Chapter 7 won't sell me out after all.

"Wanwan is really amazing." Qin Yi smiled gently, her eyes filled with genuine pride.

Meng Wan smiled slightly and put her phone away.

"Instead of tuition fees, when will you register my household and change my name? You don't need to make a special trip; just give me the household registration book."

"Are you sure you can manage alone? I'll go instead." Meng Boqun showed no sign of distrust.

"Sure, don't worry."

Unable to refuse Meng Wan's request, Qin Yi found her household registration booklet and handed it to her. To their surprise, Meng Wan had already taken care of everything in just one afternoon.

In the evening, Meng Zhili returned. The fan whirred gently, and Qin Yi and Meng Boqun recounted their discussion from lunchtime to him.

“At school drop-off and pick-up times, there are many food stalls at the gate of our school. Even if the food looks and tastes average, there are still many students gathered around. Mom, your cooking skills are so good, I think this is a good idea.”

Meng Zhili inherited Qin Yi's personality; he was gentle and kind, like a well-educated and virtuous nobleman from ancient times. He truly lived up to his name.

"However, setting up a stall requires a cart..."

"No need for that..."

"Don't worry about that." Meng Wan had just opened her mouth when Meng Zhili's voice drowned her out. His voice wasn't loud, but he caught his breath and coughed a few times.

Everyone's attention was drawn to him. Meng Wan looked at his somewhat pale face and frowned slightly. The movement was so subtle that no one noticed.

"Don't rush, tell me slowly." Qin Yi patted his back to help him catch his breath, and Meng Boqun poured him a glass of water and handed it to him.

“I work part-time at a restaurant, and there’s an unused stall cart in the backyard. The owner bought it a few years ago, but it’s no longer needed. I’m going to message him to see if I can take it over.”

This family seems to have no concept of "waiting time"; they are exceptionally efficient in their actions, and once they have a goal, they can immediately decide on the general direction and put it into action.

The boss seemed to like Meng Zhili, the part-time worker, and soon sent a message saying that he was also planning to throw her away, and that she could take her if she didn't mind.

Everyone was very happy and started calculating the cost of materials, labor, and so on. They chatted until midnight, even though the couple usually went to bed at ten o'clock.

Seeing that the others were still in good spirits, Meng Wan thought for a moment and then revealed her plan.

"I'd like to rearrange the room tomorrow, is that alright?"

The three of them were taken aback. "Is it because you're not used to sleeping here?"

Meng Wan shook her head. "I looked at the three rooms this afternoon. My room has the best lighting, followed by my parents' room, and the worst is the one my second brother and his family are staying in. It's small and has no light."

“I was thinking that my parents would stay in my room, and I would divide your room into two sections for me and Yaoyao. He always draws by the lamp and his eyes will develop problems soon. My older brother doesn’t come home often, and since younger people have better immunity, we’ll just stay in that room. At least it won’t be too crowded.”

Meng Wan spoke sincerely, but the night was dark, and the atmosphere of the originally heated discussion also subsided.

"Wanwan, Zhiyi was staying in the same room before you came. There's no reason for you to change rooms now that you're here. I don't agree to this." Qin Yi looked away, her smile gone.

“I disagree as well. You didn’t enjoy life when the family was wealthy, and now that things have fallen on hard times, you have to suffer. Although Dad can’t give you a better life now, I at least hope to give you the best within our means. I also disagree with this.”

Meng Wan was stunned by the unexpected outcome and subconsciously looked up at Meng Zhili. Meng Zhili avoided her gaze, clearly siding with her parents.

Meng Wan sighed, unable to describe how she felt.

"In that case, at least let Yaoyao come to my place. I'll partition the room; he's still young, and living in a room without sunlight will affect his growth. I'll discuss it with Yaoyao tomorrow; can we decide this between the two of us?"

"Besides, I can apply for school dormitories when school starts. Instead of leaving the rooms empty, I might as well make good use of them."

"Were you planning to move to the school from the beginning?"

The topic kept changing.

"You don't have to stay," Meng Wan shrugged, leaving everyone guessing.

“If the school makes you more comfortable, I won’t stop you.”

There's no place like home.

Meng Wan's words made everyone present laugh.

"Alright, it's getting late, everyone should get some rest." Meng Boqun glanced at the clock.

"Okay." As soon as he finished speaking, Meng Zhili's expression changed, and he turned his head away and coughed violently.

The couple surrounded him, their faces filled with worry.

"If you don't mind, may I take your pulse?" Meng Wan asked after Meng Zhili had recovered.

"Of course." Meng Zhili reached out her hand without hesitation. "You can do this too?"

“I learned some things from an old… elder.” Meng Wan placed her hand directly on Meng Zhili’s wrist.

Despite being a grown man, and in the middle of summer, his hands were as cold as ice.

"It's not easy for you to have survived until now."

Meng Wan's words surprised Meng Zhili, but he did not feel offended.

“Zhili and your third brother are twins. When they did the ultrasound, a doctor said that your second brother had little chance of surviving. When I heard that, I felt like the sky was falling. Fortunately, God had mercy. Although Zhili was admitted to the intensive care unit as soon as he was born, he survived.”

Qin Yi looked worried.

"Yes, all these years I've been kept alive by all sorts of strange medicines." Meng Zhili said this with a relaxed expression, as if trying to break the heavy and serious atmosphere.
