When the chief eunuch saw the emperor get up and say he wanted to set up Huayun Palace, he breathed a sigh of relief. It was cold and late, and the emperor should have rested long ago. If it weren't for the prince consort causing trouble, the emperor would have been busy for who knows how long.
Once his health had improved slightly, the emperor resumed his reckless behavior, focusing solely on state affairs and neglecting his health. He truly had forgotten the pain once the wound had healed.
The chief eunuch wanted to persuade him, but he couldn't, and all his efforts were in vain.
When they arrived at Huayun Palace, the Empress was already asleep. She was momentarily stunned when she heard that the Emperor had arrived, and quickly asked her personal maid to help her up.
"Why did His Majesty come so suddenly? He didn't even send someone to inform me beforehand. I was about to fall asleep," the Empress muttered to herself.
Snow was falling outside. The emperor came in with a chill in his body, took off his cloak and had a palace maid hang it up for him. How can she always let her husband into the palace so late at night? Doesn't she understand the principle of strict separation between boys and girls at the age of seven?"
The Empress instructed the palace servants to prepare hot water so that the Emperor could bathe and warm himself before sleeping. After arranging the servants, she walked over and sat down next to the Emperor.
"Your Majesty, you yourself said that he is the imperial son-in-law. Since you are worried, why not simply have the Imperial Observatory choose a date and arrange Long'er's marriage?" Once they are married, the two little ones will no longer need to meet secretly like this.
"Getting married means leaving the palace to establish your own residence. Are you willing to do that?" the emperor asked instead of answering.
The Empress was indeed reluctant, but no matter how reluctant she was, she couldn't stop her daughter from getting married. She would be sixteen next year. She wasn't in a hurry, but her daughter and her fiancé couldn't wait.
Rather than letting them meet secretly every night, it would be better for them to get married and be together openly and legitimately.
"Let me consider this for a few days." The emperor didn't want Zhu Lin to become too smug; delaying the matter for a few more days would be beneficial.
