Chapter 1 I am a Beta
At 2 PM, Pei Wu walked out of the airport.
His clothes fluttered in the cold wind of Hongdu. He casually took off his gold-rimmed glasses, revealing his slender and tall figure, which stood out in the crowd.
Before more people could see, the car pulled up in front of them, and Pei Wu bent down to get in.
"Assistant Pei, President Lu is at No. 1 Mansion." Driver Lao Zhu had worked with Pei Wu for several months and they were quite familiar with each other.
Pei Wu: "Okay, let's go now."
"Was your business trip successful?"
"It's alright." Pei Wu paused for a moment, "I shouldn't disappoint President Lu."
Old Zhu subconsciously shrank his neck, as if Lu Xiwen was there.
Pei Wu understood this perfectly; it was really not easy for everyone to survive under President Lu.
The No. 1 Mansion is located right next to Honghai Park and in front of a meticulously maintained garden. With unobstructed views and stunning scenery on all sides, it is a popular destination for the upper class.
As soon as the car stopped, the manager greeted us with a smile.
Inside, the group of rich kids were having a blast. The pool water was brought in from Honghai, and they even put some ornamental fish in it. Several of them were pushing and shoving each other as they jumped in. There were seven or eight tables set up on the shore, where they were playing cards, drinking, and doing all sorts of other things.
However, everyone tacitly agreed to wear neck rings or take suppressants to ensure that their pheromones would not be leaked at all, since it was common knowledge that Lu Xiwen hated the smell of any pheromones.
Noticing something, Lu Xiwen looked up.
He sat in the center, surrounded by admirers, his handsome face illuminated by the sunlight. His eyes were beautiful and long, and when he raised them slightly, they seemed affectionate, but in reality, they were mocking and cold. He looked at everyone as trash, and a sarcastic smile habitually appeared at the corners of his mouth. He was very difficult to get along with.
Upon seeing that it was Pei Wu, Lu Xiwen gave a cold laugh.
Pei Wu sighed, as if she could already hear Lu Xiwen's thoughts, "Why spend three days on a contract? Why not spend two weeks sightseeing at their house?"
However, after three days, it was almost time for Lu Xiwen to lose his temper.
Kuang Junmeng had contact with Pei Wu through business, and waved to him.
Pei Wu waved back, then walked over there.
"Your little assistant is here." Cao Guan joked. He had known Lu Xiwen for over ten years and knew very well how picky the man was. Pei Wu was one of the few assistants he had worked for for three months after he started changing assistants like water. Who knows what she had been through.
Lu Xiwen withdrew his gaze and simply murmured an "Mm".
Pei Wu approached and inevitably overheard their conversation.
Kuang Junmeng: "The eldest son of the Zhou family is already thirty-two years old, and he still wants to marry my cousin, saying it's a powerful alliance."
Lu Xiwen: "The Zhou family doesn't have a mirror?"
The Zhou family's Zhuosheng Technology has long been divided into four or five parts due to internal strife, and is surrounded by wolves from the outside world. It is too late to think of saving it by marriage now. Moreover, the eldest son of the Zhou family lost a leg in a car accident many years ago. Marrying Kuang Junmeng's cousin is really audacious.
Lu Xiwen's words were laced with sarcasm, but Pei Wu was already used to it.
After all, this was his fourth month as the other party's assistant.
Working from dawn till dusk, day and night, countless overtime days, in short—
There wasn't even time to hang himself.
Looking across the entire city of Hongdu, there's no one more difficult to deal with than Lu Xiwen.
No wonder, on the day Pei Wu joined the company, the HR manager was so excited that he almost broke his high heels. He looked at Pei Wu with admiration and sympathy, and told him to be careful in everything he did, especially the words, "Even if you are in the bathroom, if the phone rings, please stretch your arm eight meters long!" The words of advice were so profound that they left a deep impression on Pei Wu.
He was thinking about how difficult Lu Xiwen was to please.
As expected, I wasn't disappointed.
Pei Wu stopped. "President Lu."
His gentle and clear voice drew the attention of many people.
Pei Wuren, true to his name, has a gentle appearance and temperament, showing no aggression. He stands upright with his head slightly bowed, humble and proper, and his smile makes people feel very friendly. He is meticulous from head to toe, and it is not hard to see that he is rigorous and has a great style.
With just one glance, many people could understand why Lu Xiwen had kept him.
Lu Xiwen didn't speak, so Pei Wu took the initiative to stand behind him.
After glancing around, Pei Wu noticed that Lu Xiwen's tea was almost untouched, as were the pastries on the table, which seemed to be water chestnut cake, not to Lu Xiwen's taste.
No wonder you look so pale.
Just then, the waiter brought over some fresh tea. Pei Wu gently stopped him, then took the tea from his hand. She glanced at it and saw that it was Jin Jun Mei tea, and immediately breathed a sigh of relief. "You go ahead with your work."
The waiter was slightly swayed by his smile.
Pei Wu took off his trench coat and draped it over the back of a chair. He stood in front of the tea tray and bent down. His movements were skillful and casual. The peony pattern on the ceramic teacup seemed to bloom as it swayed. People around couldn't help but hold their breath to watch. Before long, the aroma of tea wafted out.
Lu Xiwen looked over with an air of superiority, her eyelashes long and thick.
The tea leaves unfurled, and the tea liquor became bright and clear. Pei Wu served the first cup to Lu Xiwen.
Lu Xiwen gave a soft "hmm," which sounded more like a cold snort. He sipped his drink slowly and finished it quickly.
Pei Wu continued.
"Hey, hey, hey." Kuang Junmeng gently tapped the table, waiting to be fed. "Assistant Pei, we're human too."
Pei Wu smiled and said, "We have them all."
Kuang Junmeng took a sip after receiving it. He didn't particularly like black tea, but Pei Wu's skills were exceptional.
The two cups of tea seemed to soothe Lu Xiwen's anger. He tilted his head slightly and asked, "Is everything settled?"
"Yes."
Lu Xi didn't offer much comment, but instead introduced a middle-aged man beside him to Pei Wu: "This is Mr. Zhang from Banlu."
Pei Wu instantly understood what Lu Xiwen meant.
Chang Rong had previously approached the person in charge of Banluosha to discuss cooperation on matters related to the Lindong Port Hotel, but the negotiation process was not smooth. The general manager of Banluosha was also elusive. After three meetings, Lu Xiwen inquired about the progress, but everyone below remained silent. It was because he couldn't stand it anymore that he personally took action.
In any case, it's Pei Wu's turn now.
Mr. Zhang had a good impression of Pei Wu, and the two quickly struck up a conversation.
After taking a couple of sips of Pei Wu's tea, General Manager Zhang was in a great mood and asked him, "Do you know how to play cards?"
Pei Wu smiled and said, "You've dealt me a good hand; you're letting me off easy."
What a load of rubbish! Boss Zhang was seeing stars. At his age, he was no match for the cunning Cao Guan on the other side.
Pei Wu took the card from General Manager Zhang, and Cao Guan, who had been acting nonchalantly, immediately sat up straight upon seeing this.
Pei Wu replaced General Manager Zhang. In the first round, they drew, but in the second round, they crushed the opposing team.
Mr. Zhang watched with great excitement, patting his nearly bald forehead as he drank tea, looking as if he had been polished to a shine.
"Go! Go! Go!" Boss Zhang shouted, brandishing his claws. "If I lose, I'll pay!"
Pei Wu certainly wouldn't lose, and he even had to keep a close eye on things so that Cao Guan and the others on the other side wouldn't lose too badly. President Zhang was pleased and said to Lu Xiwen, "President Lu, please don't mind, but to be honest, if it had been Assistant Pei who contacted me in the first place, our business deal would have been finalized long ago."
Lu Xiwen gave a meaningless laugh.
Mr. Zhang sighed a few times, then tentatively asked, "Grade A?"
This is asking what level of Alpha Pei Wu is.
With such discerning judgment, anyone would gravitate towards being an Alpha.
Pei Wu calmly said, "Mr. Zhang, I am a Beta."
Before Mr. Zhang could even stop smiling, he was immediately dumbfounded.
Look, Kuang Junmeng feels relieved; he's not the only one who's shocked.
"Beta?" Mr. Zhang was very skeptical.
Pei Wu firmly replied, "Beta."
Mr. Zhang's eyes still held admiration, but also pity.
It's not easy for a Beta to reach Pei Wu's level. It's not a matter of ability, but rather the privilege bestowed upon them by their genes from the very beginning. Alphas are destined to be stronger, faster, and more agile, unlike the soft and beautiful Omegas, who can resonate with Alphas through pheromones. Betas are caught in the middle, mediocre and unremarkable.
To rise from obscurity to the top, Pei Wu was destined to put in ten or even a hundred times more effort than an ordinary Alpha.
After the gathering ended, it was already past 5 p.m. when we left the mansion.
Pei Wu had barely slept more than a few hours in the past three days. He blinked his sore eyes, turned his head and saw that Lu Xiwen was dressed neatly and had a powerful aura.
The top-tier Alpha is a highly efficient machine that operates with precision. It can work continuously for a week and still walk with a brisk pace. You can't even dream of having one.
Seeing the car arrive, Pei Wu asked gently, "Mr. Lu, shall we go back?"
Lu Xiwen casually said, "I'm hungry."
Pei Wu: "..."
Okay, let's keep working overtime.
