with Meng Zhiyao nestled in the middle, sleeping peacefully. In contrast, the other two little devils had one hand on Meng Zhiyao's face and the other's leg on her lap, sleeping in all crooked positions, without any semblance of proper sleeping posture.
Meng Wan covered the two of them with blankets, and to prevent Tang Li from touching his wounds, she carefully picked him up and took him back to the room that Meng Boqun had specially prepared for him.
"Sister." Tang Li mumbled in a daze, as if talking in his sleep.
"Okay, get some sleep." Meng Wan's gaze softened as she covered him with the blanket and gently patted his chest until he fell soundly asleep again before getting up and leaving the room.
After leaving the room, Qin Yi tiptoed over and handed Meng Wan a glass of warm water.
"Are they all asleep?" she asked in a low voice.
Meng Wan took a sip of water, nodded, and felt her throat feel much better.
"Those three kids are really clingy to you, you must be exhausted?" Qin Yi took the empty cup.
"It's alright, it's getting late, you and Dad should go to bed early too." Meng Wan glanced at the time.
Qin Yi nodded, and soon the entire Meng family home was plunged into darkness, except for Meng Wan's room where a warm yellow light was still on.
She looked at the document Tang Qi had sent her, which detailed evidence of Qin Huai'an bribing judges in Qin Yang's previous competitions, as well as his hiring of a ghostwriter.
After closing the document, Meng Wan also exported the video footage from her camera and sent it to him.
"What time are you going tomorrow? I'll come too."
"Ten o'clock, I'll pick you up downstairs." Tang Qi replied quickly.
Meng Wan was very satisfied and sent an OK emoji.
The next morning, Meng Wan packed her things and prepared to leave.
The child was full of energy and got up very early in the morning, but he was well-behaved and didn't run around. Instead, he stayed in his room playing with his toys.
The Tyrannosaurus Rex lay by the window, lazily basking in the sun. The three people and the dog looked warm and harmonious.
"I'm going out for a bit. Don't wander off. I'll take Tianqi home when I get back."
"Sister, where are you going?" Meng Zhiyao immediately put down the picture book in her hand, and Tang Li stopped playing with Zhao Tianqi and looked at Meng Wan with longing eyes.
If it weren't for my leg injury, I would have been the one rushing over there.
"I have some errands to run, I'll be right back. Listen to your mother. She's making cookies for you."
"Little biscuits! Yay!" Of the three little ones, Zhao Tianqi was the most carefree and optimistic.
Meng Wan smiled, gently patted Meng Zhiyao's head, and then went over to pat Tang Li's head, her expression full of tenderness.
"I'll bring you some delicious food when I come back." With that, he closed the door and left the Meng family.
The two little ones exchanged a glance, both looking slightly disappointed.
"It's not like your sister isn't coming back, why are you making such a fuss?"
You don't understand!
The two shouted at him in unison, which made Zhao Tianqi look confused, wondering what he had said wrong.
As an only child, he really couldn't understand those of people who had older brothers and sisters.
"Are you still going to play?" Zhao Tianqi asked cautiously, afraid of accidentally stepping on the landmines of two sister-obsessed girls.
"Play!" Tang Li picked up the toy in his hand with a fierce look on his face.
The way it looked didn't seem like they were playing; it was more like they were about to hit him with some kind of weapon, which made Zhao Tianqi shrink back in fear.
Meanwhile, Meng Wan saw Tang Qi's car as soon as she went downstairs.
Unlike Yan Nian, who would open the car door and wait for her to get in and sit down, Tang Qi simply pressed the open door button indifferently.
Meng Wan opened the door, got into the car, and the car started moving the moment she fastened her seatbelt.
How is he?
"You don't even call to ask yourself." Meng Wan rolled her eyes at Tang Qi.
Tang Qi remained silent, like a taciturn man.
Both brothers were like that. Yesterday, Tang Li kept glancing at his phone, afraid of missing a message from someone.
Unfortunately, that person remained as stubborn as ever and didn't send a single message.
But Meng Wan, as someone involved, was unaware that she was also one of those people.
"He can eat, drink, and play, but he's definitely not feeling well. We can only let him recover like this for now." Meng Wan finally explained Tang Li's condition.
They remained silent the entire way until the car stopped in front of the Qin residence. The gate was wide open, and the two of them, without any pretense, walked straight inside.
In the morning, the old man would drink tea and listen to music in the backyard. The two of them followed the sound of the music and found Qin Huai'an humming a tune leisurely, looking very comfortable, without the slightest bit of guilt or unease.
"Mr. Tang, Ms. Meng, isn't it inappropriate to visit without prior notice?" The butler, having received the message from the monitoring room, immediately rushed over and blocked their path.
"So the Qin family can be polite too?" Meng Wan feigned surprise.
The butler choked, clearly aware of what had happened yesterday.
"The Qin family naturally welcomes you two, but rules are rules. You are, after all, juniors, and the proper etiquette must be observed."
"Really? Then please pass this on to Mr. Qin, an elder. Please remember to make an appointment in advance, as I've been quite busy lately and I'm afraid Mr. Qin will have to wait a while."
Tang Qi smiled, his peach blossom eyes carrying a captivating allure. He handed the documents to the butler and patted Meng Wan on the back of the head.
Meng Wan understood, raised an eyebrow, and followed Tang Qi out of the Qin family.
Seeing that the two left so easily, the butler felt that things were not so simple.
