Chapter 58: Out of money again?
In Lan Zhe's memory, this was the first time that President Lu had been late for work.
Pei Wu followed behind, still gentle and shrewd, but his face was frighteningly pale.
As soon as Lu Xiwen entered the office, he said, "Give the important work to Lan Zhe, and call the project team over for the rest."
Lan Zhe stood up. "President Lu, Vice President Cheng Tian is in the conference room."
Lu Xiwen: "So early?"
“Go ahead,” Pei Wu said. “It will take me an hour or two to get there.”
Before leaving, Lu Xiwen gave Lan Zhe a look, and Lan Zhe understood.
Pei Wu came over with the USB drive, cleared his throat, and Lan Zhe then noticed his heavy nasal voice, "You have a cold?"
"No, not exactly," Pei Wu said. "It just happens to me when the seasons change."
“This doesn’t seem like a seasonal issue.” Lan Zhe had a sentence stuck in his throat, but he didn’t say it because it was too absurd. Pei Wu’s situation was very similar to his cousin’s when he differentiated. They couldn’t find the specific reason, but he was also depressed and listless, looking like a frost-bitten leaf.
They are also particularly dependent on their families.
When she came in just now, Pei Wu was still tugging at Lu Xiwen's clothes. It was almost an unconscious action, carrying a longing that went far beyond the bounds.
After handing over his work to Lan Zhe, Pei Wu went to the project department in person. He was worried that if he said something wrong in the office and was caught by Lu Xiwen, it would ruin the enthusiasm of his colleagues.
Even with all the rush, it didn't finish until noon.
After eating a quick bite in the cafeteria, Lu Xiwen offered to take Pei Wu back.
"Take a good rest for half a month. I'll hire a housekeeper, so you don't need to cook," Lu Xiwen said in the car.
Pei Wu smiled faintly: "Living like a parasite."
Lu Xiwen thought to himself, "Please, just be a freeloader this once."
As they passed a roast duck restaurant, the rich aroma wafted over. Pei Wu glanced outside, then turned the steering wheel, made a turn, and parked the car.
"Wait, I'll go buy it." Lu Xiwen didn't even need Pei Wu to speak. This guy only ate a couple of bites of roast duck last night, and it was rare for him to be interested in roast duck.
Pei Wu got out of the car and waited. He saw Lu Xiwen wearing sunglasses stepping up the steps. His superior figure still stood out against the mottled and faded background.
There weren't many people, and Lu Xiwen quickly paid and bought his ticket.
Pei Wu was about to get into the car when he suddenly heard someone shout, "Big Brother?!"
The voice was sharp and excited, revealing an irrepressible greed.
Pei Wu turned her head and saw Zhang Wenxiu standing not far away with Pei Ming and Pei Zhen.
Pei Ming was still holding the skewers in his hand. He couldn't wait to shove them into Pei Zhen's hand, and rushed forward, his eyes glued to the car. His face was starting to flush slightly. "Brother, is this your car?"
Pei Wu was in a terrible mood.
It was the kind of awful feeling where the bright sunshine was suddenly interrupted, and the stench was so suffocating that it choked your breath.
Do you think I can afford it?
Pei Ming seemed not to hear. He had just seen Pei Wu get out of the car, and now he was going to get back in. They were friends, after all. It wasn't unreasonable to lend him the car for a few days, was it?
Pei Ming's mouth was practically watering. He bent down to touch the car body, and then heard someone coldly say, "If you get it dirty, it'll cost you 100,000."
The Pei family had just bought a house, and Pei Ming wanted a pair of sneakers that cost five thousand yuan, but even Zhang Wenxiu, who always granted his requests, refused. The price of "one hundred thousand" made Pei Ming shudder, and he immediately stood firm.
Zhang Wenxiu disliked people talking about her son the most. She was about to retort when she looked up at Lu Xiwen, who was clearly an Alpha. She immediately fell silent, gave an awkward smile, and asked Pei Wu, "Xiao Wu, is this your friend?"
“My boss,” Pei Wu said impatiently. “We just got back from a business trip and we still have things to do.”
Pei Ming had returned to Zhang Wenxiu's side and nudged her arm.
Zhang Wenxiu understood what Pei Ming meant, but Pei Wu said that Pei Ming was his superior, the big boss, and someone they couldn't afford to contact or offend.
But Zhang Wenxiu had finally caught Pei Wu, so how could she let her go? Her motherly expression came on in an instant, revealing a hint of pitifulness and grievance, "Xiao Wu, why don't you come home for dinner tonight?"
Pei Wu subconsciously asked, "Out of money again?"
These words made Zhang Wenxiu blush, but then she thought, Pei Wu is her son, isn't it normal for him to bring money home?
So Zhang Wenxiu continued, "Don't do that. It wasn't easy for your mother to raise you. There's no grudge between mother and child. You can't just block your mother every time you have a conflict with your family."
Pei Wu felt a chill in her heart.
If Lu Xiwen wasn't standing next to him, what would he think upon hearing these words?
Ever since Zhang Wenxiu discovered that he had lost control, all she wanted to do was "control" and "make decisions," never caring about how Pei Wu should behave.
As Zhang Wenxiu said this, she cautiously observed Lu Xiwen's expression, considering it a warning to Pei Wu.
To everyone's surprise, Lu Xi chuckled and said, "Excuse me, but is your youngest son still breastfeeding?"
Zhang Wenxiu and Pei Ming's expressions both froze at the same time.
"This car costs 38 million. You want to drive it? Sure, for Pei Wu's sake, I'll rent it to you for 8,000 a day. How does that sound?" Although Lu Xiwen was wearing sunglasses, his gaze was sharp, making Pei Ming feel uncomfortable all over.
Normally, Pei Ming would have jumped up and cursed him long ago. He was a coward who bullied the weak and feared the strong. But Lu Xiwen was too confident. His power and intimidation made him rationally shut up. More importantly, he could feel Lu Xiwen's pheromones. How terrifying!
“No, we won’t open,” Zhang Wenxiu hurriedly said.
"How dare you say you raised Pei Wu?" Lu Xiwen sneered. "You really dare to spout nonsense. The aftereffects of Pei Wu's differentiation dragged on for seven or eight years because the optimal time was missed, and you give your youngest son nothing but the stars and the moon." Thinking of Pei Wu's discomfort these past few days, Lu Xiwen's tone suddenly turned cold. "And the result is a useless thing. You rely on such a thing to carry on the family line? Let me see your family's imperial seal tomorrow."
Pei Wu took the roast duck and pushed Lu Xiwen into the car.
Pei Zhen, who had been quiet all along, gently shook her head at Pei Wu, signaling him to leave quickly.
"I have other things to do at the company," Pei Wu said calmly. "You guys have fun."
This time, Pei Ming didn't cause any trouble. Even after the car had driven quite a distance, he remained huddled next to Zhang Wenxiu.
"Mom, do you think my older brother has made it big?" Pei Ming hadn't recovered from the silent pheromone suppression from Lu Xiwen, and his tone was a little fearful.
Pei Zhen: "Big brother already said that's his boss, it's like you don't understand."
Zhang Wenxiu remained silent, the feeling of weightlessness returning to her mind.
They gave Pei Wu a life, but he was useless, falling ill every few days. As parents, it's normal to choose conservative treatment for the sake of the bigger picture, right? The debt of gratitude for giving birth to and raising a child is greater than heaven. He's studied so much, doesn't he understand that?
The debt a child owes their parents is a debt they can never repay in their lifetime. Without them, Pei Wu wouldn't have survived these past twenty-odd years!
Lu Xiwen felt that he could see that the mother and child would be plagued by bad luck for the next three months.
“Apart from your little sister, none of them are any good,” Lu Xiwen cursed.
Pei Wu didn't refute. While waiting for the traffic light, she peeled the orange that the project manager had given her that morning and gave it to Lu Xi to smell. "I'll make sweet and sour fish tonight."
"No."
Pei Wu felt unwell and Lu Xiwen had little appetite either. "Auntie will come."
