Chapter 8 Going on a Business Trip Together

Chapter 8 Going on a Business Trip Together

Pei Wu basically slept through the two-hour flight from Hongdu to Haishi.

When he opened his eyes, the plane was taxiing. He was startled and sat up abruptly.

"Had a nightmare?" Lu Xiwen's indifferent voice rang out from the side, calming the racing heart caused by panic.

Pei Wu turned to look at Lu Xiwen, her eyes still showing a hint of confusion.

Lu Xiwen: "You really had a nightmare?"

"I'm sorry, Mr. Lu," Pei Wu said hoarsely.

Lu Xiwen picked up the bottled water on the table, unscrewed it, and handed it to him. "I didn't wake you up because nothing's wrong. I was just curious how much of a capitalist I am in your eyes that even sleeping makes you so nervous."

Pei Wu shook his head and tilted his head back to gulp down two mouthfuls of water.

This fear of being suddenly awakened from sleep actually accompanied Pei Wu for a long time.

At first, seeing a doctor was a hassle, and he was often woken up by his parents in the middle of the night. Later, when his younger siblings were born, he had to travel between school and the hospital alone, often having to be on time to make sure he didn't miss either. When he went to university, he studied, worked part-time, and expanded his side business, and there never seemed to be enough time. When he finally got a formal job, things didn't go smoothly at the beginning. Large companies like Changrong were highly competitive, and smaller companies were bothered by his Beta status. In terms of priority in terms of salary and benefits, he was always behind many others. He could only study desperately and comfort himself that he would eventually get his chance. Every second counted as he walked along the red line of time for ten years.

Pei Wu quickly adjusted her state.

Lu Xiwen saw the dark emotion in his eyes recede like the tide, and gentleness covered the dark rocks, and he became that extremely easy-going person again.

"Is Mr. Lu hungry?" Pei Wu asked.

“It’s alright,” Lu Xi said. “The sandwiches in the morning were quite filling.”

These words made Pei Wu feel a little better.

Lu Xiwen wondered if he had been putting too much pressure on Pei Zhu lately.

But that's just how he is. If he couldn't keep up, he wouldn't have kept Pei Wu. And Lu Xiwen had no intention of showing any mercy either, not for any other reason than that he had seen the ambition in Pei Wu's eyes.

Besides, he didn't just throw Pei Wu into the swamp; he took her to the battlefield she had always longed for.

The plane came to a stop and the cabin door opened wide. The young man, carrying his backpack, walked away without looking back. It seemed that Pei Wu's previous high spirits were just an illusion. Of course, he quickly forgot about such a trivial matter.

The person who was supposed to pick him up was waiting early. After getting into the car from the terminal, Lu Xiwen turned on his computer.

Pei Wu sat to the side, occasionally Lu Xiwen would say something briefly, and he would immediately check the information.

Investment in biotechnology has become more cautious and discreet since research on "pheromone blocking" nearly killed an Omega two years ago, which resulted in gland rupture. Attracting investment has become increasingly difficult.

The Fang family in Haicheng possesses top-notch medical expertise and comprehensive knowledge, making cooperation with them a very secure partnership.

Pei Wu was surprised that Lu Xiwen would actually be interested in this project.

He gently stroked his phone, and the screen lit up, displaying a title about "Inhibiting drug penetration by 95% while minimizing side effects."

Currently, in addition to inhibitors, there are also neck rings and other things that can help Omegas get through the heat cycle, but at the same time, the resulting weakness, anxiety, and other negative emotions have not been relieved. This is still the darkest moment for single Omegas.

Most Alphas are incompletely evolved animals. In terms of physical structure, only the top-tier Alphas are complete, but top-tier Alphas are rare and lack even the most basic empathy.

Pei Wu sometimes felt from the bottom of her heart that Beta was great.

The car drove all the way to a resort in the suburbs. When it stopped, a low whistling of cold wind came from the valley not far away, and it was chilly.

The person who came out to greet Lu Xiwen was not a member of the Fang family, but a vice president named Rong Hongzhi.

This man was in his fifties. His Alpha characteristics had faded considerably after being exposed to alcohol. Apart from his shrewd eyes, he looked like an ordinary middle-aged man with a beer belly.

Not to mention Lu Xiwen, even Pei Wu frowned slightly at this arrangement.

Not a single person from the Fang family came to speak.

A show of force? No, these days, apart from Lu Xiwen, no one else would dare to take the risk of this kind of project. The Fang family wouldn't make such a basic mistake.

Something seemed amiss, but Rong Hongzhi didn't say anything, so they decided to wait and see.

The interior of the manor was larger and more spacious, with luxurious decorations. Even from a distance, one could see the disc-shaped chandelier hanging from the highest ceiling. As soon as one entered the main entrance, the servants on both sides bowed in unison. Pei Wu frowned, feeling a bit awkward about this stark distinction between superiors and inferiors. Rong Hongzhi, on the other hand, looked up and seemed to be enjoying himself. But that wasn't the most outrageous thing. After they sat down, Rong Hongzhi snapped his fingers, and someone brought over drinks.

All of these waitresses were young and beautiful, dressed in uniform black and white outfits. The bow ties at their collars would come undone with a tug, and the triangular corners of their shirts at their buttocks would stick up with each bow, clearly implying something.

Rong Hongzhi crossed his legs, took a glass of red wine from a young waiter, and as he looked down, his brown eyes were cloudy and lewd. He pinched the waiter's cheek hard.

Pei Wu was very vigilant.

Lu Xiwen was much more composed. He asked in a deep voice, "Where is Fang Xiao?"

For some reason, Rong Hongzhi's eyes cleared up for a moment. He pulled himself out of his infatuated state of "I can do whatever I want" and seemed to realize who Lu Xiwen was. He became more restrained and said, "President Fang has something come up and can't come, but he will definitely be here by noon tomorrow at the latest. Please be patient, President Lu. As instructed by President Fang, I have prepared everything here. President Lu can enjoy himself to the fullest."

As soon as he finished speaking, a cute boy with round eyes walked towards Lu Xiwen.

“Stand there.” Lu Xiwen said coldly, “I don’t need you.”

Pei Wu wondered if Rong Hongzhi hadn't done his homework beforehand.

Lu Xiwen is "allergic" to Omega pheromones. No matter the occasion, Lu Xiwen does not want anyone to accompany him. He silently occupies the space, and his pheromone barrier can block out all smells.

Rong Hongzhi's actions clearly angered him, and Lu Xiwen's face immediately turned icy cold.

"I don't see that you are sincere in your negotiations."

"No, no, no!" Rong Hongzhi waved his hands repeatedly. "President Lu, please don't be angry. I'll make them leave right away!"

With just a glance from him, the waiters hurriedly left.

Rong Hongzhi wasn't brain-dead. Lu Xiwen was in charge of Hongdu, and his outward habits weren't a secret. But Rong Hongzhi had been obsessed with young and beautiful bodies for years, and he couldn't understand how anyone could not like that. His privacy was usually compromised when he was out, but here the news was kept under wraps, so he assumed Lu Xiwen was just a hypocrite.

In Lu Xiwen's eyes, Rong Hongzhi was a complete idiot; he had already made that assessment.

Lu Xiwen had no patience for this kind of person and planned to leave immediately, but suddenly received a message from Fang Xiao: [I'm cornered. Rong Hongzhi is an idiot. You're safe.]
