Chapter 76 Accident Compensation

The young man in the cotton hat stood in the middle of the road, his breath forming puffs of white mist in the cold air, his body trembling uncontrollably. He felt an unprecedented fear and tension, but he knew this might be his and Ah Jun's only chance.

After all, in such terrible weather and in this desolate wilderness, few people would easily stop for a stranger, so he could only use his body to block them.

After all, this is a society governed by the rule of law. Do ordinary people really dare to hit someone with their car? Whether they live or die, or even whether they rise to prominence from this moment on, depends on this incident!

As he was thinking this, the sled in his eyes grew larger and larger, and it looked like it was about to crash into him, but it showed no sign of stopping.

Driving through the deserted snowfield, Chen Yu was rather bored, his thoughts wandering far away. The blinding white snow was also making his eyes tired, and he could barely see the road. He couldn't see the young man in the cotton hat, half-submerged in the snow, much less notice him. By the time he spotted him, it was too late to brake. After all, the vehicle wasn't under tires, but skis; you couldn't just stop abruptly.

So he had no choice but to take emergency evasive action and quickly steer the wheel.

However, it was still a little short. Because he turned the steering wheel sharply, the whole car almost flipped over, and the skid on one side of the car just grazed the neck of the young man in the cotton hat.

A fine head rolled down, knocking the cotton hat off its head.

Chen Yu was stunned. He already knew what had happened. He had unintentionally faked someone's death, and in such a cruel way at that.

At that moment, Chen Yu could have easily stepped on the gas and driven away as if nothing had happened.

Although he didn't consider himself a particularly virtuous person, he wasn't a villain either, and there was absolutely no reason for him to run away after killing someone.

He parked the sled by the roadside and got off.

Seeing the decapitated body on the ground wearing only a thin coat, and then looking at the tattered cotton hat lying not far away, he frowned slightly and felt a pang of guilt. The person was already so pitiful, and he had cut off their head while driving the sled. What a terrible thing!

Chen Yu felt heavy-hearted. Just as he was about to shovel snow to bury the victim, A Jun rushed out, knelt on the snow, and cried out in grief, "Brother! My good brother!"

His tears mingled with his snot, freezing quickly. His trembling hands reached out to touch the lifeless head, yet hesitated, unable to bring themselves to actually touch it. It was as if his heart was filled with pain and despair, unable to accept this sudden turn of events.

Seeing Ah Jun's miserable appearance, Chen Yu raised an eyebrow and a hint of doubt flashed through his mind. The other party was calling out "good brother", but he himself was wearing a thick cotton-padded coat and did not come out to stop the car, but instead asked the "good brother" wearing thin clothes to come out.

"You bastard, you killed my brother! I'll fight you to the death!" Ah Jun said, reaching out to grab Chen Yu by the collar.

Chen Yu dodged A Jun's attack by sidestepping.

He then said calmly, "I am very sorry about this matter, and I am willing to compensate you."

Chen Yu had already seen through the other party's clumsy performance, but no matter what, he had killed someone in the end, and he still had to pay the compensation he was owed. At worst, he could just give the other party two boxes of instant noodles.

"Compensate? You killed someone? Is this something that can be solved with compensation? I must call the police and let them handle this!" Ah Jun roared angrily, showing no sign of compromise.

Call the police? Where can I call the police now? Can I even get through on the phone? Chen Yu knew the other party was trying to extort money, so he didn't bother to argue. He turned around and fumbled around on the sled for a while, then took out two boxes of instant noodles from his extradimensional space when the other party wasn't looking.

"Consider this my compensation to your 'brother'," Chen Yu said calmly to A Jun as he placed the two boxes of instant noodles on the ground.

Ah Jun stepped forward suspiciously, opened the package, and looked at the bags of plastic packaging. He was incredulous, his face filled with anger: "What the hell are you kidding me for?"

This time, his anger was genuine; he was truly astonished by Chen Yu's "generous gesture." He had initially thought Chen Yu was bringing him cash or something valuable, but he never expected that the other party would be carrying two boxes of instant noodles, in bagged form, and solemnly telling him that this was compensation for faking a death!

"You don't accept it? If you don't accept it, then I'll take them away." Chen Yu said calmly. He wouldn't tolerate this. He knew that soon, when everyone was out of food and supplies, a bag of instant noodles could be exchanged for a slave. These two boxes of instant noodles were worth far more than a life.

“I accept your damn it.” As he spoke, Ah Jun pulled out a kitchen knife from his waist and slashed at Chen Yu.

Chen Yu reacted swiftly; the moment Ah Jun raised his knife, he kicked him in the chest.

Ah Jun was immediately sent flying backward, crashing heavily into the snow and creating a large crater. Coincidentally, the spot where he landed was the very place where he and the young man in the cotton hat had buried the person. Half of a bloodstained face was smashed out by him, exposed on the snow, and the terrified eyes seemed to still be telling of the despair before death, staring straight at Ah Jun.

Ah Jun was terrified by this sudden turn of events. He struggled to get up, but the sharp pain in his chest prevented him from moving.

As he struggled and thrashed about, he dug the snow pit even deeper, and you could see that the body inside had been completely stripped naked.

Seeing this, Chen Yu seemed to understand something. He shook his head with a wry smile, then took out a military shovel from the sled and, under A Jun's horrified gaze, hit him on the head with the shovel.

Chen Yu shoveled down, not knowing whether the other party was dead or alive, and immediately began shoveling snow to fill the hole.

He quickly filled in the snow pits on the ground, loaded the instant noodles he originally intended to use as compensation for the deaths onto the vehicle, and then started the sled and drove away.

This trivial matter delayed him for nearly half an hour, which made him quite annoyed.

It's almost 3 p.m. now, we need to hurry.

During the rest of the journey, Chen Yu sped along, only stopping at a few gas stations to briefly fill his alternate dimension. He didn't stop for anything else, showing no interest in small or medium-sized supermarkets or similar establishments.

Two hours later, rows of tall warehouses came into view before Chen Yu.

Despite the snow being more than a meter deep, the warehouses standing on the snow-covered ground still looked majestic and spectacular.

This is the grain depot of Zhongyang City, a place specifically used to store emergency food supplies for the city.
