Chapter 56 Castile (Part 7) Encounter

Chapter 56 Castile (Part 7) Encounter

Xu Lingzhao placed her in a relatively safe place, and the accompanying military medics immediately surrounded her. Seeing this, she continued to fight. While running, Xu Lingzhao subconsciously looked at the carriage. Her pupils contracted. The carriage had been overturned, and the roof was lying on the ground in pieces. There seemed to be a person under the carriage.

But a sharp claw suddenly appeared, intending to smash Xu Lingzhao into mincemeat. She quickly ducked to avoid it. The Stone Ridge Beast opened its blood-red maw and roared at her. It had its sights on her. In the struggle between it chasing and taking her, Xu Lingzhao discovered that she could briefly stop its movements, but she could not kill it with her mental power.

Even during those few seconds of pause, she couldn't pierce its vitals with her sword. Just when she was at her wit's end, Xu Lingzhao heard someone say, "Fall down!" She instinctively fell down and rolled away from the stone-ridged beast. A huge explosion rang out, and Xu Lingzhao used her hand to pull the dry grass out of its mouth.

A cannon appeared in Xu Lingzhao's sight. One of the Stone Ridge Beast's claws was blasted off. Now was the time. Xu Lingzhao stood up and focused her attention. Her powerful mental energy concentrated at this moment. The Stone Ridge Beast let out a painful howl. It tried to retreat, but Xu Lingzhao would not let it go.

With the knight as witness, Xu Lingzhao used his mental power to kill an A-level Zerg by blowing its head off. Yu Yu reacted the fastest; she climbed onto its belly, dug out the green crystal core, and ran happily towards Xu Lingzhao.

Seeing this, the other Zerg retreated. Xu Lingzhao hadn't even had time to rest before running towards the overturned carriage. The knights returned to their own ranks, and no one paid any attention to the carriage.

Besides Xu Lingzhao, there was also Yu Yu who came along.

The two of them worked together to lift the carriage over. Xu Lingzhao knelt down and patted the unconscious servant awake. Xiao Yuan suddenly woke up and grabbed Xu Lingzhao's sleeve excitedly. Tears streamed down his face unexpectedly. "Sir Knight, please save the lord! He... he's been captured by the insectoids!"

These words stunned the two Alphas present. Xu Lingzhao stood up and looked around. Not far away, two carriages were surrounded by knights. What to do, what to do? She silently prayed to herself. Losing a concubine could very likely implicate the entire knightly order. She convinced herself that this was why she was inexplicably worried about a stranger.

She calmed down, and her slightly hurried breathing subsided. She held her breath and focused her attention, certain that she could sense his location now as well.

When Xu Lingzhao opened her eyes again, the panic in her eyes was gone. She patted Yu Yu's shoulder and said, "I'm going to find him. Can you talk to the Knight Commander for me?"

Yu Yu watched her leave the group alone, filled with awe. She was so great; this was a true knight. Not long after Xu Lingzhao left, Lorraine's wedding procession finally realized that one of the concubines was missing. They hurriedly went to Xiao Yuan to ask her what was wrong. Seeing Xiao Yuan's pitiful appearance, Yu Yu answered quickly, "She was captured by the insectoids while fighting the Stone Ridge Beasts, but Xu Lingzhao has already gone to find her."

This answer made the person who came to inquire frown. He didn't say much, but simply reported the situation to the envoy. After a brief moment of thought, he said, "Since Commander Feng has already sent people to search, the rest of you should stay where you are and rest." The knights breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this news, as the successive battles had left them exhausted.

If one were to leave the main force to search in a situation where survival is virtually impossible, one would inevitably find oneself in danger.

Xu Lingzhao's knight's uniform was somewhat tattered, especially with a section of the sleeve hanging down, revealing her fair forearm. A small bundle was hanging on her forearm, which the servant had given her before she left. She glanced at it briefly and saw that it contained a set of clothes and a small shawl.

The boots crunched on the mud, as if sensing the direction of the concubine. Xu Lingzhao chuckled, laughing at his own recklessness and the inexplicable impulse in his heart.

A forest appeared before her. Even from the outside, she could clearly feel a chill, let alone her husband. Holding her sword, she stepped inside without hesitation. That inexplicable feeling told her that he was still alive.

Xu Lingzhao looked at the suspicious slime on the ground, which was a trace left by the tentacles. She released her mental energy to keep the other insects away. After walking a short distance, Xu Lingzhao found a nest of tentacles. She gathered her mental energy and lit a fire flare for illumination.

Chu Jing was terrified. He covered his face with his hands, trying his best to keep the slime out of his mouth and nose. Maybe if he lived a little longer, someone would come to save him. Tears streamed down his face. Fear enveloped him. The knight was fighting the insectoids. Who would notice him?

A sense of pessimism welled up inside him. Maybe he should just let go of her hand. Suffocation shouldn't be so painful, right? Chu Jing's entire body was almost completely surrounded by the slime of the worms. As time went on and the air became increasingly thin, he felt like he couldn't breathe even without letting go of her hand.

He could feel something sharp piercing through the slime, seemingly searching for something. "Hiss—ah!" he cried out in pain as the sharp object pierced his forearm. It hurt so much, so much. Just as he was about to despair, he heard the footsteps of a knight, followed by the sound of something rolling on the ground.

Xu Lingzhao dropped her sword and walked up to her husband. Looking at him, who was completely wrapped up, she felt a pang of panic. She raised her hand and forcefully tore off the film of mucus. Before her was her husband breathing heavily. This was the first time she had seen him. His skin was like porcelain, and his pink lips were slightly parted. Because he was breathing so rapidly, even the tip of his pink tongue was faintly visible. His eyes were beautiful, wet, and tears were still hanging on his eyelashes, about to fall. He looked so pitiful.

Chu Jingze met the gaze of the knight before him. The feeling of being reborn made him breathless. Before he could catch his breath, a beautiful face appeared before him. There was a small mole at the corner of her eye, and her eyes were a unique gold color. There were a few drops of blood on her fair skin. In that instant, Chu Jingze understood that only the knight before him knew that he had been abducted by the insectoid race.

She was the only one who cared about him and was willing to come to him alone.

Chu Jing felt his heart pounding. All his fear and apprehension vanished in that instant. In the not-so-spacious space, a female Alpha knelt before him on one knee. In her captivating eyes, there was concern for him.

The two stared at each other for a long time before Xu Lingzhao was the first to look away. She felt her cheeks getting slightly hot and cursed herself inwardly for not being able to control herself. He was her mother's concubine, but then she thought, so what if he was a concubine? Everything that belonged to her mother would belong to her.

Xu Lingzhao felt like she was bewitched. She coughed lightly and spoke involuntarily, "I brought you some clothes, change into them." Chu Jingze then noticed that his smooth, fair shoulders were exposed. He quickly covered them, his cheeks flushing red. He explained, "It was...it was an accidental cut."

"Hmm..." Xu Lingzhao placed the clothes in front of him, left him the flare for lighting, got up and walked to the cave entrance. Before leaving, he said to him, "I'll hold the fort for you at the cave entrance, don't be afraid."

Leaning against the cave wall, Xu Lingzhao looked at the sunset on the horizon. It was getting dark. She thought to herself that she had originally planned to take her concubine back to the camp soon, but at this moment she became vigilant. The insectoids were extremely active at night. If she encountered a swarm of A-level insectoids, then this trip would really be a one-way trip. And her mental power told her that the number of insectoids near the cave had increased dramatically.

She lowered her eyes. It seemed she would have to stay with her mother's concubine today. She heard the rustling sound of him dressing. Xu Lingzhao put her hand to her heart. Why did she have such a strange feeling? Even though it was their first meeting, it felt like they had met many times before, as if they were very familiar with each other.

"Tsk." She made a slightly annoyed sound. The person inside was her mother's concubine, someone she should hate. But the next second, she felt that he was just a tool for a political marriage and had never even seen the queen. Moreover, his fate would not be any better than her father's.

After a long internal struggle, Xu Lingzhao decided that he had not hurt her father, who was also a pitiful person. In their recent eye contact, Xu Lingzhao could tell that he was not very old and, like himself, just someone who was not loved by his family.

"I...I'm changed." A timid voice sounded behind her. His voice was so soft, Xu Lingzhao thought to herself. She turned around and walked inside. The person in front of her had messy hair from changing clothes, a dirty face, and wet, deer-like eyes looking at Xu Lingzhao.

Xu Lingzhao noticed his slightly wrinkled lips. She was about an arm's length away from him, but the cave wasn't high enough, so she had to bend down slightly to look him in the eye. "Are you thirsty?"

Chu Jing nodded. Only then did he realize that there was a ball of fire stuck in his throat, and he desperately wanted to drink water.

"Wait a minute, I'll drag the corpse of the worm further away." With that, Xu Lingzhao dragged away the obstruction in the middle of the cave with one hand. When she returned to Chu Jingze, she knelt down on one knee, spread the cloth bag containing the clothes on the ground, and said to him, "Sit down, it will be more comfortable."

Chu Jing watched her considerate actions, blinked a few times, as if his legs were a little sore, and sat down on the cloth bag in a daze. As soon as he sat down, the knight handed him a glass of liquid, "Wine, sweet."

He took the bottle, whispered a thank you, his ears turning slightly red. It looked like she had drunk from it, but he was so thirsty that he tried to pull out the cork with his hand. As soon as he exerted force, a sharp pain shot through his forearm.
