Chapter 19 The Unspeakable Secret

An hour later, Su Ying boarded the next train, heading to the next station, Guangshi.

The railway police officer escorted Su Ying to the entrance of the Guangzhou bus stop, his eyes never leaving her face.

Su Ying felt a little embarrassed by his gaze and coughed to remind him. The train policeman came to his senses and, realizing the stupid thing he had done, immediately turned his face away in embarrassment.

"In recognition of your cooperation in the arrest operation, you have been commended by the higher-ups."

Su Ying didn't think much of it. Her purpose wasn't simply to rid the people of evil; her starting point was Gu Sinian. She felt unworthy of this reward.

"No need. I did what a citizen should do, and anyone would have made the same decision."

The train police officer was very pleased to have met such a conscientious citizen for the first time.

No wonder she's the woman he chose; she's truly exceptional.

"Accept whatever is given to you from above gladly; it will only benefit you and not harm you."

Su Ying seemed to understand what the train police officer meant.

That's true. Given her sensitive background, having received this commendation for her act of bravery will make her life in the countryside much easier.

So she shamelessly accepted it.

"What kind of award? Is it a bonus for acts of bravery?"

The train police officer smiled awkwardly. He hadn't expected Su Ying to be so greedy, with only money in her eyes. But it wasn't money; it was something else that would prevent her from being discriminated against in the countryside.

"Open it and take a look."

Su Ying opened the envelope; inside was a piece of paper. Upon opening it, she discovered it was a certificate of merit for her act of bravery.

Having this would greatly enhance her status as a capitalist's daughter.

"You specially got this for me, didn't you?"

The train police officer scratched his head sheepishly and gave an awkward smile. "How did you know it was me who asked for it for you?"

"Because only you know my identity as a capitalist's daughter, and besides, not many people know my identity as a capitalist's daughter, so who else could it be but you?"

"Now that you've seen through me, I don't even have a chance to maintain any mystery."

"Thank you."

Su Ying was genuinely grateful to him. Only she knew how much she had suffered in her previous life because of her status as a capitalist's daughter.

Those fabricated charges were leveled against her; she suffered so much on the farm.

Everyone targeted her and bullied her. Those who didn't originally intend to bully her, but instead joined in, ended up being bullied themselves.

The label of "capitalist's daughter" caused her a lot of suffering, but unexpectedly, she ended up with a certificate of merit for her act of bravery. When she arrived in Willow Village, no one bullied her because of her status as a capitalist's daughter.

Thinking about her past life, Su Ying was slightly stunned.

"Are there any other rewards from above?"

Su Ying snapped out of her daze. "What? There's more?"

The train police officer chuckled, "That's right, not only are there certificates, but also prizes. Can you guess what they are?"

Su Ying really couldn't think of what the prize was. The other party's hands were empty, so it must be the kind of gift that is small in weight but carries great meaning.

"As a reward, you'll get a soft berth ticket for the whole trip. The journey to the East Market is long, so you won't need to take a hard seat. Just go straight to box number four... Someone has already made arrangements for you there, so just go in."

This is such a great deal, and it even includes a soft sleeper berth.

In this era, even if she were rich, as a capitalist's daughter, she couldn't afford a soft sleeper berth. These were all perks reserved for high-ranking officials. She never imagined that one day she would be able to enjoy such a perk.

By eliminating a potential future threat for Gu Sinian, they were even able to develop other benefits.

These days, only high-ranking officials can afford sleeper tickets on trains, yet she has this privilege.

That's wonderful.

It's still quite a distance from Dongshi, so having a sleeper berth makes things much more comfortable.

Su Ying excitedly grabbed the train police officer's wrist. This was the first time the officer had been so close to a girl. Today, Su Ying had broken her rule and grabbed his wrist countless times.

She must have some feelings for him, right?

My mind filled with all sorts of non-existent things, and my cheeks involuntarily turned red.

Overcome with excitement, Su Ying realized something was wrong and immediately pulled her hand away from the police officer's wrist.

I was careless.

The man's face is so red, could it be that he's taken a liking to her? She has someone she wants to marry, and she can't let him have any hope of marrying her.

"Comrade Su's train ticket shows the destination as Dongshi. What is the exact location? Could you leave me an address? I'll write to you when I have time."

Just as she thought, the train police officer took a liking to her and wanted to pursue the relationship further. But she couldn't give him any hope; that was the best thing for him.

"No. I'm going to the countryside to get married. I already have a fiancé, so... I hope you can understand. You're such a good person, you'll definitely meet someone you like in the future."

The train police officer was shocked by the outcome and felt a lump in his throat, his heart aching, and his eyes reddening slightly.

"Was it your family who forced you? This is a new society now; arranged marriages and silent betrothals are no longer common..."

Su Ying interrupted him, "No. He is the only person I want to marry in my life, and I went to the countryside this time to seek refuge with him."

"You know my family's class background is bad, so going to the countryside is the best option. Dongshi is the best place I can fight for for myself."

“My family didn’t force me. My fiancé and I grew up together, we were childhood sweethearts. But he went to Dongshi for some reason. We are the most suitable couple. Don’t waste your time on me, it’s really not worth it.”

Su Ying spoke so bluntly, his relationship had died before it even began, it would be a lie to say he wasn't sad.
