Early the next morning—
"Thump."
Rong Shi opened his eyes for the nth time and saw Gu Chu's foot on his leg again. Rong Shi was about to push it away again, but as soon as he touched Gu Chu's leg, Gu Chu suddenly opened his eyes.
What are you doing!
She regretted it as soon as she finished speaking. Seeing her leg restlessly resting on Rong Shi's abdomen, she quickly pulled her leg back, but inadvertently caught a glimpse of that bulging mass. She belatedly realized what was happening and was so embarrassed that she could dig a park out of her toes.
Rong Shi didn't say anything. He had been feeling unwell and had some insomnia last night because there was someone else beside him. As a result, Gu Chu fell asleep and subconsciously put her feet on him, repeating this on and off more than ten times, which completely drove away his sleep. So he didn't sleep at all last night.
Fortunately, he was already used to staying up late at work, and during drills he could stay awake all night.
But since he had stayed up all night, he got up, grabbed his clothes, and went into the bathroom to make himself more alert.
When he came out again an hour later, his hair was wet, clearly he had taken a shower.
Gu Chu looked at him with suspicion, thinking to herself: Washing his hair and taking a shower so early in the morning on such a cold day, does he have OCD?
Rong Shi quickly dried his hair with a hairdryer, then put it down and said to Gu Chu, "I'll wait for you outside."
After saying that, he walked out.
Gu Chu got up, changed her clothes, and went out of the room. Sure enough, she saw Rong Shi standing at the door waiting for her.
“Let’s go!” Rong Shi said.
Gu Chu walked alongside him, when suddenly she asked, "How much longer are we going to stay here?"
Rong Shi said, "I'll leave after I finish breakfast."
The two fell silent again. As they approached the main courtyard, Gu Chu asked again, "Why didn't you accept the money I offered you?"
Rong Shi glanced at her and said succinctly, "I didn't buy those things."
Gu Chu: "..."
What's the meaning?
Does he want me to transfer the money to his mother?
He did it on purpose!
I'll just not take it. Anyway, I still have his card. I can just transfer the money to his card and pay him back together later.
With that thought in mind, Gu Chu didn't bring up the matter again.
Rong Shi and Gu Chu arrived at the main courtyard. Rong's father had left after dinner the day before due to some business. Rong's mother and old man Rong were chatting in the main hall at the moment.
"Grandpa, Mom, good morning!" Rong Shi looked at the two of them.
When Rong's mother saw Rong Shi's eyes, she was clearly stunned for a moment.
Gu Chu smiled at Grandpa Rong and said, "Good morning, Grandpa!" Then, she looked at Grandma Rong and said, "Good morning, Mom!"
Grandpa Rong looked at Gu Chu with a bright smile: "Good morning, Chu Chu, why are you up so early? Why don't you sleep a little longer?"
After saying that, he turned to Rong Shi and said, "Xi Zhi, why did you make Chu Chu get up so early with you? Girls should sleep more."
Rong's mother chimed in, "That's right, why are you getting up so early? You're newlyweds, it's fine to get up a little later."
"I'm used to it."
Rong Shi pulled Gu Chu's hand and sat her down beside him.
Gu Chu smiled and explained, "It's getting late, we still have to leave in a bit."
Madam Rong was taken aback: "Let's go?"
Rong's mother looked at her son: "Where are you going?"
Rong Shi said, "I have some work-related matters to attend to."
Rong's mother said to Gu Chu, "Chu Chu, if you don't have anything else to do, stay a few more days. It's not easy for you to come all this way. I haven't even taken you to see the famous tourist attractions in T City yet!"
Gu Chu politely declined: "Thank you, Mom, but I won't go this time. I'll go with you next time when I have time."
Seeing that Gu Chu refused, Rong's mother did not insist anymore, thinking that it would not be good to separate her son and daughter-in-law so soon after their marriage.
"In that case, I won't force you to stay. Let's go have breakfast first!" Rong's mother said, getting up and taking Gu Chu's hand to lead her to the dining room.
After breakfast, Rong's mother made an excuse and left.
Just as Rong Shi and Gu Chu were about to leave, Rong's mother appeared again, holding two thick, large red envelopes in her hands.
"Chu Chu, please accept this." Rong's mother handed the red envelope to Gu Chu.
Gu Chu quickly waved her hand and shook her head, refusing: "No need, Mom, I don't need the money."
"Please accept this as a blessing from us." Rong's mother stuffed the red envelope into Gu Chu's bag.
Just as Gu Chu was about to cover her bag, she heard Rong Shi speak:
"Please accept it; it's a local custom."
Gu Chu was taken aback for a moment, then smiled and accepted the gift: "Thank you, Mom!"
"Chu Chu, this is from your grandfather, you have to accept it." Grandpa Rong handed a thin red envelope to Gu Chu.
Seeing that the red envelope was so thin, Gu Chu felt no guilt and accepted it without hesitation: "Thank you, Grandpa!"
Just then, Rong Shi's phone rang. Seeing that it was his father calling, he picked up the phone and went to the side to answer it.
"dad!"
Rong's father's deep voice rang out: "Xizhi, I heard you're leaving with Chuchu today. Why not stay a few more days? Didn't the team approve your wedding leave?"
Rong Shi said, "It's approved. I have some things to do and can't stay here."
Hearing that Rong Shi had been granted his wedding leave, Rong's father was relieved and said, "Alright, then take Chu Chu to your villa for a few days. However, you are still young, and there's no need to rush into having a child. Your health is important, so don't be too greedy. It's okay for you to stay up late, but Chu Chu is a girl, and she's newly married, so be mindful of your limits."
When Rong's father first started speaking, Rong Shi couldn't understand a little, but when he heard the last sentence, Rong Shi immediately understood.
His gaze shifted, and he subconsciously looked at Rong's mother not far away, who happened to be looking over as well.
When she met her son's questioning gaze, Rong's mother immediately felt guilty and quickly turned her head away as if she hadn't seen anything.
"Okay, I understand." Rong Shi didn't explain further; acquiescence and obedience were enough for this kind of thing.
Rong Shi and Gu Chu went directly to the airport and boarded a plane back to City A in JX Province.
