He turned around in surprise and stared intently at the woman in front of him. Although he was a poor scholar who had little interaction with people except for treating others, he still had some common sense about the capital. This was clearly the only way to the palace, so why would there be any family here?
Thinking of this, he became increasingly flustered. He opened his mouth, but before he could utter a single word, the carriage stopped abruptly at the palace gate.
"Alright, we've arrived home." Yu Qianqian jumped off the carriage and then smiled and turned to Mo Jingnian. Her playful and energetic demeanor seemed completely out of place in this magnificent palace.
For a long while, Mo Jingnian was still sitting in the carriage, dumbfounded, staring at the palace and Yu Qianqian. His heart trembled, and it seemed that everything in his sight also trembled.
He pointed to the palace gate directly in front of him and exclaimed in surprise, his voice trailing off, "You just said... this is your home?"
Yu Qianqian paused slightly, then nodded silently in response.
Upon hearing this, Mo Jingnian's expression became even more serious. "May I ask who you are, young lady?"
"Me? Of course I am..." Before she could finish her sentence, the guards on duty at the palace gate walked towards her and knelt down in front of her.
"This servant greets Your Majesty the Empress!"
Looking down at the kneeling guards, with her hands behind her back, Yu Qianqian straightened her back with feigned seriousness and said, "This young master is a physician I invited. You should go and inform the Imperial Household Department to find him a place to settle down as soon as possible." As she finished speaking, she saw the two guards stand up. She then turned her gaze to Mo Jingnian, a surge of secret joy rising in her heart.
The two guards glanced at Mo Jingnian simultaneously, their expressions differing. Although they knew that allowing someone of unknown origin into the palace was against the rules, the Empress's words were law, and they had to obey even if it meant gritting their teeth.
However, even now, Mo Jingnian is still in a state of shock and panic, and has not heard what Yu Qianqian just said. He was led into the palace in a daze.
Historically, very few men have entered the palace, and Mo Jingnian's unexpected appearance has unsurprisingly thrown the Imperial Household Department into chaos.
As someone passed by the Imperial Household Department, they could hear several eunuchs whispering in a corner from afar: "That pretty boy named Mo Jingnian is obviously no good. He actually used his looks to bewitch the Empress!"
Then a voice of agreement rang out: "Keep your voice down. After all, he is a distinguished guest invited by the Empress. We can't afford to offend him."
Mo Jingnian, who was walking straight toward the gate of the Imperial Household Department, glanced at the distance and saw several eunuchs gathered together whispering. As the two sides closed the distance, the whispers gradually stopped.
He had just stepped into the gate of the Imperial Household Department when, looking up, he was suddenly struck by an elderly man with graying temples reclining in his seat. The man casually raised his eyes and coldly asked in a long, thin voice, "What's your name?"
Born into a scholarly family, Mo Jingnian had never seen such a place before. Although it was broad daylight, there was an unusually gloomy and cold atmosphere here, which made people feel a chill down their spines for no reason. As he slightly raised his eyes, a group of eunuchs walked up from nowhere.
He paused for a moment, then slowly said, "My name is Mo Jingnian." The moment he finished speaking, all the lackeys surrounded the old man, vying to curry favor with him, their demeanor comparable to that of a palace lord.
