Chapter 53 You want to see me, right?
Shen Mi looked at Dan Heng, who had an exaggeratedly large mustache, and couldn't help but laugh out loud.
Why are you dressed like that?
Dan Heng raised his hand and touched the fake beard he had bought at a high price, which the vendor claimed was "absolutely unrecognizable," and asked in confusion, "Is it strange? Is there something I didn't stick on properly?"
Shen Mi shook his head, and after a moment, said, "It's not that it wasn't glued on properly, it's just that your temperament is too out of place."
"Look around the street. Every single one of those men with such long beards is either bulging their bellies, walking with a swaying gait, and having murky eyes. Or they're the kind of shopkeepers with an abacus and a shrewish smile. And you—"
Shen Mi circled around Dan Heng, scrutinizing him from head to toe: "Handsome features, straight back, dashing spirit, radiant appearance, he's just too good to be true to his character."
"Oh?" Dan Heng raised an eyebrow in delight upon hearing this, then suddenly changed the subject, saying to Chen Mi, "Then can I take that as—you're praising me?"
Shen Mi looked up and saw that Dan Heng was neither blushing nor flustered, his pale green eyes staring straight at her, as if they could see right into her heart.
"I...I, although I really don't want to do as you wish, I have to admit that Danheng, you are indeed my type."
After speaking, Shen Mi turned her head away, too embarrassed to look at him.
Hearing the extremely satisfactory reply, Dan Heng couldn't hide the joy in his eyes. He clenched his right fist, coughed twice to distract himself, and used his fist to cover his uncontrollable laughter.
"It is my greatest honor." He spoke slightly quickly, with a rising intonation at the end.
The torrential rain severed their connection with the world, and everything seemed to return to the world's original origin: love and life. There was no need to consider any other superfluous factors, no need to care about who they were; everything was governed by "what I want."
Shen Mi looked up and saw that half of Dan Heng's body was sticking out of the eaves, so he took two steps forward, grabbed his hand, and took a few steps back.
The warm, soft touch, along with the shape of the calluses on my palms, was completely different from my hands that were wet from the rain.
"Come in a little, be careful not to get wet."
After he finished speaking, Shen Mi noticed a large patch of raindrops on his left shoulder, which was faintly reflecting light. She had almost mistaken them for black pearls and thought he had bought such a flashy outfit somewhere.
So I reached out and patted him on the shoulder.
Okay.
Before she could finish speaking, Dan Heng's hand was already on her cheek: "You're one to talk, but you're getting soaked yourself."
Warm fingers brushed against her face, the gentle touch felt through her skin. The fingers gently brushed through the hair that clung to her cheeks and carefully placed it behind her ear.
“Your hair is all wet,” Danheng said.
The itchy sensation, like being struck by lightning, climbed up Chen Mi's spine, causing him to tremble slightly.
The next second, Danheng placed his hands on her face, his voice following closely: "Are you cold?"
A continuous warmth emanated from my palms, like the warm sun on a snowy day—not intense, but enough.
Dan Heng remained motionless for a while, until Shen Mi's face turned rosy, before reluctantly letting go of her hand.
Before leaving, he deliberately pretended to accidentally rub it with his little finger; the soft, smooth, and comfortable feel was irresistible.
Shen Mi blushed and retorted, "Hey! You can't just eat and take things like that!"
Gently rubbing the spot where his fingertips had brushed against her, Shen Mi belatedly realized that what she had just said, seemingly a reprimand, sounded like indulgence in his words.
Shen Mi glanced at Dan Heng subconsciously, and sure enough, the other party was looking at her with a smile, neither denying nor admitting the behavior she accused.
Just as you think. Shen Mi seemed to hear Dan Heng's inner thoughts.
The roof tiles above dripped softly. Danheng reached out and touched the rain outside. Transparent raindrops fell on his well-defined fingers, the coolness of which felt like the temperature of her cheek.
Withdrawing his hand, Dan Heng gazed at the curtain of rain and sighed thoughtfully, "The light rain dampens my handkerchief, and the torrents splash from my mat."
With such heavy rain, Danheng thought of how Shen Mi had just rushed into the rain and wondered what had made her so anxious.
Dan Heng frowned and asked, "I forgot to ask, why did you rush out in the pouring rain just now?"
Upon hearing this, Shen Mi jumped up in a panic: "You saw me?! Then why didn't you call me? I was about to run back to get my phone to contact you."
Upon hearing this, Dan Heng's brows relaxed. He understood the cause and effect, and knew the reason behind her actions. He felt an inexplicable joy welling up in his heart.
It tasted as sweet as candy.
A thousand thoughts raced through his mind, but he forced himself to appear nonchalant. Dan Heng explained, "I was about ten meters away from you at the time. It was raining, noisy, and the road was slippery. Plus, you didn't have an umbrella. For your safety, I thought I should come find you. I just didn't expect..."
At the end, Dan Heng paused for two seconds, his gaze returning to Chen Mi, his words intentionally guiding her to think in a specific direction.
Dan Heng continued, "I just didn't expect you to be like that..." He blushed as he finished speaking.
Seeing his hesitant expression, Shen Mi guessed what he was going to say next.
Dan Heng was indifferent to worldly desires and rarely revealed his inner thoughts. A corner of Chen Mi's hidden heart was lifted, and her fair face flushed red. She felt indignant and prepared to retaliate. "So what? Tell me, why did you suddenly stop talking?"
Shen Mi was certain that Dan Heng wouldn't speak, so he raised his head and deliberately said something provocative.
Dan Heng, however, did not silently allow her to spout nonsense as she had imagined. He simply stared intently at Chen Mi, his eyes darting about like the rippling blue waves of a deep autumn pool, making it impossible to discern his next move.
Are you sure you want me to say it?
Dan Heng walked step by step toward Chen Mi. In stark contrast to his usual calm demeanor, he exuded an undeniable sense of oppression, like a storm brewing, with a thunderous aura hidden in his silence.
Shen Mi subconsciously took a step back, but his back was already pressed against the wall, with nowhere left to retreat.
Dan Heng stopped in front of her, only an arm's length away, his gaze calm and almost focused, and said in a low voice:
"Chen Mi, you want to see me, you really, really want to."
As soon as he finished speaking, it seemed as if even the air itself paused.
Shen Mi held her breath, speechless for a moment. She had wanted to force him to speak, but she hadn't expected him to actually do it. Without reservation, without hesitation, so direct, even... leaving no room for escape.
“Now,” Danheng leaned closer, “do you want me to continue?”
His breath brushed against her ear, low and warm, like igniting a spark in her heart. Shen Mi stared at him, as if frozen in place, her heart quietly losing its rhythm.
"You discovered it?"
Dan Heng looked at her quietly for a long time before saying, "I've been watching you all along."
What I understand is what you understand; what you understand is what I know.
Shen Mi finally understood why a simple "Marry me" during a marriage proposal could make the other person overjoyed and cry tears of happiness. It was because behind those words was not just a request, but a silent gaze and deep affection accumulated over many years.
Indeed, countless times, unseen by her, she watched alone as a figure destined to move forward.
Shen Mi was speechless. She never imagined that she would receive two confessions in just two days. She wouldn't even dare to dream of such a thing, but it had actually happened. So... should she respond?
[Don't agree, Host! If you do, the timeline will determine that you chose Dan Heng, the other two male leads' conquest points will disappear, and you'll never be able to return to the real world!]
The system notification echoed in his ear again; it always seemed to appear at a crucial moment to remind him. This strange sense of familiarity made Chen Mi involuntarily recall the game's storyline.
What the system says, you can't ignore. So how can we maintain this precious relationship without hurting Danheng?
[System, do you have any solutions?]
I cannot provide the answer; the solution lies with you.
I'm saying this not because I want you to respond to me.
Danheng's voice was deep and steady, as if it came from a very far place, or as if a heavy burden that had been pressing on his heart for a long time had finally been spoken.
“I just wanted to put your mind at ease.” He lowered his eyes gently, his long eyelashes casting a faint shadow. “I’ve been fighting against the past all along—those things you can’t see, those things that are deep in my memory and that pull me back from time to time.”
He raised his head, his eyes as calm as the deep sea, yet concealing a silent persistence: "They are like shadows, entangled with me, trying to devour me... but I have not given up, and I will not give up."
"If one day, when the sun shines and hibernation awakens, and the blade is pierced and the threads are untied, will you answer me again?"
Shen Mi nodded subconsciously, then covered his mouth in alarm the next second, worried that he might instinctively make some promise that would lead the outcome in an unpredictable direction.
Fortunately, the system didn't issue any warnings. It seems this is the solution; I guess I stumbled upon the right path in Dan Heng's account.
The system, out of her sight, suddenly realized something and made a record of it.
Now that we've discussed the important matters, let's talk about the less important ones.
Shen Mi asked him why he hadn't replied to her messages. Dan Heng tilted his head guiltily and said that he had encountered some problems that he couldn't solve for the time being, and that his thinking was too limited. He not only got himself into trouble, but almost pushed her further and further away. He only realized this after seeing her today.
Simple and clear, easy to understand, just like Danheng's usual style.
"Then how did you get out of the desolate planet? What about Savare? Is she alright?" Thinking of his old friend, Shen Mi was eager to know how she was doing.
"Savare is doing well, she has kept your instructions in mind, and she has gained quite a bit of weight recently. As for why I left the desolate planet, that's a long story, but just assume I resigned."
"Resigned? Where are you living now? Has anyone seen you in Luofu?"
Chen Mi looked around, searching for anyone suspicious who might be watching them.
Dan Heng pulled Shen Mi back, his face somewhat unnatural. The exile order had finally been discovered by her.
Speaking of exile, Dan Heng smiled bitterly and said, "Past events are all due to a single thought."
Danheng was afraid she would ask why he was exiled, so he quickly brushed it off and replied hastily, "Don't worry, no one has found out. But you have to keep it a secret from Jingyuan."
Shen Mi nodded. "Okay."
“I’ll be staying at Suiyuan during this time. It’s a remote, gloomy place, completely deserted. If you need anything, you can come find me there,” Danheng said.
"good."
"The rain is about to stop, someone is coming to pick you up." Dan Heng looked at the figure in the distance, his smile fading, his expression indifferent.
"Coming to pick me up?" Shen Mi turned around in confusion, following his gaze, and saw a white figure standing calmly at the entrance of the driving school courtyard, holding an oil-yellow umbrella.
It is Jingyuan.
Shen Mi turned around, wanting to say goodbye to Dan Heng, but found that there was no one behind him.
Is he really leaving already? Without even saying goodbye. Shen Mi felt a pang of sadness, but then she thought that he was in the same place as her, and as long as he was safe and sound, wasn't that enough?
I just didn't say goodbye, it's nothing.
Shen Mi whispered to the air, "See you later."
