After Zhu Changge finished administering acupuncture to Master Gu, Gu Yiqiao left the secret room to ask servants to help carry Master Gu out and send him back to the East Courtyard, where Master Gu lived.
However, the servants of the Gu family seemed to deliberately ignore him. No one came after calling for a long time. In the end, they had to ask Jingjing and Xiaoxiao to help carry Master Gu out of the secret room.
After settling Master Gu in, Gu Yiqiao summoned all the servants of the Gu family to the west courtyard. There were more than two hundred servants in the entire Gu family, but they were all Wu Lianlian's lackeys, and were of no benefit to the Gu family. He wanted to send them all away.
In particular, all the servants, maids, servants, and gatekeepers in Wu Lianlian's courtyard, who usually acted arrogantly because of their master's power, were sold off. Those who knew martial arts ran away as soon as they learned that Wu Lianlian had left the Gu residence, and they did so quite quickly.
After dismissing the unusable servants, only seventeen useful people remained. Some of these seventeen people were old servants from the original wife's courtyard, while others were from Gu Yiqiao's courtyard.
After the original wife and Gu Yiqiao got into trouble, these loyal servants were assigned to do the hardest and dirtiest work in the mansion and received the least monthly wages. However, they did not betray their original master. Even though they were harassed by other servants every day and their food rations were often cut, they did not turn to Wu Lianlian.
"Young master, young master, I have always been loyal to you and Madam. I only turned to Aunt Wu because I had no other choice. If I disobey, Aunt Wu will have my parents, brothers, sisters-in-law and nephews killed. Please, young master, don't sell me out. I promise I will never betray you again." A man in his early twenties with a long face knelt in front of Gu Yiqiao, crying pitifully.
Gu Yiqiao said coldly and with disgust, "I looked down on you when you worked in Mother's courtyard. You were dishonest and liked to take advantage of the maids. I've wanted to get rid of you for a long time, but Mother is too kind and won't punish you, so she's kept you around."
"As expected, the moment my mother got into trouble, you immediately switched your allegiance to that slut Wu Lianlian. I even suspect that my mother's death was related to you."
Gu Yiqiao's suspicions were not without reason. The other loyal servants had been tortured to the point of being emaciated, their clothes were tattered and dirty, and they lived in woodsheds. But this horse-faced man had his own single room, had been promoted to steward, and wore clothes made of the finest materials.
In just a few months, his face has become much rounder. I heard that he built a new house in the countryside and bought a house in the town. If Wu Lianlian hadn't given him money, where would he have gotten the money?
To get so much money, he must have done something shady for Wu Lianlian. But if he really poisoned his mother, he should have been silenced. Wu Lianlian is still keeping him alive, so this guy seems to have some tricks up his sleeve.
Unfortunately, he wasn't Wu Lianlian's confidant, and she didn't take him with her when she fled for her life.
"Young master, you can't say things like that! I'm innocent! I don't know anything..." The horse-faced man was still struggling.
"There's no need to say anything more. I was originally going to sell you out, but your sudden kneeling reminded me. Men, tie him up. I'll interrogate him properly when I have time." Gu Yiqiao straightened his back, his expression gloomy.
After all the servants were dismissed, the once grand Gu mansion instantly became deserted, exuding an atmosphere of decline and loneliness.
Except for the small courtyards of a few concubines, which remained largely untouched, most of the other servants were dismissed or sold off.
"A perfectly good family, now dead, injured, almost destroyed. It's all because of that bitch Wu Lianlian. I, Gu Yiqiao, swear that I will make Wu Lianlian pay for my mother's life." Gu Yiqiao had just finished making his vow when a servant came to report.
Master Gu's two personal bodyguards have returned. They were both away when the incident occurred at the Gu residence these past two days. If these two bodyguards had been there, Master Gu wouldn't have been harmed. I wonder what they were doing.
"Uncles, how did you get so badly injured? What happened?" Gu Yiqiao was surprised that the two experts were seriously injured. These two were top-notch fighters, and it was unbelievable that someone could injure them like this.
"Pfft," Zheng Shi exhaled before speaking, clutching his chest as he said with difficulty, "The night before last, several men in black sneaked into the mansion, intending to harm the master. Zhang Shan and I fought them off."
The other party was cunning; they lured us out of the Gu residence. We chased them for a while before realizing something was wrong. Just as we were about to turn back, we discovered they had set a trap. There were too many of them, and we were forced to retreat into a grove of trees. Unexpectedly, many of their accomplices were lying in ambush there.
In short, Zheng Shi and Zhang Shan were trapped for two days and two nights before they finally broke through the forest. The two dared not stop along the way and risked their lives to escape back to the Gu residence. When they arrived at the gate of the Gu residence, Zhang Shan could no longer hold on and fainted.
After Zheng Shi finished speaking, he exhaled and then collapsed to the ground.
"Uncle Zheng, how are you?" Gu Yiqiao called out a few times, and seeing that Zheng Shi was completely unconscious, he quickly called for servants to carry him back to his room.
There were too few people, and all the servants had gone to Zhangshan's place. Some were cooking in the kitchen, and others were taking care of Master Gu in the east courtyard. So, no one came to help Gu Yiqiao even after he had been calling for a long time.
Fortunately, Fu Ge and his friends came over. They lived in the west courtyard, and since Gu Yiqiao had been making a fuss for a long time, they couldn't pretend they hadn't heard, so they came over to see if there was anything they could help with.
"Second Master is treating another person's wound and can't get away for the time being. Si Fu, come with me to fetch a doctor from outside," Zhou Erfu gestured.
“Alright, there are many injured people in the manor, we can’t always trouble Second Master, it would be more appropriate to invite a doctor back.” Zhou Sifu said and went out with Zhou Erfu.
With the help of his eldest and third brothers, Zhou Wufu quickly bandaged Zheng Shi's wound to prevent excessive bleeding.
Gu Yiqiao breathed a sigh of relief upon learning that Zheng Shi was out of danger. Just as he was about to go check on Zhang Shan, a servant came running in, stumbling and crawling.
