Chapter 248 Going Home

Taking a deep breath to calm himself, Xie Yan turned and went out, bringing in the washbasin that was outside.

Then she took out a brand new towel from the cabinet that she had received when she got married. The towel was folded neatly and had never been used.

He went to the stove, picked up the kettle that had just boiled, poured the hot water into a basin, and began washing towels with a sullen face.

Seeing Xie Yan's actions, Yu Yue knew he was angry, so she carefully said, "Xiao Yan, actually, I just didn't look too good, but I'm fine, it's just a minor injury."

Xie Yan pursed his lips tightly, remaining silent. He was afraid that if he opened his mouth, his worries and anger would turn into words of reproach, stinging Yue Hui.

After washing the towel, Xie Yan looked at Gu Che, her voice carrying a hint of barely perceptible displeasure, "There's another pot of boiling water over there, take it to the outer room and wash up yourself."

Upon hearing this, Gu Che lowered his head slightly, a hint of guilt flashing across his face. He knew that he had put Yu Yuehui in a dangerous situation this time.

To be honest, Gu Che felt extremely guilty.

After all, he had made a solemn promise before leaving that he would bring the person back unharmed.

Faced with Xie Yan's cold words, Gu Che felt guilty and had no words to say.

He silently picked up the kettle and walked outside.

A cold wind blew in his face, swirling snowflakes from the rooftops and swirling wildly in the courtyard. Gu Che knew the place where Yue went home to bathe, and without Xie Yan's guidance, his figure quickly disappeared into the night.

Having spent these days living outdoors in the mountains, they were indeed no different from wild men. Being able to take a good bath was already a great comfort to them.

Seeing her master leave, Yu Yue quickly forced a smile, trying to comfort Xie Yan: "It's alright, I just suffered a minor injury, don't be upset, okay?"

Xie Yan looked at her, sighed softly, suppressed his emotions, and tried to keep his tone calm: "I'm not angry. Quickly take off your clothes and put on the ones by the kang. Let me see your wound."

Knowing that Yu Yuehui would be returning soon, Xie Yan had already found her change of clothes and kept them warm on the kang (a heated brick bed), hoping for her safe return.

I never expected her to come back like this. Seeing her like this, I just feel sorry for her. How could I bear to scold her?

Yu Yue secretly glanced at Xie Yan, and seeing that his face was still gloomy, she felt a chill in her heart and dared not take off her clothes easily.

She knew in her heart that if Xie Yan saw the terrible wound on her back, she didn't know how furious he would be.

Xie Yan noticed her unusual behavior and asked directly, "Is your injury serious?"

Yu Yuehui shook her head frantically, "No, no!"

However, Xie Yan didn't give her a chance to cover up and directly helped her take off her clothes.

Yu Yuehui knew there was no escaping it now, so she could only cooperate silently and helplessly.

When Xie Yan saw her back, his heart clenched and his breath caught in his throat.

That's hardly a minor injury! The wound on his back is gruesome and terrifying; the flesh has been torn away. And yet he dares to say it's nothing, just a minor injury!

Does an injury only count as a missing arm or leg?

Looking at the rough treatment marks on the wound, Xie Yan's eyes reddened, and he suppressed his heartache and anger, refusing to utter a word of blame.

He carefully lit a few candles; the warm yellow candlelight flickered, but it couldn't dispel the heavy, oppressive atmosphere in the room.

Then, he took out the alcohol and cotton swabs he had bought last time, and with gentle yet undeniable determination, began to disinfect the wound.

As soon as the alcohol touched the wound, Yu Yuehui couldn't help but gasp and instinctively flinch.

Xie Yan immediately stopped what he was doing, and then became even more careful, his eyes filled with tenderness.

After finally managing to treat the wound and wrap it with new gauze, Gu Che had just finished taking a shower.

Outside, the cold wind howled. Gu Che deliberately coughed at the door to make sure the house was tidied up before pushing the door open and entering.

Upon entering the room, one could see Xie Yan gently wiping Yu Yuehui's face with a towel.

Meanwhile, his usually quiet and composed apprentice was grinning like a complete fool.

Gu Che stood there, hesitated for a moment, and then said guiltily, "I'm sorry!"

Xie Yan raised his head, his gaze icy, and said coldly, "You should know how dangerous it is to go out in heavy snow. Does this training really have to be conducted in heavy snow?"

Gu Che lowered his head, knowing full well that he had acted too rashly this time. Faced with Xie Yan's accusations, he had no words to respond and could only silently endure them.

Upon seeing this, Yu Yuehui hurriedly spoke up: "Xiao Yan, this matter is my fault, please don't blame Master."

She was filled with self-reproach, feeling that her greed for those ginseng had led to all of this.

Xie Yan suddenly turned to look at her, his emotions finally erupting: "Do you know that your wound, if not treated in time, can become infected and be fatal! You're playing with your life!"

"What could possibly be worth risking your life for?"

Yu Yuehui was rendered speechless by this series of questions and could only obediently shut her mouth.

At this moment, Xie Yan was like an erupting volcano, ready to unleash its fury on anyone who dared to speak to it.

Seeing that neither of them spoke, Xie Yan's anger burned even more fiercely.

He saw that Gu Che was still wearing those tattered, stained clothes. He took a deep breath, suppressed his emotions, found some clothes that he didn't like to wear but were still relatively clean, and handed them over, saying, "Take these! Wearing your clothes is no different from not washing them at all."

Gu Che opened his mouth, wanting to say thank you, but Xie Yan didn't give him the chance and turned to leave.

Gu Che picked up the clothes, sighed, turned around and went out to change.

I must say, these clean clothes are much better than his bloodstained, stiff-framed clothes.

Xie Yan turned around and continued to carefully examine Yu Yuehui's wounds elsewhere.

After the inspection, he still asked with a cold expression, "What do you want to eat?"

Yu Yue glanced at him furtively. She wanted to say she wasn't hungry, but she was afraid of upsetting him, so she could only mumble softly, "Do you have any stir-fried pickled cabbage? Or make me a bowl of fermented noodle soup!"

Xie Yan nodded. Just then, there were still embers in the stove. He added some firewood, and the flames instantly leaped up, illuminating his worried and tired face.

He started cooking noodles, and the rising steam blurred his vision and blocked the tears in his eyes.

When Gu Che entered the house again, he saw Xie Yan cooking noodles and hurried over to help.

Seeing that he moved nimbly and showed no signs of exhaustion, Xie Yan's anger was reignited. He simply left the task of cooking noodles to Gu Che and went to the kitchen to get bowls and pickled vegetables.

The atmosphere inside was so oppressive that it was hard to breathe; the only sounds were the crackling of the stove and the gurgling of the noodles cooking.

The two finished a whole bowl of noodles in one go. Xie Yan was even angrier when he saw them wolfing down their food. It was obvious that they hadn't eaten properly for a long time.
