Chapter 46 Pei Wu, This Has Nothing to Do with You
After a busy month, Pei Wu gradually felt that wearing a coat was too hot, and then realized that spring had arrived in Hongdu.
It's worth mentioning that Guan Yan really did send over the compensation jackets, one wasn't enough, he sent two, as if he were walking on a red line. Once, they even sent them to Changrong. The receptionist there had spoken to Pei Wu and, with a bit of boldness, gossiped a little. Pei Wu sighed and explained with a smile that they were friends.
Upon learning the news, Lu Xiwen spent half an hour making phone calls in his office.
From Lan Zhe's angle, he could see Lu Xiwen's passionate expression through a drooping glass pane. It didn't look like they were discussing business; they were clearly arguing. Turning his head, he saw Pei Zhu processing documents without noticing, his keyboard clapping loudly.
Guan Yan hung up the phone in a daze, thinking that Lu Xiwen sometimes talked a lot of nonsense.
Kuang Junmeng sent a message at noon, saying that the lawn on the farm he bought two years ago has finally grown and is lush and green under the nourishment of the spring breeze. He invited them to come and visit on Saturday, which is half a month from now.
Pei Wu also received an invitation, only saying that she would cooperate with Lu Xiwen's schedule.
As soon as the weather warmed up, Pei Wu felt embarrassed and temporarily moved out of Yunlu Bay amidst Lu Xiwen's barely concealed dissatisfaction.
The main issue is that he has to move.
The new house was settled, fully furnished, and the price was reasonable. It would save a lot of commuting time. Pei Wu didn't have many large items, but she packed two boxes of small things. Lu Xiwen said, "Take your time moving," but the day before Pei Wu moved, he called again, "I'll come over tomorrow morning."
Pei Wu chuckled, "Okay, thank you, President Lu."
Lu Xiwen drove up a nearly dusty SUV, its expensive emblem attracting the attention of a security guard who circled around to look at it.
Lu Xiwen, who usually wouldn't even lift a finger to pour tea, rolled up his sleeves and got to work right away.
Pei Wu had noticed long ago that Lu Xiwen simply didn't like to respond to people and things he didn't care about, but if he took something to heart, he was willing to do anything for it.
Lu Xiwen carried the two large boxes from upstairs to downstairs. Pei Wu reminded him that there were fragile items inside, so he was extra careful when putting them down. He filled the trunk, then put some more in the back seat, and that was about it.
The new home is in a mid-range residential area. At least the security guards at the gate will carefully register any vehicles from outside. Lu Xiwen glanced at the patrolling staff outside through the car window and was barely satisfied.
Actually, I've been quite annoyed lately. Lu Xiwen was thinking of having a proper relationship with Pei Wu and making this "ambiguous period" official. He even asked Lan Zhe for his opinion in private. Lan Zhe said that going to the movies or going on trips would be good options. However, he was too busy with work, and now Pei Wu had moved out of Yunlu Bay. Fortunately, Kuang Junmeng was helpful and said that he would find a solution when he went to his farm.
The new apartment has two bedrooms and a living room, about 60 square meters. It's still cramped for Lu Xiwen, but it's much brighter and has great natural light. You can tell the landlord put a lot of thought into it; the curtains and tablecloths are very fresh and cute.
Pei Wu put the things back in their places. Lu Xiwen wanted to help, but Pei Wu refused, saying, "You don't know where they are."
Lu Xiwen could only sit on the sofa and play on his phone.
"What do you want to eat for lunch?" Pei Wu asked him.
"Let's go out to eat," Lu Xiwen said. "I've been busy all morning."
Pei Wu thought about it and agreed: "Then thank you very much, Mr. Lu, for helping me move. I'll treat you to dinner."
Lu Xiwen glanced at him, his expression leaving no room for argument: "It's my treat."
Pei Wu understood the poisonous mist that Lu Xiwen hadn't spat out. "With your meager salary, you should save your money."
After they finished packing, it was almost time, so Lu Xiwen drove Pei Wu to a restaurant they frequented.
Everything was harmonious. Midway through, Lu Xi heard that he was going to the restroom, but Pei Wu didn't think much of it. However, less than five minutes later, a slightly abrupt commotion suddenly came from the corridor on one side. The restaurant was too quiet, so when high heels were rapidly clattering on the ground and one person was shouting something while chasing another, it was quite clear.
Pei Wu turned her head and saw Lu Xiwen walking ahead with a cold face, followed by a woman.
Only when she got closer could Pei Wu see clearly.
The woman was beautiful and intelligent. Even though she was a bit older, she still had a beautiful figure. Luxury brands were just embellishments on her. More importantly, she had a striking resemblance to Lu Xiwen in terms of her features.
Pei Wu vaguely guessed the other party's identity.
Before they had even finished their meal, Lu Xiwen picked up his coat from the back of his chair and urged Pei Wu, "Let's go."
"Xi Wen," the woman said, slightly out of breath, her voice filled with pain and helplessness, "do you really have to treat your mother like this?"
Lu Xiwen looked at her.
Tang Qingsu's heart sank suddenly, and she said anxiously, "I plan to go to Yunlu Bay to find you tomorrow."
“Don’t look for me,” Lu Xiwen said. “You don’t need to tell me when you go abroad, and it’s the same when you come back.”
Tang Qingsu's eyes were filled with deep helplessness, as if she had a lot to say but didn't know where to start. She was greatly shocked. She never expected that the first time she saw her son after returning to China, there would be no warmth at all, but instead a familiar coldness and sharpness.
Tang Qingsu's face was extremely pale, while Lu Xiwen had already rushed out at great speed.
Pei Wu was worried and, seeing Tang Qingsu swaying precariously, instinctively reached out to support her. Lu Xiwen sensed something, turned around abruptly, and said in a sharp voice, "Pei Wu, come here!"
Pei Wu helped Tang Qingsu sit down before jogging after her.
The car was right by the roadside, but as soon as I sat down, Lu Xiwen's questions came crashing down on me: "Do you even know her before you help her? You've been taken advantage of so many times, don't you ever learn?"
“Lu Xiwen, that’s your mother.” Pei Wu suppressed her smile.
Lu Xi started the car and, completely lacking in manners, said, "What, should I learn from your kindness and visit your mother another day?"
Pei Wu took a deep breath, suppressing her anger, and discerned another meaning from Lu Xiwen's words.
His discord with his family stemmed from his own mother's exploitation of him, offering him pitifully little maternal love. What about Lu Xiwen?
Lu Xiwen is not short of money, and he himself said that his parents live separately abroad, which may have had some very bad influence on him.
"She left you quite early, right?" Pei Wu probed cautiously. "But that lady seemed to care about you a lot. Could there be some misunderstanding?"
“Pei Wu.” Lu Xiwen seemed completely taken aback, his voice turning icy cold. “This has nothing to do with you.”
Pei Wu's heart turned completely cold with those words.
He pressed the tip of his tongue against his cheek, pondered the sentence carefully, then chuckled softly and knocked heavily on the car door. "Stop the car."
Lu Xiwen slammed on the brakes.
Pei Wu got off decisively, and before she could even stand up properly, the car behind her whipped up a gust of wind and sped away.
Pei Wu didn't turn around. He walked over a fence and found a newly built park. He went in, found a quiet spot to sit down, and felt a cool breeze coming from the artificial lake not far away. Pei Wu stared at the ripples on the water, and the restlessness in his heart gradually subsided.
