Chapter Sixty-Four: Lingering Feelings

Upon returning to the Jing Prince's residence, Mu Beichen quickly learned that Su Ruan had gone to see Feng Jin. He rushed to Ningxiang Pavilion as soon as he returned from court.

Upon entering, he saw Su Ruan tidying her hair at her dressing table. He tried his best to suppress the surging emotions welling up inside him, and to avoid showing his excitement in front of Su Ruan. He pretended to be calm and said, "Princess, I heard you just returned from your trip..."

Su Ruan slowly got up and walked straight to Mu Beichen. She spoke softly and gently: "I just went to see Sister Feng Jin. She is living a very hard life now, living alone in the wilderness. I tried to persuade her for a long time, and I almost ran out of saliva, but it was no use. Perhaps she is still upset about what happened between her and the Prince."

At this point, Mu Beichen's handsome face immediately darkened. His deep, captivating peach blossom eyes turned as cold as ice as he stared intently out the window at the end of the long corridor, remaining silent for a long time.

After a long pause, Su Ruan suddenly spoke first: "Your Highness, please bring her back yourself. As long as you can reconcile, I am willing to give up my position as your principal wife."

Upon hearing this, Mu Beichen immediately turned his head to her, his brows furrowed slightly, and he looked extremely embarrassed: "But... this is too unfair to you."

With her gaze fixed on him, and seeing his expression gradually change because of her words, Su Ruan felt a jolt in her heart, an unprecedented feeling of restlessness reaching the depths of her soul.

She forced a smile: "As long as Your Highness holds a place for me, Su Ruan, in your heart, I can disregard all matters of status and position."

"Su Ruan, thank you for your understanding and support. I will definitely make it up to you in the future." Mu Beichen nodded to Su Ruan with satisfaction. After saying this, he turned and left Ningxiang Pavilion, already having other plans in mind.

After leaving Ningxiang Pavilion, Mu Beichen went straight out of the mansion without stopping. Following Su Ruan's instructions, he quickly found the secluded valley where Feng Jin lived in seclusion.

Alone, I ventured deep into the forest, following a winding path until I reached the end. There, on the other side of a shimmering lake, stood a petite and delicate figure. Her snow-white robes fluttered in the wind, making her appear from afar like a goddess descending to earth.

He recognized Feng Jin at a glance and rushed over without hesitation. Before he even arrived, her voice, as clear as shattered jade, reached his ears: "Ah Jin, you really are here!"

Upon hearing the sound, Feng Jin turned around abruptly, looking at him with a stunned expression. His long, straight, jet-black hair was half-draped over his shoulders, and his exquisite and beautiful face remained unchanged. He was still wearing that dark black robe with wild goose motifs, and his tall and straight figure stood firmly in front of her. Everything seemed like a dream.

Undeniably, at this moment, she was so excited that she couldn't control her emotions and almost wanted to rush up and hug him. Over the past few days, her longing for him had far outweighed her hatred.

However, whenever she saw Mu Beichen, she would immediately think of the grand wedding he and Su Ruan held in the capital that shocked the world. She turned her head and glared at him with annoyance: "What are you doing here?"

With his arms hanging at his sides, his hands slowly clenched into fists beneath his sleeves. Mu Beichen frowned slightly, cautiously raising his eyes to look at her, and said softly, "The weather has turned cold recently, and this secluded valley is not suitable for long-term stays. I came here specifically to take you home."

Feng Jin didn't even bother to look at him, deliberately turning her head away and letting out a cold snort: "Thank you for your concern, but I'm used to peace and quiet here, and I don't want to go to those crowded and noisy places to pollute my eyes."

"I remember every time we had a fight, you would act like this, stubbornly holding a grudge and forcing me to back down before you would give in," Mu Beichen said hastily, speaking rapidly, "Since you left the palace these past few days, I've been thinking about you constantly. I haven't been able to eat or sleep properly. Now, everything is a mess, both at court and at home..."

Suddenly, she snapped at him, cutting off his endless rant: "Mu Beichen, you're still telling me how sad and wronged you are? You've probably forgotten who caused my current predicament!"

“I know, I know…it’s all my fault. But no matter what, I don’t want you to keep hurting yourself because of this…Ah Jin, as long as you’re willing to come with me, I promise you, no matter what happens in the future, I will discuss it with you in advance and get your consent before deciding whether to do it or not. What do you think?”

Mu Beichen almost forced himself to suppress his anger before he could say those words. He stared intently at her increasingly cold face, a chilling light appearing in his eyes. He suddenly realized that she was completely different from the person who had been so considerate and understanding of him ten years ago.

"Actually, you don't need to compromise like this for my sake... I have never minded that you have many wives and concubines, because I know that every royal family will inevitably face this day. I have never asked you to remain chaste for me alone. What I care about most is this betrayal and deception right in front of me."

As she finished speaking, she let out a soft sigh, and the melancholy in her eyes became even more apparent.

Mu Beichen slowly turned around, gazing at the fallen leaves scattered on the ground. A faint sense of loss appeared in his eyes as he patiently explained, "Marrying Su Ruan is not just a temporary measure, but also for your sake. If I don't agree to the marriage alliance, I won't be able to contend with the Regent, nor will I be able to clear your name. This matter has always been a worry in my heart... Ah Jin, can you understand my good intentions?"

His unusually heavy tone, his furrowed brows, and his nonchalant gestures clearly indicated that he had exhausted his last bit of patience. She felt as if if she didn't seize the opportunity to open her heart now, she would never have such a chance again.

Before he could finish speaking, Feng Jin suddenly hugged him from behind, pressing her cheek against his back. Her soft, delicate voice seemed to be a murmur: "Achen, I'm willing to take another gamble, for myself and for us, betting that your heart will always remain steadfastly for me. Please, don't let me lose this time..."

At this moment, Mu Beichen's entire body was firmly locked in her arms. His heart warmed, and he took the opportunity to grasp her soft, jade-like fingers. He suddenly turned around and pulled that small figure into his arms, holding her tightly. His wide robe and sleeves fluttered wildly in the wind, completely enveloping her.

His lips were warm and smooth like jade: "I won't let you lose, because... I was born for you, and my life is destined to be entangled with you forever."
