Chapter 45 Farewell (Part 5): Final Battle Against the Queen Insect's Clone
The sky visibly darkened, and the five people huddled together tightly. Not knowing how long the battle would last, they put away their mechs and, instead of using energy blocks, used wood as fuel for lighting and warmth.
Xu Lingzhao leaned against a tree, her eyes gleaming with a faint golden light. She stared into the unfathomable depths of the forest, where darkness fell exceptionally quickly. She had encountered almost no attacks from the insectoid race along the way. The calmer the place, the more turbulent the currents. A white object drifted down onto her eyelashes.
What is this? She frowned slightly, and touched her eyelashes with her fingertips. A cool sensation spread from her fingertips. Snowflakes? Xu Lingzhao raised her head and looked in the light of the personal terminal. Her vision was filled with dense snowflakes.
The commander of a team stared at the snowflakes in her hand. The data showed that this was a planet with spring all year round, and for the past hundred years there had only been spring. But the sudden snowflakes... She subconsciously nudged the soldier next to her—her most trusted comrade-in-arms, but she didn't move.
The commander turned around in confusion. She looked at the soldier's face, her gaze blank, her eyes fixed on the front. Following her gaze, she saw a moving red flower. She frowned, trying to see more clearly, when a sharp pain shot through her chest, and blood gushed from her mouth. She looked down and saw her comrade had plunged a dagger into her heart.
Her eyes widened in disbelief. She covered the cold hand with her own, pulled out the dagger, and warm blood splattered on the ground, quickly being absorbed by the lush green grass. A dizzying sensation followed, and she struggled to open her eyes to look at the red flower. It seemed to have transformed into a small snake, drawing ever closer to her.
A second before she lost consciousness, it burrowed into her forehead.
A piercing alarm sounded in her ears. Oh, she was going to die. The battle hadn't even truly begun, yet her soul would be forever buried here. The lone soldier who attacked her was swiftly beheaded, and his head rolled to the side of her hand.
This was the last scene she experienced.
The ringing in her ears plunged her into darkness.
The next second, her body stood up in a strange posture, her eyes were gray and white, and there was a red snake between her eyebrows. It flicked its tongue and directed the dead commander to draw his gun and point it at his comrades.
The still-conscious Planetary Army soldiers quickly entered their mechs, almost instantly killing their once close comrades. The situation became critical as the darkness deepened, the snow intensified, and the infected Planetary Army soldiers joined the fight.
Xu Lingzhao looked at the planetary army caught in the chaos. The Queen was so cunning. She closed her eyes and released a large amount of mental power, partially controlling the somewhat panicked planetary army. She calmed and controlled them, and they could not stay in one place. Xu Lingzhao tried to retreat, but black mist filled the surroundings.
There was no way out! The surrounding scenery changed rapidly, and it was impossible to tell where the marked path was. Xu Lingzhao used his physical mental power to cut off the mental bodies corrupted by the Zerg, but their numbers kept increasing.
"Roar—" The roar of the Zerg came, and pairs of eyes glowing red appeared and disappeared in the black mist. The scene became even more chaotic. Cannon fire flew, and the screams of the planetary army and the roars of the Zerg were mixed together, which stimulated Xu Lingzhao's spirit.
Song Shuci stood behind her, and she could feel her body trembling slightly and the fear emanating from the depths of her mind.

She released her mecha, entered the cockpit, and turned on the mecha's night light. Fortunately, the mecha could easily deal with some of the smaller insectoids.
The situation wasn't that critical yet. After glancing in the direction where Xu Lingzhao had disappeared, she threw herself into the battle, silently praying in her heart, "Commander-in-Chief, you must be safe."
Xu Lingzhao walked through the black fog, her eyes firm and without the slightest fear. She made her way through without any obstacles. A small red snake appeared in her sight, slowly flicking its tongue and its eyes flashing red light.
She stopped, picked up the pistol tucked in her waistband, and without hesitation aimed at its head and shot. The snake's head was shattered, and black blood flowed onto the ground. But after a while, a cloud of black mist spread from the snake's corpse.
The snake was gone, replaced by a black butterfly. It fluttered its light wings and flew to Xu Lingzhao's front, suddenly approaching and then pulling away as if in a provocation.
"Are you that naive?" A cold voice rang out in the empty woods.
"I've been waiting for you for a long time." A clear female voice echoed in Xu Lingzhao's ears, and she felt a breath on her shoulder. "You are the one who ran away."
Xu Lingzhao tried to turn away from the contact, but her shoulders were pressed down by a pair of hands. "You must have had a hard time finding me, right? Let me think... Hmm—you went back to the past."
"It's a pity that Passfia is the only surviving planet. Do you think I can still find it?" He pressed his face close to Xu Lingzhao's cheek, his expression and tone unreadable despite the hazy face, which was full of arrogance and disdain.
The black mist almost completely enveloped Xu Lingzhao, but she made no move. "Before you find it, I will kill you first."
"Oh? Are you too arrogant, or are you completely unaware of my power?" He chuckled softly. "Humans are the most vulnerable race I have ever seen, for example—"
Xu Lingzhao let out a muffled groan. She looked down and saw that a fair hand had appeared out of her heart, with her beating golden heart in the palm and golden blood flowing down.
“I could kill you so easily right now.” His hand gripped her heart, and in her sight, his fingers crushed it with a slight pressure.
He abruptly pulled his hand away, his tone slightly puzzled, "Oh, I forgot, you're not just a human, you're a bee. Quickly conjure up another body." His voice was malicious, and seeing that Xu Lingzhao was unmoved, he pushed her body, just before touching her shoulder.
Xu Lingzhao turned around and restrained the flailing hand. "Do you think I don't have absolute confidence that I would come to find you?" This time, she moved closer to His face. Although she couldn't see His face clearly, she could see the doubt in the blurry face.
The golden blood entered His skin at a visible speed, and the intense burning sensation spread throughout His body. As merely a fragment of the Insect Mother, He was unable to pull His hand away from the hand of a half-human, even one who had lost his heart. A tidal wave of golden spiritual power broke through the black mist enveloping Xu Lingzhao.
The situation reversed, and a strong golden light illuminated the dark forest. Xu Lingzhao's eyes were fixed on what was in front of him. "Listen, this is just the beginning. I will find you bit by bit until I kill you completely."
Her eyes blazed with intense light as her mental energy invaded His brain, transforming into tangible blades that densely enveloped the violently struggling man.
Xu Lingzhao's eyes were bloodshot, and her spiritual power was surging wildly within her sea of consciousness, which was shrouded in thick black mist. In order to break through, Xu Lingzhao used the power of her origin.
She grabbed His neck. "Listen, I will become your nightmare." As soon as she finished speaking, an extremely powerful mental force invaded His mind and easily tore His mind apart. "In order to find you, I have to sacrifice my soldiers. You will be buried with them."
Golden light emanated from His body, illuminating half the sky. He ceased struggling, and His entire body, except for his neck and head, had vanished.
Xu Lingzhao stood still, his empty heart healing at a visible speed. The black mist dissipated, the swirling snow stopped abruptly, and various sounds appeared in Xu Lingzhao's ears: the rustling of leaves and the chirping of insects.
She carried His head back the way she came with one hand. Song Shuci was wiping the blood off her face. She looked at the commander who had returned safely and smiled. The Zerg had lost its ability to act independently and stopped attacking. The surrounding scene returned to how it had been when they arrived.
A beam of light shone through the clouds onto Xu Lingzhao's face. She looked up and saw that it was dawn.
Communication was restored, and everyone rested where they were. Xu Lingzhao handed His head to Song Shuci, saying, "Put it away carefully." Song Shuci looked at the head, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't make out His face.
The starship appeared above the ranks. Xu Lingzhao stood in the command room. Everyone had already left the planet. The jarring countdown continued. On the large screen in the command room, the planet was precisely destroyed by a nuclear weapon.
This meant that He in this dimension was completely dead. This scene was broadcast live across the entire StarNet, and cheers resounded throughout the Federation.
Xu Lingzhao's prestige soared to unprecedented heights.
Lu Qianxue let out a breath and relaxed her body, leaning back. During the moment of losing contact, she felt her breath catch in her throat, and every minute and every second of waiting was so agonizing.
However, she succeeded!
Jin Chenyu handed her a glass of water and looked at the light screen. "It's over. The Zerg are going to disappear from this world." He placed his hand on Lu Qianxue's shoulder. "You don't have to work so hard anymore."
The starship did not return directly to the Federation but continued its journey through space. It was only by sealing the cosmic rift that the Zerg were truly isolated. Xu Lingzhao did not have time to rest and walked quickly down the corridor. She wanted to see her Omega.
Nothing is more comforting than a partner's pheromones.
