His possessiveness was too obvious. Meng Zhilian's gaze swept over Ji Sheng's hand on Lan Xing's shoulder, revealing no emotional fluctuation.
"Will you die if you wait a while? You can ask someone to take it up for you, or if you really can't, can't you just go to the warehouse and get it yourself?" Lan Xing nudged Ji Sheng with her elbow, and the latter winced in pain but stubbornly refused to let go.
"After all these years, how come you still hit so hard!" Ji Sheng hunched over, his expression contorted.
Lan Xing didn't feel any pity. She raised her hand as if to strike, but in the end, she only scared him and didn't actually do it.
"It's almost time. I'll adjust the equipment and get ready to start the performance." Faced with the two's oblivious intimacy, Meng Zhilian lowered his head and adjusted the microphone angle.
Lan Xing glanced at the time on the wall. "Then you go ahead and do your work. Let's go get the wine."
The first half of the sentence was polite, while the second half carried a hint of helplessness.
Ji Sheng glanced at Meng Zhilian seemingly casually, a smug smile playing on his lips.
"Hey, what are you grinning about? Come over here!" Lan Xing took a couple of steps, but found Ji Sheng still standing there, grinning to himself.
"You're here! It's been a long time since I've had tea with my uncle. How about we go tomorrow?"
"Go if you want to, it's not like anyone's stopping you."
"What are your plans for tomorrow……"
The two voices gradually faded away, and the figures leaning against each other gradually disappeared from Meng Zhilian's sight. Only then did Meng Zhilian raise his head.
The final night ended perfectly. Meng Zhilian said goodbye to his colleagues and then quietly left with his suitcase on his back.
"Hey, where's Meng Zhilian?" Lan Xing looked around and leaned against the wine table when she didn't see him.
"They just left not long ago."
"He didn't even say hello," Lan Xing muttered, but made no attempt to chase after him.
Meng Zhilian wandered the streets after leaving. He paused for a moment when he passed a convenience store, but still went inside. When he came out, he was holding an ice cream.
Compared to his two older brothers, Meng Zhilian doesn't consider himself a rational person. Most of the time, he forces himself to be rational by being indifferent, but this is more of an escape.
Just like that night, even though it wasn't his business, he still went upstairs when he saw a drunk person harassing a girl.
He needed that job, he needed to stay calm, he needed to pretend he didn't see it... He repeated these words countless times in his mind, but his body reacted automatically.
He pulled the drunken guest away, but the guest became relentless. It was at this moment that Lan Xing appeared.
In the dimly lit bar, she stood out brightly, flamboyantly, and dazzlingly. She picked up a bottle and smashed it directly over the head of a drunk customer.
Screams erupted one after another, but Lan Xing, standing in the center circle, smiled innocently and brightly.
"Sorry, I went a little too far."
She smiled, revealing a canine tooth.
Perhaps it was at that moment that Meng Zhilian, who had never believed in love at first sight, was moved.
But that was only for a moment. He thought they would never cross paths again, but unexpectedly, he ended up working at her bar, and he never imagined that his own sister would be her best friend.
He understood that they were from two different worlds. Now, leaving the tavern, he felt a sense of relief; perhaps distancing himself a little would put an end to these unrealistic fantasies.
The next day, after obtaining Meng Zhiyao's permission, Meng Wan sat beside him and watched him draw.
When Meng Zhiyao paints, he becomes completely immersed in his own world, so even though Meng Wan is sitting next to him and staring at him, he doesn't feel uncomfortable at all. He just goes about his business without any awkwardness.
"Come out with me."
Meng Zhiyao ignored her and continued coloring the painting.
"In return, I will buy you the latest paints from the Cass brand."
Meng Zhiyao paused slightly; the magazine he had opened beside him was the latest issue from the Cass family.
Speaking of this magazine, it was Meng Wan who asked Qin Yi to give it to him.
Meng Zhiyao rarely goes out, but she loves reading and drawing. So Qin Yi would occasionally go to secondhand bookstores to find some painting books or materials for Meng Zhiyao to use for her daily entertainment. If Qin Yi mixed them with other magazines, things would go much more smoothly.
"By the way, do you know Qian Yixuan?"
Meng Zhiyao closed the magazine; the first page featured a photo of Qian Yixuan.
"He'll be here to pick you up soon."
Meng Zhiyao has now given Meng Wan a proper look.
Because he hasn't left the house for many years, his skin is so white it glows. Combined with his young age and good skin, he looks like a cute little white kitten.
Meng Wan couldn't resist rubbing his face. Meng Zhiyao instinctively dodged, and opened his mouth to bite, but the moment Meng Wan's hand touched him, he obediently stopped moving. His earlobes were pink, making people's hearts soften.
"Come on, let's change our clothes. We'll be back soon. If you're worried about going out with me, then I'll have Mom go with you. I won't go."
Meng Wan rubbed his head, intending to get up and discuss it with Qin Yi, but Meng Zhiyao suddenly grabbed her hand.
"Hmm?" Meng Wan stopped what she was doing.
"Go with...you."
Meng Wan smiled and smiled sweetly. "So good."
She poked Meng Zhiyao's cheek lightly, without even leaving a red mark.
When Meng Zhiyao appeared in the lobby after packing her backpack and changing her clothes, she startled Qin Yi.
"Wanwan, how did you do that?" Qin Yi asked softly, looking at Meng Zhiyao who was changing her shoes.
Meng Wan didn't answer, but just blinked, her eyes sparkling with liveliness.
Qin Yi was genuinely happy. She straightened their clothes, stood at the door watching them leave, and her eyes were slightly moist.
As the two walked out the door, Meng Zhiyao, who hadn't been out for a long time, instinctively grabbed Meng Wan's sleeve, looking slightly awkward with her head down.
"Want to hold hands?" she asked gently, opening her palm.
Meng Zhiyao glanced up at her, then quickly looked away, pursed his lips, and finally released his grip on Meng Wan's clothes, placing his hand on hers. Meng Wan smiled and took his hand.
Warmth passed between their palms as the two walked through the alley. When they encountered neighbors returning from grocery shopping, Meng Wan would generously introduce him as her younger brother, but she didn't force Meng Zhiyao to greet them. Instead, she took care of his feelings, saying hello and leaving without lingering.
"Wanwan." If He Tong's voice was as clear and distinctive as a spring in winter, then the owner of that voice was like a stream in summer, making people feel incredibly comfortable.
"Qian Yixuan, long time no see." Meng Wan raised her hand to greet him, but did not let go of Meng Zhiyao's hand.
Qian Yixuan closed the car door, wanting to hug Meng Wan, but when he caught sight of the little bundle of joy she was holding, he had no choice but to put his hand down.
"This is your younger brother?"
"Yes, Meng Zhiyao."
Hearing Meng Wan call her name, Meng Zhiyao didn't look up, but silently took a step back so that Meng Wan could block her.
