Chapter Eighteen: Thrown into the Dungeon

"Chu Mingxi!" Feng Jin exclaimed involuntarily, leaping out of bed.

Turning her head to look around the empty and desolate room, she immediately fell silent. Only then did she realize that what she had just experienced was just a dream. Memories from ten years ago flooded her mind one after another. From the General's Mansion to the Prince Jing's Mansion, although the journey had been difficult, she had ultimately persevered.

She now has the ability to protect herself, and the day when she can clear the name of the Yu family is not far away. As long as she fulfills her parents' last wish, she will be separated from Mu Beichen forever, and these power struggles will no longer be her concern.

Feng Jin suddenly realized that this was not her original room. It was dark all around, and the four walls of copper and iron separated her in an unfamiliar environment, like hell on earth. Cockroaches and rats were everywhere on the cold and damp floor.

Is this a dungeon?

She was actually imprisoned by Mu Beichen!

"Hey! Someone help! Is anyone outside...?"

She shouted several times at the top of her lungs, but the outside remained empty, and no one answered her.

I still remember when Mu Beichen forcibly took me back to the Prince's mansion. He always looked furious, as if he wanted to devour someone alive.

This time, I've really messed up. If I had known he had such a bad temper, I wouldn't have provoked him in the first place.

Hiyuin

At this moment, Mu Beichen was bathing behind the screen of mimosa flowers. A layer of abstinent white, transparent inner garment was soaked in warm water and wrapped half-covered his body, revealing his almost perfect figure. Strands of hair cascaded down like a waterfall over his milky white abs. His every move exuded the grace and charm of a phoenix, making him as alluring as a rare beauty.

Suddenly, hurried footsteps came from outside the door. He slightly raised his eyes, a sharp, cold glint flashing in them, and said in a deep voice, "Xiao Mohan?"

"She's awake?"

The "she" that Mu Beichen was referring to was undoubtedly Feng Jin. Now, just thinking about how Feng Jin chatted and laughed freely with Su Yu at Xingyue Tower makes him grit his teeth in hatred. Now, he feels it is a great shame to mention his wife's name to others. As an eyewitness, Xiao Mohan naturally knows the inside story.

"Yes, the servants guarding the backyard just now heard the Princess knocking, but... without the Prince's permission, they dared not make the decision on their own," Xiao Mohan stammered in reply.

No wonder Mu Beichen was furious. Seeing his woman go to a brothel to drink and make merry with other men, and even embarrass him in public, who could stand that? Xiao Mohan didn't know whether she should tell him the truth. She hesitated for a long time and didn't say the rest of the sentence.

After taking a bath and changing his clothes, Mu Beichen went to the backyard dungeon alone.

With a creak, the door was opened from the outside by a servant, and sunlight instantly illuminated the dark dungeon. Feng Jin was curled up in a small ball in the corner. As the dazzling light came into view, a tall and upright male figure gradually walked towards her.

Seeing her disheveled appearance, Mu Beichen's anger immediately subsided by more than half. He casually flicked his sleeves as if swatting away mosquitoes, and his wide, black robe fluttered gently in the wind, making his deep, dark peach blossom eyes seem as mysterious and unpredictable as the night.

"Awake?" he asked calmly, his gaze fixed on the other person without a trace of emotion.

Having just regained consciousness, Feng Jin felt her teeth chattering. Her mind was completely blank, and she didn't respond even after Mu Beichen finished speaking.

Mu Beichen asked again, "Feng Jin, don't you have anything you want to say to me?"

If Mu Beichen found out that she approached Su Yu by impersonating someone else to avenge him, he would definitely throw her out to fend for herself, right?

Feng Jin sighed inwardly, trying her best to hide her lack of confidence: "Mu Beichen, it's your own fault for overthinking. How can you blame me? The fact that I appeared at Xingyue Tower with Su Yu was purely coincidental."

"It seems... you haven't realized your mistake yet." Mu Beichen's cold gaze fixed on Feng Jin was like a drawn blade: "In that case, you can stay here and continue to keep company with cockroaches and rats!"

After saying that, he turned his back and snorted coldly. Just as he was about to leave, Feng Jin, in a moment of desperation, lunged forward and blocked his path.

She pursed her slightly pale lips, tilted her head back, and gave Mu Beichen an awkward smile: "If I said I was looking for Su Yu for the sake of the Jing Prince's Mansion... would you believe me?"

Mu Beichen just stared at her suspiciously, without saying a word.

Feng Jin's expression darkened, and she felt inexplicably nervous. She felt that if she didn't give Mu Beichen a reasonable explanation soon, she might never have another chance.

“I remember you once said that the banquet in the palace was of great importance to you. Now that the Regent has the power to rule the country, none of the civil and military officials can stand against him. If Your Highness wants to win under the Regent’s nose, Jiang Languo is the last bargaining chip. That’s why I tried to get close to Su Yu for Your Highness.”

Feng Jin spoke extremely quickly, as if afraid that if she was a step too slow, Mu Beichen would lose patience and stop listening.

After a while, Mu Beichen suddenly burst into laughter.

"I didn't expect you to know so much. I underestimated you before." He narrowed his eyes and fixed them on Feng Jin, then slowly walked over. "It's not difficult for me to believe you, unless you can guarantee that you will never go to see Su Yu behind my back."

Looking up at the man bending down towards her, Feng Jin nodded frantically, "Okay...okay, I promise you."

Hearing this, Mu Beichen nodded in satisfaction, then glanced meaningfully at the door. Just as he was about to get up, Feng Jin suddenly pounced on him and wrapped her legs around his.

"Your Highness, um... my leg hurts."

Feng Jin, supporting her legs which were numb from the cold, almost burst into tears.

Mu Beichen looked at her and couldn't help but laugh and cry. Her current gentle and weak appearance was completely different from the woman in Xingyue Tower who had threatened him with her life.

He shook his head helplessly and chuckled, then slowly bent down to let Feng Jin press against his back before walking straight out of the dungeon.

Feng Jin slept the whole way, and finally followed Mu Beichen to Feiyu Courtyard.

The world was shrouded in a misty twilight. On this night, a gentle breeze blew and the moonlight was as bright as water.

A warm and comfortable current gradually surged up from beneath her. Feng Jin rubbed her sleepy eyes and a simple yet elegant room came into view. Famous paintings, antiques, exotic flowers and plants, as well as musical instruments such as guqin, flute and xiao, were all neatly arranged around her.

This was her first time visiting the Flying Feather Academy, and everything felt new and exciting to her.

It seems that the owner of this room is a person who pays attention to details. From the decoration to the layout, almost every little detail of the room is flawless.
