Chapter 75 An Extremely Selfish Man
Back to the river again.
Mu Yuan picked up the fishing rod and was about to put the bait on Guangguang. After all, the fish hook was sharp and it was not suitable for children to touch it.
But she had just lifted the hook.
Huo Min's calm voice came from above his head: "I'll do it."
Mu Yuan didn't even raise her head: "No need."
She lowered her head to get the fish lizard, but Huo Min pushed the fish lizard box open with his foot.
Mu Yuan finally looked up and glared at him: "What are you doing?"
Under the awning, everything was dimmed, and his already dark pupils became even darker. "Are you angry?"
Mu Yuan couldn't help but say: "Between you and me, I should have more control over nature, right?"
Huo Min remained noncommittal: "So?"
Mu Yuan frowned, not liking his behavior of treating her like a flower in a delicate room: "So you don't have to worry about me so much."
She had just finished speaking.
Huo Min half-knelt down and looked at her at eye level.
His phoenix eyes were narrow and sharp, but his lowered eyelashes automatically concealed the sharpness, leaving only a gentleness as if surrendering.
He spoke in a low voice, "This place is remote, and the nearest hospital is 5 kilometers away. Yuanyuan, I'm really worried. I'm worried about myself. I'm not absolutely sure I can get you the fastest treatment in the event of an accident, so I won't make any decisions without confidence."
The river surface welcomed the mountain wind, and ripples were created on the calm water surface. Then, the ripples flowed into the blood beneath her thin skin, surging.
She moved her lips, wanting to speak, but was unable to extricate herself from his watery black eyes, the deep affection in them almost making her sink.
"Auntie, is the bait ready?"
The childish cry from Guangguang behind him startled Mu Yuan out of his despair.
"Right away..." She wanted to get up, but her feet were numb from squatting, and she stood up too quickly, so she lost her balance and fell into his arms.
She pushed Huo Min to the ground, her forehead hitting his cheekbone, and heard him groan.
Mu Yuan felt dizzy from the sudden attack. As soon as she regained her composure, she immediately raised her eyes and said, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry."
Huo Min frowned slightly, and while hugging her, he asked, "Are you hurt?"
This awkward posture made Mu Yuan blush, and she mumbled, "No..."
She struggled to get up, but her legs were numb and swollen as if countless ants were crawling on them, and she had no strength at all.
Huo Min's eyes darkened, and he stretched his long arms across her legs and shoulders, picking her up.
Her body suddenly lost weight, and Mu Yuan instinctively hugged his neck tightly.
Her heart trembled, her fingertips clenched, and her tone was nervous: "What are you going to do?"
"Aren't your legs numb?" Huo Min's dark eyes, which were so close to her, noticed her shy reaction and put her on the chair.
As soon as his butt touched the chair, Mu Yuan hurriedly let go of the hand that was around his neck.
Her face was tilted up, her almond-shaped eyes filled with helplessness.
Huo Min held her in a high position and said calmly, "Sit down, I'll teach you."
After saying that, he glanced at Guangguang who was standing beside him, ready to strike: "Guangguang, come here."
Guangguang immediately ran over happily.
Huo Min half-knelt down, put his arm around Guangguang, and guided him step by step to put on the bait.
Mu Yuan wanted to remind him that the fishhook was sharp.
But before he could finish his words, they were already dressed.
She swallowed the advice that was about to come to her lips.
Guangguang was small and weak, so Huo Min used his hand to cast the fishing rod.
He patiently explained each step and pointed to the buoy: "If the buoy is pulled to the surface of the water, it proves that a fish has taken the bait."
Guangguang couldn't wait to answer: "Then I will pull up the fishing rod immediately!"
Huo Min shook his head slightly: "No, the fish just took the bait, but it may have bitten shallowly. If you pull the rod too quickly, the fish will get off the hook and swim away, so you have to..."
The surface of the river was like a big mirror, reflecting the warm afternoon sun onto their faces. The light warm tones softened the atmosphere. The interaction between the two, big and small, created a warm scene.
Mu Yuan looked at it, and the corners of his mouth couldn't help but rise.
"Guangguang likes him very much." Zhao Xitao's voice came from behind.
Mu Yuan quickly turned around and saw who it was. He didn't know what to say, so he could only respond with a polite smile: "Hello."
Zhao Xitao noticed her hesitation after she called out, and took the initiative with a smile: "You can call me Xitao like Ah Min."
Mu Yuan curved her eyes and said, "Okay."
He sat down on the canvas chair next to her, looking at Guangguang's excited and happy little back, with kindness in his eyes.
"Can you imagine that every time Guangguang was beaten to tears by me, he would shout that he would go find his uncle to seek justice for him?"
Mu Yuan imagined the scene and couldn't help laughing: "Guangguang is a very cute kid."
Zhao Xitao: "She's really cute, and really naughty. When she was in kindergarten, she would often provoke her classmates and get her parents called."
Mu Yuan chuckled: "Little boy, it's normal to be naughty."
"At the time, his mother was often busy abroad, and I was also experiencing a period of career growth. My appointments were almost fully booked every hour. Guess who took my place at the kindergarten and got criticized?"
Mu Yuan's almond-shaped eyes froze for a moment, and she glanced sideways at Huo Min, who had his back to them: "Huo Min?"
Zhao Xitao observed her changing expression and laughed, "Surprising, right? He's a complete contradiction. He appears to be incredibly cold, but he's actually very soft-hearted."
Mu Yuan thought about the past, how he always generously helped her despite his cold face, and she softly agreed, "Yeah."
"When he first told me he was married, I was shocked."
Mu Yuan retracted her gaze from Huo Min and asked, "Is his marriage... a surprise?"
Zhao Xitao didn't know whether to laugh or cry: "Of course it's a surprise. I thought he would never get married in his life. After all, his father..."
He paused again, glanced at Mu Yuan inexplicably, and changed the subject: "Anyway, the fact that he got married did shock me."
Mu Yuan caught on to his hesitation and, thinking of the oddity she had found in the photo album, she probed, "My father-in-law had passed away when I got married. I've never met him and don't know what he was like. But I noticed there aren't any photos of him in the house. Did something happen to the family before?"
Zhao Xitao's smile faded a little, and he said seriously, "Didn't Ah Min tell you?"
Mu Yuan said softly: "Talking about his father? Never."
Zhao Xitao pursed his lips, his thoughts unconsciously going back to the past: "My uncle was a very successful man in his career, but a very unsuccessful man in his family life."
This sharp comment surprised Mu Yuan.
"He's gone, but his legacy remains. When he was alive, he was selfish, philandering, and mean. He kept mistresses outside and would abuse my aunt when he came home drunk. My aunt wanted to divorce many times, but she endured it again and again for Ah Min. Later, my mother discovered that her body was covered with wounds, and we realized the inhumane treatment my aunt had been subjected to. When my grandfather learned about this, he was so angry that he came to my uncle's house and demanded a divorce. But my uncle was worried about the impact on the company's stock price and reputation, so he refused to agree. The two families were deadlocked for a long time, and my uncle even used tricks to coerce the development of the Zhao family. My aunt, considering the overall situation, endured it."
Mu Yuan frowned upon hearing this and asked, "What about Huo Min?"
He dared to treat his own wife like this, not to mention his young and helpless son.
Her heart subconsciously tightened.
