Chapter 27 I dare not look
The car stopped in front of the hotel, and Lan Zhe was the first to get out, then took a deep breath.
Lu Xiwen walked past him without glancing at him.
Pei Wu simply felt that Lan Zhe had been making a lot of small moves lately.
Lu Xiwen was warmly welcomed by Shengxing's senior management. Chairman Wan Guirong was also present. After exchanging a few pleasantries, he launched into a series of open and subtle boasts about his personal company. Thinking about his future success, he was beaming with pride. He was in his fifties and looked rather honest.
But Pei Wu didn't think that someone in this position could be any more honest and simple. Under Lu Xiwen's leadership, Chang Rong had been expanding almost without any blind spots in the past two years. When the concept of "intelligent driving" was first proposed, it was ridiculed by everyone. But when it was actually put on the table, the core technology had already been monopolized. Lu Xiwen was arrogant, but he had the capital to be arrogant.
Pei Wu listened attentively from the side, praising the old masters' evasive rhetoric and intending to learn a trick of it.
There were quite a few people at the banquet tonight, but Lu Xiwen didn't need anyone to see him. The elegant hall on the second floor, separated by a Chinese screen, offered a panoramic view of the entire first floor. Wan Guirong personally led Lu Xiwen up there.
They had a meeting all morning, and after a short rest at noon, they came over. Pei Wu and Lan Zhe sat at another table not far away and drank two pots of tea first.
The osmanthus and hibiscus cake on the table smelled wonderful. Pei Wu was good at cooking, but she was really bad at making desserts. The smell made her even hungrier.
He imagined what it would taste like, then turned his head and saw Lu Xiwen casually dot the hibiscus cake and then nod almost imperceptibly.
Pei Wuxin let go, and since his angle was also concealed, he pinched a piece, turned his head, and ate it in one bite.
Lan Zhe wasn't hungry, but seeing this, he pushed the hibiscus cake towards Pei Wu's hand. Every day, he was always rushing around and would always forget that Pei Wu was a Beta, and his physical strength was far inferior to that of an Alpha.
After eating half a plate of hibiscus cake, Pei Wu felt better and quickly filled her notebook with the key points she had just noted down.
Wan Guirong spoke for an hour until her throat was dry, and finally she was able to rest for a while.
Just then, Pei Wu handed the notebook to Lan Zhe for safekeeping, saying, "I'm going to the restroom."
Lan Zhe: "Would you mind if I took a look?"
"Look around as you like."
Lu Xiwen glanced in the direction Pei Wu had turned around.
Lan Zhe opened the notebook and exclaimed inwardly, "Wow!" The handwriting was elegant and refined, and it was a pleasure to read through each page.
Lu Xiwen suddenly stretched out his hand: "Let me see."
Pei Wu always carried a notebook with him, and he knew that in this era where electronic devices were always at hand, he assumed that it was just some random scribbles on it. Pei Wu usually sent documents to report on his work, so when he saw the contents of the notebook, Lu Xiwen leaned back slightly.
This was a somewhat unexpected and leisurely attitude; strangely enough, Lan Zhe even sensed a hint of pride in it.
I need to get a good night's sleep, Lan Zhe thought to himself.
Pei Wu rinsed the foam off her fingers, wiped them briefly with a tissue, and then prepared to go back.
High-end hotel restrooms are all separate, three on each side, six in total. That's right, in addition to taking into account the separation of men and women, there is also the distinction between ABO. The Alpha's restroom is on the outermost side, and the various messy smells are also the strongest.
Just as Pei Wu was about to pass by, she heard someone call out, "Pei Wu."
What awakens before memory is a deep-seated aversion and disgust.
Pei Wu stood still expressionlessly, turned her head, and sure enough, saw Su Chen.
This person, who had given him a tiny bit of help during his university years, almost destroyed his life with devastating force.
When old friends meet again, the expected surprise and joy are nowhere to be found; at least Pei Wu shows no emotion, while Su Chen's heart sinks to the bottom.
But he didn't show it on his face, and instead smiled arrogantly: "Don't you remember your old classmate?"
"I remember." Pei Wu spoke slowly, staring intently at Su Chen without any attempt to avoid him. Sure enough, even his unpleasant features remained unchanged.
"You're working at Changrong now?" Su Chen said, "I just saw you, Shengxing, right? My family has a stake in it."
Pei Wu tilted her head slightly, revealing a slightly puzzled expression, indicating, "And then what?"
Su Chen's smile faded, as if there was nothing left to talk about.
Pei Wu: "Is there anything else?"
“You didn’t come to the class reunion last week,” Su Chen said.
He hinted at it indirectly, and Kang Bo understood that he wanted Pei Wu to come. So he called to contact her, but according to Kang Bo later, Pei Wu hung up as soon as she heard it was him and even blocked his number. Su Chen thought it was just a tantrum, since they had indeed had a rather unpleasant falling out back then. So he simply asked others to contact Pei Wu, but they all disappeared without a trace. However, the message must have been delivered.
To everyone's surprise, Pei Wu didn't show up at the class reunion from beginning to end.
Pei Wu briefly recalled that, taking Kang Bo as an example, he basically refused to answer calls from unknown numbers. If it was a business partner and he couldn't reach him, there was Lan Zhe. As for text messages, there were several that marked a certain place and even included short essays, but Pei Wu was too busy to waste time on such trivial matters.
"I don't want to go," Pei Wu said. "Is there anything else?"
Su Chen suddenly seemed to be ignited, taking a step forward and frowning deeply: "Pei Wu, do you have to talk to me like that?"
He knew Pei Wu was a Beta and couldn't sense Alpha pheromones, yet he still subconsciously released them, carrying a top-down hegemonic sensibility.
However, it was as if the thrown object had encountered the most violent rebound, even slapping him back. The more domineering and powerful pheromones strangled and separated his scent, and then silently issued a fierce warning.
Su Chen was stunned.
He was already at a high level, possessing the power to look down on everything, and few Alpha pheromones could suppress him effectively.
At the same time, Su Chen wondered why Pei Wu had other people's pheromones on her.
He's a Beta!
Not knowing why Su Chen suddenly spaced out, Pei Wu was too lazy to pay attention and said with feigned politeness, "Mr. Su, please enjoy yourself. Goodbye."
By the time Su Chen came to his senses, Pei Wu was nowhere to be seen.
Pei Wu returned to the table, glanced around, and found that the notebook was in Lu Xiwen's hands.
Everyone was chatting and drinking tea in small groups, clearly it was still a break time. Pei Wu saw Lu Xiwen holding a notebook between his middle finger and thumb, tossing it gently in the air, spinning it around, and then catching it steadily, staring at him with a half-smile.
Pei Wu steeled herself and stepped forward, "President Lu, the notebook..."
"Hmm." Lu Xiwen wanted to say something, but his expression suddenly changed. He leaned down slightly, getting closer to Pei Wu, his lips almost touching the back of his neck, completely disregarding how outrageous the position was.
Wan Guirong, who was nearby, fell silent and stared at them in astonishment.
A moment later, Lu Xiwen stepped aside and handed the notebook to Pei Wu, saying, "Your handwriting is quite good."
Pei Wu, who had just been feeling a chill run down his spine, stiffened up and slowly said, "President Lu, you flatter me."
Lan Zhe lowered his head, not daring to look.
