After dealing with the last thug in the building, Chen Yu and Lin Lele climbed out of a third-floor apartment window and headed towards where the sleds were parked.
As soon as he turned the corner, he saw three suspicious men pointing and gesturing at his sled.
They were wearing thick cotton-padded coats that they had sewn themselves, and each of them was holding some tools, looking as if they were preparing to attack the sled.
Upon seeing this, Chen Yu revealed a playful smile. He had just gone on a killing spree, and now someone dared to set their sights on him again. Wasn't this like shining a flashlight in a latrine, courting death?
However, Chen Yu did not immediately stop them, nor did he intend to stop them. Instead, he retreated behind the corner, concealed himself, and quietly watched their "performance".
Seeing this, Lin Lele followed suit and tiptoed back behind Chen Yu. She was also curious whether Chen Yu's sled's anti-theft function was strong enough to stop the greedy behavior of these thieves.
Chen Yu and Lin Lele quietly observed the three men's every move. They noticed that the men's movements seemed somewhat clumsy, clearly indicating a lack of professionalism.
One of them was holding an iron bar, seemingly trying to pry open the car door, while the other was holding a screwdriver, preparing to disassemble some parts of the sled.
The third person stood to the side, glancing upstairs every now and then, as if on guard against something.
They seemed confident that they could easily handle the sled.
This sled is based on the M-Hunter, a super luxury vehicle equipped with an advanced anti-theft system.
Although electronic anti-theft systems are now practically useless due to the extremely cold external environment.
However, this car was a custom-made model by Chen Yu, with the entire body and windows replaced with bulletproof materials.
Without the car key, the car is practically a lump of metal; even professional thieves couldn't easily cause it any damage, let alone these unprofessional petty thieves.
The three men worked for a long time, but they couldn't even pry open the car door, let alone disassemble any parts.
"Old Li, Old Wu, maybe we should just forget about it. It's too cold outside. I feel like I'm going to freeze to death," the man looking up at the building said, shivering.
"You're the one who talks too much nonsense!" Old Li, the man wielding an iron bar, glared at the man peering out as he tried to pry open the car door. "Shut the fuck up! Keep an eye on what's going on upstairs!"
Another man surnamed Wu, who was holding a screwdriver, also stopped what he was doing. He rubbed his hands, which were red from the cold, and looked at Lao Zhao with a hint of dissatisfaction in his voice: "Lao Li, something's really wrong with this car. We might not be able to handle it. Lao Zheng is right. If this continues, we'll freeze to death before we even get the car."
"Damn it, you two good-for-nothings!" Old Li cursed angrily. "You can't even stand being outside for a little while? Have you ever thought about what will happen if we run out of food? Without a means of transportation, we'll just be sitting here and eating our meager reserves!"
Upon hearing this, the two remained silent.
"Also, you all know about the group of perverts in this building. They are a group of ruthless killers. Although they are afraid to go out easily because of the extreme cold weather, what if they run out of supplies one day? What if this sled falls into their hands?" Old Li said in a deep voice.
Old Wu and Old Zheng looked at each other in dismay. Old Li's words struck them like a heavy hammer blow.
The two men shuddered at the thought of the agonizing screams that had been emanating from the building over the past few days.
"For the sake of your wives and children, you must get your hands on this sled!" Old Li encouraged the two of them again.
Old Wu and Old Zheng exchanged a glance and then nodded, knowing that Old Li was right.
In this apocalyptic world, everyone is struggling to survive, and a reliable means of transportation is undoubtedly their greatest asset.
"Okay, let's try again." Old Wu took a deep breath and picked up the screwdriver again.
Old Zheng also rallied his spirits and refocused his attention on the building in front of him, keeping a close eye on what was happening inside.
Because he was so cold, he could only keep stamping his feet to try to keep his body warm.
Seeing this, Old Li nodded in satisfaction, then aimed the iron bar at the car door again, took a deep breath, and used all his strength to pry it down.
Seeing that the three of them had made no progress after so long, Lin Lele felt slightly disappointed. He glanced at Chen Yu and whispered, "Sir, they don't seem like bad people. They're just doing this because they have no other choice but to do it for their families. Why don't we give them a chance?"
Chen Yu was speechless upon hearing this. The importance of the sled in this extremely cold post-apocalyptic world was self-evident. They had already stolen their sled, yet Lin Lele still thought that the other party was not a bad person.
Seeing Lin Lele's innocent expression, Chen Yu sighed inwardly and shook his head helplessly. He decided to teach Lin Lele a lesson. So he handed the assault rifle in his hand to Lin Lele: "You stay here and watch carefully."
Lin Lele looked puzzled, but she still took the assault rifle from Chen Yu and obediently stayed where she was.
Seeing Chen Yu walk towards the three men with his hands empty, she became curious, wondering what he was planning to do.
The footsteps were exceptionally clear on the silent snow. Upon hearing the sound, the three men immediately stopped what they were doing and turned around nervously.
"What are you doing?" Chen Yu's voice was calm and powerful, and his gaze swept coldly over the three of them.
When Lao Li, Lao Wu, and Lao Zheng saw Chen Yu appear, they were startled, realizing they had been caught red-handed. They exchanged glances, all seeing the panic in each other's eyes.
"You...you actually made it out of this building alive!" Old Zheng's voice trembled, clearly quite frightened by the appearance of Chen Yu and Lin Lele.
Old Wu was also surprised, but he quickly forced himself to calm down. He took a deep breath, trying to quell his fear. He knew that he had no choice but to face it head-on.
"We were just... just passing by and saw your car parked here. We thought no one was there, so..." Old Wu stammered as he explained, but clearly this clumsy excuse was useless in front of Chen Yu.
"Hehe, is that so?" Chen Yu revealed a mocking smile.
A fierce glint flashed in Old Li's eyes, and he suddenly swung the iron rod in his hand at Chen Yu.
