Chapter 59 I Broke His Leg

Chapter 59 I Broke His Leg

At 8:30, only a small bedside lamp remained in the room, and Pei Wu fell asleep leaning against the soft pillows.

Lu Xiwen stood by the bed for a long time.

A nameless panic swept over her, but the last time Pei Wu was examined, it was by the most authoritative doctor in the hospital, who only said that she was overworked and had a physical condition, and that she would be fine after resting for a while.

Lu Xiwen leaned down, holding Pei Wu close with one arm and removing the soft pillow with the other, laying Pei Wu flat on the bed. The young man lay on his side with his face slightly turned to the side, the lines from his brow bone to his jaw smooth and soft.

Lu Xiwen found a book and sat on the sofa until dawn.

The auntie we hired was quick and kind-looking. She greeted Lu Xiwen briefly and then got busy in the kitchen. She made simple home-style dishes, but they were clean and hygienic. Having cooked for decades, they had a unique flavor.

Lu Xiwen had a very important meeting today. After quickly finishing his meal, he told the aunt that if Pei Wu hadn't woken up by nine o'clock, she should knock on the door.

At 8:40, Pei Wu pushed open the door and came out by herself.

"Hello, Mr. Pei," the aunt greeted him.

Pei Wu regained consciousness and nodded to the aunt from the second floor: "Hello."

The aunt looked at Pei Wu and thought she was really pretty. She didn't look very old either. At first glance, she looked like an Omgea, but the employer's information showed that she was a Beta.

Breakfast consisted of congee, pickled vegetables, and steamed meat buns. Knowing that Pei Wu was not feeling well, the aunt also prepared a few vegetarian buns, which were arranged on a pretty little plate and looked very appetizing.

"Mr. Lu went to work at seven o'clock, and he asked me to wake you up at nine." The aunt muttered as she tidied the sofa.

"Hmm," Pei Wu replied absentmindedly.

Last night, he and Lu Xiwen were unusually artistic, discussing their favorite books. They then started talking about a suspense classic they both liked. The Alpha's pheromones were gentle, intimate, and soothing. Pei Wu initially just wanted to lean on him for a while, but she soon fell asleep.

When Lu Xiwen woke up today, he was already at work.

Pei Wu also wanted to go to the company, and as soon as the thought crossed his mind, he pressed his temples.

What's going on? Pei Wu was a little wary. No matter how much he liked Lu Xiwen, he shouldn't be clinging to her like this. After a moment, he chuckled helplessly and started eating breakfast.

Lu Xiwen arrived home at seven o'clock in the evening, where Pei Wu was waiting for him.

Beta sat on the sofa, dressed casually at home. Perhaps because she had lost a lot of weight recently, the sweater that had fit her before was now slightly too big, and her collarbone was sunken, making her neck look slender and pale. This made Lu Xiwen feel sorry for her, but also a strange urge to destroy her.

"The bad habits of a top-tier Alpha," Lu Xiwen muttered to himself, before his expression returned to normal.

As night falls, Pei Wu's aura changes. The sharp thorns that were originally neat and orderly all retract and turn into soft little hooks, making Lu Xiwen want to follow her wherever she goes.

In fact, Pei Wu was the same; he was almost completely immersed in sensing Lu Xiwen's pheromones.

After a week, Pei Wu's face finally regained some color, though she was still listless. Lu Xiwen comforted himself, telling himself that she would be fine after a while longer.

The aunt had to take leave that day. She finished cooking dinner and left, saying she would come first thing the next morning.

Lu Xiwen was also attending a banquet, so Pei Wu was the only one there tonight.

He noticed the signs of losing control of his emotions, so he forcefully suppressed them and calmly organized the relevant information on the future development of Jiguang Island. It wasn't for the sake of the marriage that Lu Xiwen mentioned, but because this project involved a huge investment and couldn't be taken lightly.

Pei Wu wasn't hungry and planned to eat at seven. The living room was quiet, with only the "click-clack" of his keyboard audible. When his phone suddenly rang, Pei Wu was startled. Seeing it was an unfamiliar number, a strange feeling washed over him, but he answered anyway, "Hello? Who is this?"

"Xiaowu! Xiaowu, come quick!" Zhang Wenxiu seemed terrified, crying uncontrollably, completely disoriented. "Xiaoming was in a car accident, he was with Xiaozhen..."

"What?!" Pei Wu suddenly stood up.

Twenty minutes later, Pei Wu drove to the hospital, his heart pounding with anxiety as he thought about what Zhang Wenxiu had said on the phone: that Pei Zhen had fractured her lower leg.

The little girl loves beauty and secretly told him that she wanted to be a dance teacher in the future. Although she was not an art student, Pei Wu had made up his mind that as long as Pei Zhen was determined, he would pay for all the expenses in the future. Now that she has broken her leg, he hopes it will not have any impact.

At the entrance of ward 707, Pei Gaosheng stood irritably smoking, seemingly oblivious to the prominent "No Smoking" sign beside him.

Upon seeing Pei Wu, Pei Gaosheng immediately frowned: "Why are you only arriving now?"

Pei Wuli ignored him and rushed into the ward.

The moment Pei Zhen saw Pei Wu, tears instantly streamed down her face. "Brother."

Pei Wu didn't even glance at Pei Ming, whose head was wrapped in gauze, or Zhang Wenxiu, who was standing guard beside him, and went straight to Pei Zhen's side.

The little girl had abrasions on her face, bruises on her arms, and a cast on her leg. Pei Wu stared at the cast for two seconds before asking in a deep voice, "What did the doctor say?"

Pei Zhen knew what Pei Wu was worried about, and shook her head happily: "It's not serious, the doctor can make it back to normal."

Pei Wu finally breathed a sigh of relief.

“Your brother is still there, why don’t you ask him?” Pei Gaosheng said sternly.

Pei Wu turned around and looked coldly at Pei Ming, "I do want to ask you, it's one thing to court death, but why did you bring Pei Zhen along?"

Pei Ming had just escaped death, his heart still pounding. Hearing Pei Wu's words, he was stunned at first, then his eyes instantly reddened. He had always been bossy towards Pei Wu, but now he felt extremely wronged because of her differential treatment. Wasn't this family his? Shouldn't Pei Wu's first concern be him? She kept saying he deserved to die, while protecting Pei Zhen like she was something special.

"Mom and Dad! Look at him!" If it weren't for the circumstances, Pei Ming would have jumped out of bed. He pointed at Pei Wu and cursed, "Isn't it all because of you? Isn't it all because of you?! I'm your own brother, what's wrong with you lending me two nice cars? If your boss hadn't insulted me, would I have even tried to borrow a car? Pei Zhen, that good-for-nothing, she refused to experience something nice. If she hadn't been crying in the passenger seat, would I have had this accident? That jinx..."

Snap!

Before Pei Ming could finish speaking, Pei Wu slapped him hard across the face.

Pei Ming covered his face, stunned.

Zhang Wenxiu immediately screamed, "How could you hit him?!"

Pei Gaosheng: "I've never even hit my own son, so who are you to judge?"

"Shut up," Pei Wu said coldly.

His voice wasn't loud, but it instantly shattered the smoky atmosphere in the room.

"When will you finally wake up after raising your son like this?" Pei Wu said coldly. "You should be glad that Pei Zhen's condition wasn't serious, otherwise I would have broken Pei Ming's legs."

This was no joke. He was clearly a Beta, but Pei Gaosheng didn't even have the courage to refute it. His mouth was agape, and his face was ashen.

Pei Ming gently tugged at Zhang Wenxiu's sleeve.

Zhang Wenxiu stood up. "Xiaowu, come with me."
