Chapter 47 Possible Failure
Pei Wu's worst fears came true.
When Lu Xiwen got angry, he was impossible to communicate with.
His inherent personality, coupled with the negative effects of being at the top, led him to be overly arrogant. This arrogance was beyond the comprehension of ordinary people and carried a strong sense of expulsion, as if to say, "Leave me alone, let the world end, I can manage on my own." No matter who approached, he would bare his fangs.
Lu Xiwen stubbornly preferred to heal his wounds alone, and his attacks were indiscriminate, including those against Pei Wu.
But this shouldn't be how two people should be together.
At least in Pei Wu's view of love, it shouldn't be like this.
Lu Xiwen's words "It has nothing to do with you" really stung Pei Wu. Perhaps because he had always played the role of a tolerant leader since childhood, he hoped that with a little guidance, he could get along with Lu Xiwen on these issues in a gentle way, instead of being like a firecracker that would explode at the slightest touch.
No matter how deep the feelings are, they will wear off over time.
Pei Wu crossed her arms and rested them on her knees, but even after being exposed to the cold wind for a long time, she still couldn't feel better.
He was still very angry.
This anger lasted until the end of the weekend, and I went to work on Monday.
He did his job as a personal assistant, preparing breakfast for Lu Xiwen as usual, including the one he secretly fed to Lan Zhe. The difference was that Assistant Pei didn't speak. He still had a warm smile on his face and his eyes were clear and calm, but he didn't look at Lu Xiwen or take the initiative to communicate. He would talk about things when there was something to say, and otherwise he would leave things to himself.
Lan Zhe was so frightened that he didn't dare to eat breakfast, thinking that President Lu had noticed.
But soon, Lan Zhe noticed that President Lu had also stopped talking.
Even President Lu's face was ten times worse than usual, his brows furrowed and never relaxed. Several senior executives who went to report on their work in the morning all came out looking disheveled. This was a clear signal, causing the entire company to silently sound the alarm. It even seemed that the design director of Lei Ling Fengxing lowered the sound of his high heels a little.
The design director ran into Pei Wu midway through the process. Since the two communicated frequently, he asked directly, "What's wrong with President Lu?"
Pei Wu said calmly, "Haven't he always been like that?"
Design Director: "?"
"Bad temper, difficult to please, deep-thinking, disobedient." Pei Wu used a single click to describe four things.
The design director stared wide-eyed in horror. "No, that's not what you said when you praised Mr. Lu as a conscientious entrepreneur!"
Pei Wu continued, "Just bear with it. Who told us to be treated like cattle and horses..."
Before Pei Wu could say anything more, the design director yanked his arm hard.
At the other end of the corridor stood Lu Xiwen and Lan Zhe, who had appeared at some unknown time.
Lan Zhe first covered his eyes, then rubbed his ears, and finally made the sign of the cross on his chest.
Lu Xiwen's face turned as black as the bottom of a pot.
Pei Wu, however, seemed completely oblivious, glancing at him before casually looking away.
Lu Xiwen strode past the two of them, the wind he stirred up almost like slaps to their faces. The design director held his breath in fright, and Lan Zhe, passing by, quickly asked Pei Wu, "What's wrong with you?"
Pei Wu rubbed her temples, finally calming down. "No."
Pei Wu was rarely provoked like this. He comforted the design director for a couple of minutes and then returned to his office.
The cold war continued into the third day. During the two business trips in between, Lu Xiwen didn't bring Pei Wu with him. The people in the company with sharp eyes and keen ears immediately guessed that Pei Wu was about to fall out of favor.
On Wednesday afternoon, Pei Wu said goodbye to Lan Zhe and left work an hour early.
He was on a bus, and the wind calmed his restlessness.
Pei Wu asked herself in her heart, was it necessary to get so angry?
The conclusion then becomes: yes.
He could be infinitely tolerant of Lu Xiwen in other matters, but not in this one. The two of them had vastly different ways of looking at people and things. Whether they were dating or living together, this was a ticking time bomb. Pei Wu didn't want every act of care he showed in the future to be met with Lu Xiwen's cold violence.
Dr. Zhou didn't keep Pei Wu waiting any longer. After finishing his work, he took him to a private examination room.
The testing equipment emitted a piercing alarm. Dr. Zhou frowned deeply as he looked at the various data displays. "The stabilizer may need to be increased in dosage."
Pei Wu opened her eyes: "Why?"
He had a falling out with Lu Xiwen, so the pheromones he had as an Alpha were very faint. Doctor Zhou didn't notice, but simply said the truth: "Your perception of pheromones has increased by more than two hundred times. Do you know what that means?" Doctor Zhou looked at Pei Wu: "You're not an Omega, you don't have glands, but you still react to pheromones. It's like blowing air into a balloon; a person would feel suffocated."
Pei Wu indicated that she understood, "So, if this continues, the stabilizer might become ineffective one day?"
Zhou Yu sighed helplessly, realizing that sometimes being too clever isn't a good thing.
"Besides using stabilizers, are there any other methods?" Pei Wu asked, "So I can make preparations."
Zhou Yu's brows furrowed deeply. "This requires a more detailed examination."
What's your general direction?
Zhou Yu sighed, "If it really comes to that, we can consider artificial glands."
Artificial glands were originally created by some Beta or Alpha individuals seeking novelty in their quest to become Omegas. They were almost banned because they defied common sense, but were later found to be helpful in treating certain diseases and were preserved. They are generally used for Omegas with gland problems, and are also suitable for cases like Pei Wu's.
"Approximately how much?"
Zhou Yu: "Conservatively 800,000."
Pei Wu's eyelashes trembled slightly: "I understand."
It turns out that it wasn't just the smell of the sirens that bothered him. He said that he had been fine before, but suddenly he felt restless and anxious. When he went to sleep at night, waves of heat would come crashing down on his head, and he would occasionally feel short of breath and feel like his bones were aching.
Zhou Yu was also curious; it had been under control all along, so how could it have suddenly deteriorated so drastically?
Pei Wu got the medicine, and another sum of money was deducted from her bank card.
Eight hundred thousand? That's far from enough, Pei Wu thought to herself.
He thought of Lu Xiwen's complete rejection of Omega attitude and couldn't help but laugh at himself. He didn't know why, but he had never been very lucky since he was a child. As soon as things started to look up, bad luck would come his way.
But if that day really comes, Pei Wu still hopes to take a gamble. He doesn't want to die, nor does he intend to pay the price of his life for any Alpha.
This made Lu Xiwen even more disliked.
On Thursday, Pei Wu prepared breakfast and coffee before going to work. She had only been sitting at her desk for five minutes when Lu Xiwen came in.
The man went into the inner room without looking to either side, slammed the door shut, and didn't even greet Pei Wu.
When it comes to patience, who can compare to the best?
Pei Wu took a breath and focused all her attention on her work.
As noon approached, Lu Xiwen hurriedly left again. Lan Zhe gestured to Pei Wu to follow quickly. Lan Zhe was also helpless about this. He did not expect the two to have such a fierce cold war, making him feel like a little eunuch barely clinging to life by the side of a tyrant.
"Assistant Pei." An internal call came in. "Someone downstairs is looking for you. Um...would you like to come down and take a look?"
