Chapter 247 The Wolf King Has Arrived

Yu Yuehui and Gu Che moved nimbly among the tree branches, not daring to stop for a moment. The wind whistled in their ears, and every jump and climb felt like a race against death.

After an unknown amount of time, they arrived at a remote mountain area. The trees here had never been cut down, and each one was thick and tall. Even if two adults stretched out their arms, they might not be able to wrap their arms around these big trees.

The two leaped onto the thickest tree in perfect unison. Gu Che's chest heaved violently, while Yu Yuehui leaned against the trunk, panting heavily. Their clothes were already soaked with blood and sweat.

Even such a large tree swayed violently when it was bumped by the wolves below.

The hungry wolves, their eyes red and teeth bared, rammed into the trees with ferocity, making the trunks creak and groan as if they were about to break at any moment.

However, it wasn't so easy for these beasts to knock down these big trees; despite the violent shaking, they still stood stubbornly upright.

After catching their breath, they began to treat their wounds.

Gu Che had relatively few wounds, while Yu Yuehui was severely injured, with a shocking wound running from her left shoulder to her back, especially around her shoulder blade, where a piece of flesh had been torn away.

Bones were exposed, and blood was dripping everywhere. As Gu Che applied medicine to her, Yu Yuehui bit her lower lip tightly, large beads of sweat rolled down her forehead, and her face turned as pale as paper due to pain and blood loss, but she did not utter a sound.

Gu Che felt sorry for her and was afraid she would bite her tongue, so he quickly whittled a smooth piece of wood and handed it to her, his voice full of concern: "Here, bite it, don't force yourself."

Yu Yue forced a pale smile, shook her head, and the intense pain from her wound brought tears to her eyes, but she said firmly, "It's alright, Master, I can endure this pain."

Gu Che placed the wood in her hand, then took out a knife from his backpack. With gentle yet urgent movements, he carefully cut open her clothes and began applying medicine.

Fortunately, the medicine prepared by Xie Yan was very effective, and Yu Yuehui's bleeding stopped in no time.

It's good that the bleeding has stopped. In this environment, if she lost too much blood, there would be no need for the wolves below; Yu Yuehui would be dead.

Fortunately, the medicine Xie Yan gave Yu Yue was made with special ingredients and was very effective. The wounds in other areas were gradually healing under the medicine's influence, but the wound on her back was too large, and coupled with the lack of rest and constant tension, it showed no signs of improvement.

At first, the two thought it was just a missing piece of flesh, so the recovery would be slower. However, on the third day, Yu Yuehui noticed something was wrong with the wound. A strange pain came, as if a million ants were biting her.

After hearing this, Gu Che quickly removed the bandage and saw that the wound was red, swollen, and inflamed, with the surrounding skin having an unhealthy dark red hue and emitting a foul odor.

Gu Che's brows furrowed instantly. He knew the seriousness of inflammation. In the army, many soldiers had lost their lives because their wounds became infected and did not receive timely treatment.

Yu Yue was someone he brought up, and he would absolutely not let anything happen to her here.

Gu Che gazed at the dense pack of wolves beneath the tree, pondering how to break through.

Yu Yue breathed a sigh of relief after learning that it was an inflammation.

Turning her head, she saw Gu Che's unfathomable eyes and instantly guessed what her master was thinking. Enduring the pain, she smiled and comforted him, "It's okay, Master. I have some anti-inflammatory medicine in my bag. Apply it and you'll be fine."

"The wolf pack below is clearly on its last legs. If we just hold on a little longer, we can get back safely."

Upon hearing this, Gu Che's heart stirred. Looking at his resilient disciple, he solemnly instructed, "If there are any signs of fever or anything like that, be sure to tell me as soon as possible!"

Yu Yue nodded vigorously, a playful smile on her face: "I know, Master, don't worry, I also take great care of my health."

Thank goodness, Xie Yan's anti-inflammatory medicine was very effective; after applying it, the festering of the wound was brought under control.

The two persisted in the trees for three more days. Whenever a tree was about to give way, they would use their agility to leap to another tree.

The wolves under the tree seemed to be competing with them, keeping a tight circle around the tree and refusing to leave. Later, they even cleverly split into two groups and took turns guarding it.

The winter wind howled like a knife, and the white breath of the wolves filled the cold air. They seemed determined to eat the two of them this winter.

On the seventh day, the wolf king finally appeared.

It was agile and exuded an innate majesty. Its cold gaze was fixed on the two people in the tree, as if it could see through everything.

Although Gu Che and Yu Yuehui were hungry, cold and exhausted, their momentum when they went up the mountain remained undiminished.

Gu Che unleashed his killing intent instantly, confronting the Wolf King from a distance. For a moment, the air seemed to freeze.

After a long while, the wolf king let out a long howl and led the pack away slowly.

Watching the wolf pack disappear into the distance, Yu Yuehui and Gu Che did not relax, as they knew how cunning wolves were.

The cold wind continued to howl, rustling the branches. The two waited in the tree for another day, and only after confirming that the wolf pack showed no signs of returning did Gu Che turn to Yue and say, "You wait here, I'll go get some food."

At this moment, Yu Yuehui understood that this was not the time to be stubborn. She obediently nodded, leaned against the tree trunk, and looked on with a hint of expectation in her eyes.

For a week, they lived like savages in the trees. They had run out of food long ago, and then they tore off some ginseng roots and hung them up.

Of course, the snow on the trees also played a significant role.

After climbing down the tree, Gu Che quietly searched for prey in the forest and soon caught several pheasants.

He skillfully prepared the pheasant, covered it in mud, lit a fire, and made it into beggar's chicken. After the chicken was roasted, he hurriedly returned with the still-steaming clods of earth.

After finding Yu Yuehui, whose face was growing increasingly pale, the two wolfed down a meal and then carefully headed down the mountain.

Night fell, and a cold wind howled. Xie Yan had just finished reading a book and was lying on the kang (a heated brick bed), his mind replaying the contents of the book.

Suddenly, a faint sound came from the courtyard. His heart tightened, and a strong premonition surged into his mind. It must be Yu Yue returning!

He quickly lit the kerosene lamp, its dim light illuminating his anxious face.

As soon as he opened the door, a blast of cold wind hit him. He saw Yu Yuehui, who had lost a lot of weight and whose face was as pale as paper, as if she had escaped from hell.

Xie Yan felt his legs go weak and he almost collapsed to the ground, but luckily he managed to grab the door frame in time.

He said nothing, but silently stepped aside, gesturing for the two to enter the house.
