Chapter 391 Going to the Hospital

Yu Yuehui waved her hand again, "Really, it's not necessary. We all give birth at home here, so we don't need to go to the hospital!"

She's already rejected him eight hundred times.

Xie Yan ignored her and said forcefully, "There's no room for discussion on this. You only have a few days left. If it snows again tomorrow morning, the roads will be even more difficult to travel."

Seeing that Yu Yue was about to argue, Xie Yan stared intently into her eyes, "Be good~"

Yu Yue pouted and retreated under Xie Yan's glaring gaze.

As soon as Qian Hong entered the house, Xie Yan hurriedly stepped forward and earnestly instructed, "Mother, please help look after Yue Hui. I plan to take her to the hospital after I finish shoveling snow today. See if there's anything else that needs to be packed; we need to prepare it in advance."

Qian Hong was actually not really supportive of giving birth in a hospital.

In their village, many people know how to deliver babies, and whatever happens, everyone gets through it this way.

Xie Yan had told her last time that this was Yuehui's first pregnancy, and given the current bad weather, if the baby was born at night and there was heavy snow, making the roads difficult to travel, it would be a huge problem if they couldn't get there in time. Anything could go wrong.

As the saying goes, it's better to be safe than sorry; it's always good to be cautious.

Furthermore, Xie Yan also mentioned that going to the hospital doesn't actually cost much money.

Qian Hong felt sorry for her only daughter, and after Xie Yan's repeated persuasion, she finally agreed.

Hearing Xie Yan say that they were going to the hospital right now, Qian Hong couldn't help but look at her daughter on the kang (a heated brick bed) who still showed no signs of labor, and hesitated, "Isn't it too early?"

Xie Yan shook his head. "Mother, look at the snow today. It snowed at night and then cleared up during the day. If the weather is like this for the next couple of days, we won't be able to go to the hospital."

"We might as well go today."

"Anyway, it's only for these few days, it won't cost much."

Qian Hong thought it made sense. She hoped something might actually happen, so she waved her hand and told Xie Yan to go sweep the snow while she started packing the things she needed to get later.

Xie Yan called Gu Bin at the intersection. What started as a two-person group gradually turned into a large, imposing procession once they reached the main road.

It took two hours to clear the snow, and by the time it connected with other villages, Xie Yan was too exhausted to speak.

Why!

It was his first time sweeping the streets, and it really exhausted him!

He really wasn't suited for hard work; he was so exhausted that he felt he needed to stay home and rest for three days to recover.

But reality didn't give Xie Yan any time to rest.

Exhausted, Xie Yan borrowed an oxcart and rushed home to pick up Yu Yue and head to the commune.

It was almost six o'clock when we arrived at the commune. Winter days are short, and dusk was already falling.

After settling Yu Yuehui at the hospital first, Xie Yan ran to get food and settle Niu Che and Uncle Yu. This Uncle Yu was not Yu Hai; his name was Yu Nanzi, but everyone called him Uncle Yu because of their seniority.

Uncle Yu was a little nervous at this moment. He was going to stay at the guesthouse tonight, a place he had never stayed in his entire life.

I have no idea what it looks like inside.

After Yu Yuehui had eaten, Xie Yan carried the food he had prepared for Uncle Yu and accompanied him to the guesthouse. They parked the oxcart in the designated animal pens area, took Uncle Yu to the room that had been prepared for him, and after settling him in, they rushed off to the hospital.

When Xie Yan returned to the hospital, he was starving.

I was really tired and hungry.

After opening the lunchbox, Xie Yan found the food was still steaming. He couldn't believe it because the hospital was crowded and noisy. He knew that there were people in the wards all the way back after getting the food, so he couldn't put the food in his space.

He had assumed the food would be cold by now, but it seemed his wife must have done something. He turned to Yu Yuehui and asked, "What did you do?"

Before the moon could answer, a pregnant woman next to him smiled and said, "Young man, you're lucky. Your wife has been keeping your lunchbox warm with hot water ever since you left."

The pregnant woman looked a bit older than her age. Xie Yan smiled and nodded, as if to say hello.

Turning to look at Yu Yuehui, he said, "Thank you, wife~"

Yu Yue smiled and looked at him. Xie Yan was already very hungry, not to mention that he was in a hospital, so he ate very quickly.

After they finished eating, Xie Yan helped Yu Yuehui wash up. As Xie Yan handed the clean towel to Yu Yuehui who was standing, the older woman next door suddenly spoke up, "Is this your first child?"

After wiping her face, Yu Yue handed the towel to Xie Yan, then turned to the woman next door and smiled, "Yes, how did you figure that out, sister?"

The older sister smiled, revealing a long wrinkle at the corner of her eyes. She looked at Yu Yuehui as if she were seeing her former self. "When I had my first child, the father of the child was just like your husband, worried sick."

The woman's family hadn't come over even once since the afternoon, so Yu Yuehui wisely refrained from saying anything and just smiled.

Just as Xie Yan and his wife finished tidying up and were getting ready for bed, a middle-aged man carrying a lunchbox came in and paused for a moment when he saw Xie Yan and his wife.

When the woman next door saw him coming, she immediately beamed, "Why didn't you have Daya bring it over?"

"You must be tired after a long day at work!"

The middle-aged man casually handed the lunchbox to the older woman, saying, "She has to take care of the younger ones at home and can't get away."

"This is a nutritious meal that Mom made for you, eat it quickly."

Their voices gradually faded, probably because they realized Xie Yan and the others had already fallen asleep.

Today's thank-you banquet was truly exhausting. As the noise from the other end subsided, I closed my eyes and fell asleep almost immediately.

Suddenly, Xie Yan was awakened by deafening snoring. The moment he opened his eyes, he felt a sense of despair as the snoring from next door began in a chorus!

The two were like competitors, taking turns to perform without leaving any gaps in between.

Turning his head, Xie Yan saw Yu Yuehui, who had also been woken up. He turned on the light and pulled back the curtain, intending to wake the two people over there. But the moment he saw the pregnant woman, he pulled his outstretched foot back. Forget it, even if he woke them up now, they would still be like this after they fell asleep. Unless he didn't let them sleep tonight.

Xie Yan turned his head and said, "Wife, wait for me a moment. I'll go find the doctor and ask him to change our ward. I saw a lot of empty wards when I came here today."

Yu Yue nodded; she was also uncomfortable without making a fuss.

Xie Yan found the doctor on duty's office and felt even more heartbroken when he saw the doctor sleeping on the table. He had been quiet all the way here, but now, late at night, he and his wife were the only two unlucky guys who couldn't sleep.

After knocking a few times, the doctor on duty sat up abruptly, looking clearly at Xie Yan standing in the doorway. "What's wrong? Is your wife about to give birth?"

Xie Yan shook his head. "Doctor, do I want to change rooms?"

The doctor's expression wasn't good. "Why do you want to change rooms?"
