Chapter 9 The Supermarket Owner's Son

At 9:00 AM on June 6th, the current room temperature was 32 degrees Celsius, and the highest temperature of the day was 36 degrees Celsius. There were no abnormalities.

Countdown: 28 days

After a night of nightmares, Wang Feifei woke up at nine o'clock. Without even having breakfast, she immediately packed her things and moved to a very ordinary budget hotel in the south of the city.

Although Xiao Liu's sudden visit last night doesn't pose a threat at the moment, it's best to move out as soon as possible for safety reasons.

When choosing a hotel this time, the primary consideration was distance.

Wang Feifei drove to a small town on the southern outskirts of the city and eventually chose a somewhat run-down budget hotel.

It's only a half-hour drive from the abandoned construction site. Although it looks a bit dilapidated, the elevator leads directly to the underground parking lot, making it easy to escape quickly.

As soon as she settled in, Wang Feifei rushed to the unfinished building, as today was the day the repairman was to come to her door.

She had just arrived when the deliveryman showed up; the timing was perfect.

The construction went very smoothly today. The workers we found in the old town were very efficient and managed to block up the windows of three houses plus the attic with brick walls in just one day.

Only one window in the living room on the 28th floor was left unsealed.

To prevent anyone from noticing anything amiss from the outside, Wang Feifei had the contractor bring a lot of old curtain fabric, which she then nailed to the windowsill before the wall was built.

From the outside, it would just look like the curtains were drawn, and this disguise would not be noticeable even with binoculars.

In the afternoon, the project manager came to the site to measure the dimensions, and Wang Feifei confirmed some construction details with him.

She had a little scheme in mind: in addition to the three floors she had already bought, she secretly included the 25th floor below in her purchase.

Staying at home for extended periods results in a massive amount of household waste, so having a convenient yet discreet space to store it would be ideal.

She decided to also connect the 25th floor below to the elevator and include it in her safe house area.

Since she didn't own the 25th floor, Wang Feifei decided not to make any changes except for the elevator, as the extremely low temperature would prevent the garbage from rotting.

She had already made up her mind: she would temporarily borrow her neighbor's house, and if she could weather the natural disaster, she would then help her neighbor thoroughly clean up and restore it to its original state...

Now, the total cost, including the attic elevator and the five floors, plus the cost of the elevator and insulation materials, is nearly 500,000 yuan.

The project manager was all smiles throughout, and left humming a little tune after finishing his work.

It was already completely dark when Wang Feifei hurriedly finished her dinner, grabbed her pen and notebook, and headed to find a supermarket to browse.

She remembered the last time she went to the supermarket was on a Saturday night before the apocalypse. Chu Xiang leaned against the door and watched her drag her shopping cart out, mocking her for joining the old men and women in making a fuss.

He would never know how difficult it was for Wang Feifei to manage to secure those supplies...

At the government's request, the community supermarket provided a full warehouse of goods for citizens to stock up on Sunday, July 2nd at 8:00 AM. Wang Feifei was worried about too many people, so she set off the night before.

Her fears proved to be correct.

At midnight, long queues had already formed. Luckily, her spot was only 20 meters from the supermarket entrance, not too far.

By this time, the nighttime temperature had dropped to 3 degrees Celsius.

She was wearing a down jacket but still felt the biting cold. Fortunately, she could still sit in the shopping cart she was carrying, so she wasn't too tired for the first few hours.

At 5 a.m., it got even colder, and the temperature dropped rapidly, reaching -7 degrees Celsius, accompanied by a cold wind.

Unable to bear it any longer, she sent a message to Chu Xiang with her nearly dead phone, asking him to bring her a hot water bottle or a change of clothes.

He did not respond...

Some of the "teammates" around me were replaced by their families, while others received hot water and hot bottles from their families.

Wang Feifei had nothing; the air she exhaled was almost frozen.

Finally, after a long and arduous wait, the supermarket opened. In those few seconds that the doors opened, she was instantly pushed out of the line. A huge crowd had appeared at the entrance, and the people behind her surged forward like a flood...

She struggled to move along the wall, dragging her shopping cart, and was bumped several times by the crowd. The most painful time was when a box hit her in the stomach, and she squatted in the corner for a long time in pain.

When she finally reached the supermarket entrance, she discovered that there was almost nothing left inside; after searching all night, she hadn't bought anything.

She couldn't help but cry, and found a secluded corner next to the shelf to silently wipe away her tears...

With a creak, the hidden door in the side wall opened, and a boy walked out. He was startled when he saw Wang Feifei standing in the doorway, then looked at her shopping cart, and then at her.

She was a complete mess, with snot and tears streaming down her face, and her hair was all torn and disheveled...

He whispered, "Come with me."

After saying that, he opened the door again, and Wang Feifei followed him inside. He then immediately closed the door.

This turned out to be the supermarket's internal warehouse, where a lot of food and daily necessities were stored in an orderly manner.

The boy said, "You must be the girl who lives in Yujingcheng. I've seen you before, when you came to the supermarket with your boyfriend to buy snacks."

Wang Feifei nodded: "Can I buy these things?"

"Haha, of course you can. These are my dad's hoarded goods. It's okay for you to take a little, but don't tell anyone else."

Looking at his face, she was deeply moved and could only keep saying "uh-huh" repeatedly.

Because it was his personal property, she felt embarrassed to take too much. In the end, she chose a box of instant noodles, two bags of bread, three large bags of biscuits, a box of water, and a quilt.

From that moment on, Wang Feifei remembered him. He was the only person who lent a helping hand during her ordeal, the only light in this ugly and dark world...

At this moment, Wang Feifei suddenly wanted to go see him and even wanted to remind him to prepare in advance.

She was determined to do it!
