Chapter 49 Misty Moon Forest: You Are the King's Queen
Giant silver water lilies grow in the lake, and a light mist wafts from their stamens, making everything on the lake surface look like a fairyland, shrouded in a hazy mist.
Airland stepped into the lake, his flowing robe slipping off his body and landing on the petals of the water lilies on the mirror stand. He immersed himself in the cool lake water, his scattered silver hair swaying gently with the ripples.
Pale green magic surged towards the water lily petals, and a memory pearl rose from the garment. A translucent figure appeared amidst the mist, leaving only an outline in the haze of the mirror-like water lily, with only its voice clearly audible.
That's good, at least it will reduce his discomfort when taking a shower.
The girl, whose face was obscured, appeared to be sitting. Her tone carried a hint of resentment as she said, "How did you come up with such a torturous method? Praising you thirty times without repeating yourself. Won't this memory pearl become a black mark on my history?"
Aerlan couldn't help but laugh. He could imagine Ancia's troubled look. Her eyebrows must have been furrowed, her expression helpless and distressed, and her mind and heart must have been filled with images of him, with no one else in sight.
He only needed to occupy her time for a few minutes at a time; whether the memory pearl contained thirty insults from Ancia or thirty perfunctory compliments about his appearance, he didn't care.
“Aierlan cares a lot about plants. Even ordinary flowers and grasses without magical value will be carefully tended to if he sees them.”
"Aierlan's temper isn't as bad as rumored. He's actually a reliable friend who's tough on the outside but soft on the inside. If you really need his help, he'll do his best to help you."
“Aierlan respects people’s privacy. The whispering vines in the botanical garden have listened to many secrets, and none of them have been leaked.”
...
Unexpectedly, Ancia earnestly recounted her view of Erlan, focusing only on the details of his life, regardless of his identity or appearance.
No, there is; it's in the last sentence of praise.
“The Emerald Realm, of Ellan (Ancient Elvish)…” Ancia paused. Beatrice’s notes didn’t mention the word “eyes,” so she had to use Common instead, “eyes (Common)…”
"Like jade, very beautiful (ancient Elven language)."
"Alright, you've finished praising me! Don't tell anyone about these things, or I'll pour boiling water on your Moon Tear Tree." Ancia breathed a sigh of relief, then warned him fiercely.
The memory pearls in the air began to fall slowly, and the images gradually faded away. Erlan brushed away the mist, wanting to see Ancia's face clearly before the figure completely disappeared.
I've wanted to see her since she first spoke.
"Thump—"
A figure descended from the sky, splashing a large spray of water onto Erlan's face in the calm lake.
"Glug glug pew pew pew..." Anxi struggled to swim to the surface, spitting out the lake water that had entered her mouth, wiping the water off her face, before she could see the scene in front of her clearly.
A misty lake, a silver-haired elf soaked to the bone, and a stunned, speechless Ellan.
Water droplets trickled down the delicate eyebrows and eyes of the misty moon elf, across the emerald necklace at her collarbone, along her well-defined body, and back into the clear lake. And further down…
"Where are you looking? You pervert!" Airland decisively covered Ancia's eyes with his hand and said through gritted teeth.
"Why are you scolding me the moment we meet? It's not like I wanted to see that," Ancia retorted.
A powerful golden magical force pierced through space and appeared in Ancia's ear.
"Ancia, are you alright?"
It was her mentor's telepathic magic. Ancia blinked nervously. The sound of the telepathic magic was too realistic, as if her mentor was nearby and had arrested her again... Wait, why "again"?
"Mentor, I'm...I'm alright! I'll come back as soon as the teleportation crystal is usable again!"
The eyelashes brushed against Erlan's palm, tickling her a little, and the temperature of her cheek under his palm was gradually rising.
Ancia ended the telepathic spell, closed her eyes, turned around, and coughed twice. "Um... Ellan, you should put your clothes on first."
After losing sight, hearing becomes exceptionally acute; the soft fabrics rub against each other, the rushing water makes a sound, and then it gradually fades into the distance.
"Alright," Erlan's voice came from the shore.
Ancia opened her eyes and slowly swam towards the shore. Fortunately, the protagonist of this game wasn't designed to dissolve in water. The moment she reached the shore, her clothes automatically dried and became clean.
"How did you get to the Misty Moon Forest?" Ellan asked.
Is it really the Misty Moon Forest?
When Anciya saw the deep, continuous ancient forest, she knew something was wrong. The Misty Moon Forest was on the edge of the continent, separated from the Eternal City by half a continent.
“I was etching the magic circle in Beatrice’s notebook, and I didn’t expect that magic circle to be a directional teleportation circle for the Misty Moon Forest. I only came into contact with a little bit of magic, and here I am.” She held up a slit with her fingers, smaller than a fingernail. “Aillan, I just used my teleportation crystal today, and it won’t be usable again for another month. How long will it take to get directly from the Misty Moon Forest back to the Eternal Capital?”
Airland gave a cool laugh. "One month."
Ansia almost screamed, "A month??"
Airland added, "I get one month, you get two months."
Ancia protested, "Why should I have to use it for two months?"
“From the Eternal City to Silverbirch City, it takes half a month by carriage, five days by flying mount across the southern kingdoms, and ten days by flying with the Wings of Wood to the Misty Moon Forest.” Ellan looked behind Ancia. “You probably haven’t learned the Wings of Light yet, have you? With your agility, it would take you a month to walk from here to the southern kingdoms.”
Instead of making her walk for a month, it would be better to just kill her. Once she gets back, she must find her mentor to learn the Wings of Light!
"...Help me find a place to stay. I'll use the teleportation crystal when the time comes, thank you," Ancia said sensibly.
The Misty Moon Forest is tranquil and mysterious, filled with peaceful life energy. The air is fresh, the vegetation is lush, and as far as the eye can see, there are towering ancient trees that block out the sun.
Ancia followed Erlan for a long time before spotting any elves. The elves showed wariness and rejection upon first seeing her, but they lowered their guard only when they saw Erlan beside her.
A female elf wearing a flower wreath walked briskly over. When she saw Ancia, she acted indifferently, becoming the most peaceful of all the elves.
Ellan spoke to her in hushed tones, and Ancia strained to hear them, managing to catch a few familiar Elvish words amidst their rapid speech. The female elf looked at her and nodded.
“Ancia, this is Elder Vivian. If you can’t find me, you can look for her,” Airan said to Ancia.
"Good day, Elder Vivian (in the ancient Elven language)," Ancia smiled at her in a friendly manner.
Vivian's expression turned somewhat strange for a moment, and she reflexively looked at Erlan, her expression becoming subtle.
"That's how you taught me to greet people. Don't you elves use 'Good morning'?" Ancia looked at Ellan in confusion.
Aierlan coughed lightly, feigning nonchalance under Vivian's sharp gaze. "It's just that modern elves don't learn Ancient Elvish anymore, so they're not used to it. Vivian speaks Common, so you can communicate with her in Common."
Ancia breathed a sigh of relief. Her Ancient Elven language was not very fluent yet. "That's great. Please find me a secluded place to stay so I can continue studying the magic circles in Beatrice's Elven Notebook. There might be a magic explosion while I'm studying, and I'll compensate for it if it happens. I just need to make sure the location doesn't affect anyone else."
Erlan: "Find what she asks for, and give her a Wood Wing Scroll from the tribe. If Beatrice's Magic Notebook is still in the warehouse, make a copy for her."
Vivian scrutinized Airlan from head to toe, and only after confirming that he was serious did she reply with a half-smile, "Okay."
Ancia and Erlan walked behind, and she couldn't help but ask in a low voice, "Erlan, is it really okay to eat and take things like this?"
Vivian's ears twitched, and a cheerful voice came from ahead, "Of course you can. The scroll of the Wings of Wood is nothing special. As for the copy of the magic notebook of the previous Elf King, it's not suitable for other humans, but it's no problem for you."
A faint blush appeared on Airan's face. He narrowed his eyes and lowered his voice, "Vivian."
Ancia was somewhat surprised. From Beatrice's memory pearl, she couldn't see any airs of an Elf King at all; she was just a grumpy mentor who was constantly annoyed by her apprentices. "Beatrice was the Elf King before her?"
Ellan: "The Misty Moon Forest is far from human kingdoms. The change of the Elf royal family will not be announced to humans. When traveling, the Elf King will not deliberately reveal his identity."
Ancia's accommodation was arranged in a separate treehouse far from the elves' dwellings. Not long after, Vivian brought over the Scroll of Wood Wings and a copy of Beatrice's Notebook.
Vivian: "I will come over once a day. You can make any requests you may have. The very center of the forest is a forbidden area for the elves, so please do not trespass. Have a pleasant life."
Ancia agreed. The forbidden area that Vivian mentioned was the place where the Tree of Life grew. From this place, one could see huge trees that were several times taller than other ancient trees, with their canopies reaching into the clouds. However, they were shrouded in a dull, dark green halo, which made the viewer feel inexplicably oppressed.
She sighed, stopped looking at the unsettling Tree of Life, and picked up the scroll of the Wings of Wood.
The scroll was inscribed with the magic circuit of the Wings of Wood. In the Misty Moon Forest, where the wood element was abundant, Ancia easily condensed pure wood magic and constructed the magic circuit according to the scroll.
[Congratulations to the player for learning the skill Wood Wings.]
News of a human's arrival in the Misty Moon Forest attracted several young elves who were still very curious and not as aloof as adults. They ran to Ancia's treehouse and observed her with great interest.
They hid behind a tree, speaking quickly and softly, so Ancia could only barely hear parts of their discussion:
"Human...ears...black..."
A young elf bravely approached, "You...bring...the forest?"
Ancia guessed that the elf cub was asking her who had brought her into the Misty Moon Forest, and after a moment's hesitation, she replied, "Airan (ancient elven language)."
The elf cubs gasped in unison and began to chatter amongst themselves, their words too fast to be heard.
Vivian happened to arrive, and when she saw the elf cubs, she shook her head helplessly. "Did they disturb you?"
The elf cub tugged at Vivian's sleeve and whispered, "Is she [the one's] ...
Vivian nodded, and the elf cub covered its mouth in surprise and ran away with its companions. They had appeared suddenly, but then disappeared on their own.
Ancia didn't understand their Elvish language and asked Vivian in confusion, "What are they saying?"
Vivian smiled. "They say you are the king's queen."
