Master Song repeatedly assured that he would not send anyone into the mountains without permission again, and that if he really wanted to send someone into the mountains, he would inform the village chief first so that the village chief would be prepared.
Tie Qingfeng overheard the entire conversation from inside the room. After the village chief and the others left, he came out and looked at Master Song, saying, "Uncle Song, are you really going to build a high wall at the end of the village?"
"That was just a temporary measure. I suppose the village chief knew it wouldn't work. Yegou Village has an uneven terrain, with slopes and gullies everywhere. It's not easy to encircle the entire defense line. Since we can't encircle the entire defense line, there's not much point in building a high wall."
Tie Qingfeng pursed his lips. "I wrote to Father asking him to send more experts over, so we won't have to worry about attacks from wild beasts, or at least we won't lure them to the outer perimeter."
“Sending people over will take time. I think it’s better if I find some skilled practitioners here to travel with us, so as not to waste time.” The expert said that Qingfeng’s nephew doesn’t have much time left and must find the medicinal ingredient within a year, otherwise it will be too late.
When Zhou Laoda and Zhao Guihua got home, they dragged Zhou Erfu and Zhou Sifu over and asked them if they had said anything to Xingxing, otherwise why would Xingxing suddenly want to learn kung fu?
"I'm innocent! My fourth brother and I just mentioned it to each other. We were very envious of her kung fu skills and hoped that we could find a master to learn some kung fu. We just whispered to ourselves and didn't say anything to Xingxing, much less encourage her to go to the Song family to seek a master to learn kung fu."
Zhou Erfu rubbed his ears, feeling utterly unable to explain himself. He needed to change his parents' habit of blaming him without even asking what happened. Xingxing was young but had a very strong sense of reason; did they really think she didn't have her own ideas?
“Impossible. Xingxing is so cute and well-behaved, why would she want to learn martial arts? You and Sifu must have tricked her again.” Zhao Guihua said firmly, convinced that her daughter would not have run to the Song residence on her own and asked to become a martial arts apprentice.
Well, Xingxing didn't want to learn martial arts for no reason. She had her reasons. Of course, she didn't have the idea of learning kung fu before. It was only after listening to her second and fourth brothers that she had the idea.
"Dad, Mom, it's Xingxing's own idea to learn, it's not Second Brother's or Fourth Brother's fault," Xingxing explained with a troubled frown. "I've been having nightmares lately. In my dreams, lots of bad guys are chasing me with knives. They want to kill me, and I run and run..."
Suddenly my feet stopped, and I couldn't run anymore. I tried to fly away, but no matter how I flailed my arms, I couldn't fly very high. Just then, the bad guys caught up and swung their knives at me. Every time I came to this point, I woke up in fright. Xingxing was scared. Hearing her second and fourth brothers say they wanted to learn kung fu, Xingxing wanted to learn too. With kung fu, no one could bully her anymore.
Huh? How come I've never heard Xingxing mention that she often has nightmares?
"But I've never seen you have nightmares when I sleep with you." It's Ruru who has nightmares every few days, I didn't expect Xingxing to have the same problem.
"I never used to have this problem, but lately I keep having dreams that bad guys want to kill me. I'm so small and can't run fast, why would someone want to kill me in my dreams? Xingxing is so sad." Xingxing snuggled into Zhao Guihua's arms and whimpered a few times.
Both Zhou Laoda and Zhao Guihua had a bad feeling. Perhaps Xingxing and her family were being hunted down and Xingxing had escaped by chance, but her family had probably been killed.
Perhaps Xingxing witnessed the murder of her loved ones, but she later injured her head and forgot about the past. However, the psychological shadow of her loved ones' murder was too great, so she occasionally had nightmares.
Zhou Laoda and Zhao Guihua felt complicated and depressed, and for a moment they didn't know how to comfort Xingxing.
That night, a group of soldiers quietly approached Yegou Village. A gate was installed in the middle of the thorn wall in Yegou Village. After dark, someone had to come and open the gate to enter the village.
"Isn't the village chief of Yegou Village being overly cautious? The refugee riots have been over for more than half a year, and not only has the thorn wall not been demolished, but a village gate has also been set up." The yamen runner complained in a gruff voice.
"Sir, how about we break down this village gate?" the constable asked eagerly.
"Don't do anything reckless. Just let Zheng Yue go in and open the door." Zheng Qingshu said calmly, his eyes fixed on the thorny wall that was two people tall.
Zheng Yue was his personal bodyguard, a first-rate fighter with excellent lightness skills. Even if the thorn wall were a meter higher, Zheng Yue could still leap over it.
The constables had never witnessed Zheng Yue's true abilities. When they heard the magistrate say that he was to climb over the wall, they felt that the magistrate was oversimplifying things. It would be strange if a mere servant like Zheng Yue could climb over such a high thorn wall. It would be more convincing to say that they, the constables, were the ones who had climbed over.
But the next moment, they were stunned. Zheng Yue first jumped up easily, then stepped on the middle of the thorn wall for leverage, and then jumped up to stand on top of the thorn wall.
Then a slight thud was heard from inside. It was probably Zheng Yue's deliberate action to let the people outside know that he had successfully climbed over the wall and landed steadily.
"Zheng Yue usually seems unremarkable and clumsy, but it turns out he's a hidden master." A constable whispered to the person next to him.
"That's right, you can't judge a book by its cover. We thought he was an inflexible, dull-witted, and stubborn servant, but we were wrong about him."
"It was indeed our fault for being so blind. How could a master possibly keep a useless servant around to do his bidding? We were just being presumptuous."
Zheng Qingshu listened to the discussion of the constables behind him, but only slightly curled the corners of his lips. There were many things these constables didn't know.
Zheng Yue quickly opened the door, and Magistrate Zheng Qingshu led his men in one after another. After everyone had gone in, Zheng Qingshu instructed Zheng Yue to close the village gate again.
As the group was heading to the Song residence, they suddenly saw a group of villagers rushing over with torches. They hadn't seen any lookouts before, so how did they discover that someone had secretly entered the village?
