Chapter 37 Thank you for your help
The chicken drumsticks are small, but eating five in a row is quite filling.
Pei Zhen couldn't stand it anymore, so she put on her clothes and went downstairs to digest her food.
"Be back before dark," Pei Wu instructed.
"good."
Pei Zhen didn't go far; she took out her phone and chattered away to her best friend.
She sat on the bench, not feeling cold because she was dressed warmly, and stood with her legs up, watching the occasional pedestrians passing by on the opposite street.
I have thought about what kind of partner my brother will find in the future. It will probably be a Beta, since in the current market, it's safest for a Beta to find another Beta. I hope she's as gentle as my brother, and that the two of them can discuss things together and live a peaceful life.
But when I saw it, I realized it was completely different.
He was an extraordinary Alpha, domineering and autocratic, yet when sitting next to his elder brother, no one could find fault with him.
My best friend sent me a voice message: "Is he really that handsome? Talk is cheap."
Pei Zhen pressed the record button and replied, "It's not good to secretly film people now. I'll film them openly and honestly when things are settled!"
Pei Zhen didn't stay overnight. After she got back and had a couple of sips of water, Pei Wu drove her home in his secondhand car.
The brother and sister chatted all the way, then stopped at the alley entrance. Pei Zhen wouldn't let Pei Wu go any further, figuring out that their parents would be back soon, and if they were seen, things would get complicated.
"Brother, I'm leaving." Pei Zhen unbuckled her seatbelt and jumped out of the car nimbly.
"Message me when you get home."
"no problem."
Pei Wu waited in the car for a few minutes, and then Pei Zhen called, saying, "Brother, I'm home." She deliberately lowered her voice, clearly indicating that someone was home. Relieved, he drove towards the rented house. As he passed a certain street, he saw a food stall open.
Pei Wu parked the car on the side of the road.
Lu Xiwen waited and waited, feeling that he had gone too long, and was about to call Pei Wu when he heard the door open.
“I thought you were planning to stay there,” Lu Xiwen said.
Sensing something was off about his tone, Pei Wu shook the bag in her hand: "Barbecue, want some?"
How does it taste?
“I’ve tried it, it’s not bad.” Pei Wu walked over and handed it to him, “You didn’t eat much tonight, so here’s an extra meal.”
Lu Xiwen's expression looked better.
Pei Wu stood in front of the barbecue stall for a while, and his clothes smelled of it. He couldn't stand it, so he told Lu Xiwen to eat first, and then he went to take a shower.
About ten minutes later, I came out, threw my dirty clothes into the washing machine, dried my hair, and sat down opposite Lu Xiwen.
Mr. Lu was very thoughtful and left a portion of each kind of kebab.
Pei Wu's hair was half wet, but the heating was on tonight, so he wasn't worried about catching a cold. He wore a cream-colored sweater with a large neckline, and without the pressure of an elite aura, he looked much younger. Water from his hair dripped onto his neck and down his collarbone.
"I'm going to the restroom," Lu Xiwen said, getting up.
Pei Wu sat on the stool without looking up, but couldn't help but smile after Lu Xi smelled it.
The two were quite comfortable here. Pei Wu's sofa had never been tidied up again. Lu Xiwen liked to lie on it, so a gray blanket that had been stored away for a long time came in handy. They worked during the day and watched movies or chatted casually at night, so the New Year was not lonely.
However, perhaps joy turned to sorrow, because on the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, Pei Wu woke up from the cold that night.
He sat up and felt that there was no warmth in the air. He quickly put on his clothes and got out of bed. He touched the heating pipe and found that it was indeed not working. He could only do the old thing and go to the bathroom to drain some water. He would go to the nearby heating station to ask tomorrow.
Pei Wu's hands and feet turned ice cold after standing in the bathroom for just three minutes.
The wind outside seemed to be blowing in all at once. Just as a basin of water was placed in the water, Lu Xi heard the noise and came out.
Seeing how troublesome Pei Wu was, he frowned impatiently and said, "Pack your things."
Pei Wu turned around: "Huh?"
"Let's go to Yunlu Bay."
"Now?"
“Otherwise?” Lu Xiwen said, “If you keep that blanket huddled up all night, it won’t turn into a heater tomorrow.”
Stove...
The underfloor heating at Yunlu Bay is extremely comfortable. During the previous few nights, Pei Wu liked to wear socks and walk on the wooden floor, finding it very pleasant.
Lu Xiwen added, "My aunt texted me today to say that the refrigerator is full too."
Pei Wu made a quick decision: "I'll go change my clothes."
I couldn't stop shivering while changing clothes; it seemed I had no choice but to leave.
There were some things she needed to bring, and while Pei Wu was packing, Lu Xiwen leaned against the cabinet door with his arms crossed and started chattering: "Didn't you tell Lan Zhe you were going to move? Have you decided on a place yet?"
"I found a place I liked, a ten-minute drive from the company, but the owner went back to their hometown early, so I guess I'll have to wait until after the new year to rent a place."
"After the New Year? Why not wait until everyone's frozen into ice sculptures?"
“This is an old-style residential area. The heating system has been in use for decades, and it’s a real hassle to replace it.” Pei Wu said, then sneezed and glanced at his watch—it was four in the morning.
Lu Xiwen immediately straightened up, quickly packed up the rest, and said, "Let's go."
The wind and snow continued unabated into the middle of the night. Lu Xiwen pushed Pei Wu into the passenger seat, put his things in the trunk, and then stepped on the gas and drove to Yunlu Bay.
The streetlights were lonely, and there were hardly any cars around at the moment.
Pei Wu shivered from time to time, a bad feeling creeping into her heart. She thought she would cook some ginger soup when Lu Xiwen arrived.
Speaking of which, he's been in pretty good shape this winter. In previous years, he would catch at least three colds, big or small, but this year he hasn't had a single one.
After all that commotion, both of them were wide awake.
Upon arriving at Yunlu Bay, after putting their things away, Pei Wu busied herself in the kitchen, while Lu Xiwen habitually took out her laptop and went upstairs again.
When Pei Wu brought out two bowls of ginger soup, there were various cold medicines on the table.
"Take a look and see which one you can eat. If you don't have any, have someone send some over," Lu Xiwen said.
Pei Wu picked up the two trays and looked at them. "Both are edible. Thank you, Mr. Lu."
Lu Xiwen didn't drink the ginger soup. He could tolerate it as a condiment, but he couldn't stand the taste of it when it was cooked.
Pei Wu knew about the top-tier resistance, so she didn't make things difficult for her. She took the medicine and drank it all. Half an hour later, she took some cold medicine, but it didn't seem to help.
At 10 a.m., Pei Wu started to feel drowsy. Lu Xi asked the same question three times in a row, but Pei Wu was still not in the right state of mind. He frowned, got up, and touched Pei Wu's forehead. It was very hot.
"President Lu?" Pei Wu squinted, her eyes barely opening to a slit.
Why didn't you say you were feeling unwell?
“It’s not serious,” Pei Wu replied.
"Go upstairs."
"Hmm." Pei Wu readily agreed, but didn't move. After a while, he looked up at Lu Xiwen, a little embarrassed, and said, "I'm out of energy."
Lu Xiwen reached out his hand, and Pei Wu grasped it. The hot and humid touch instantly widened the pores of his palm, turning into a tingling sensation that surged upwards from his tailbone.
Pei Wu needed to get some leverage, so he pulled Lu Xiwen's arm closer to him. His hot breath sprayed onto Lu Xiwen's wrist, and the usually calm and collected Alpha's expression suddenly changed.
"Mr. Lu."
Perhaps due to the high fever, Pei Wu's voice sounded like sand soaked in seawater, its distinct graininess grinding against Lu Xiwen's heart, making it hard to ignore.
Beta looked up, her eyes misty, and said, "Thank you for your help."
