Chapter 542 Give and Take

Two ships?!

Qin Anning's voice suddenly rose, "Really? We only applied for two wireless communication devices."

Before Fu Wan could reply, Qin Anning clapped her hands again, "That's right, this new ship plus the two old ships make three, doesn't it?"

Wait a minute, didn't Brother Fu tell me a while ago that he returned the rented boat to someone else?

In response to Qin Anning's confusion, Fu Wan had no choice but to briefly recount what had happened during this period to them.

Upon hearing Fu Wan say that the village chief's boat had capsized at sea, Qin Anning's face also showed great tension.

Bai Qianzhou knew about this; several comrades from the camp who went out to sea on patrol that day were injured by the wind and waves.

So as soon as he finished his work, he called Fu Family Village to confirm the safety of Fu Wan's family.

"It's alright, install the two units first. As for the third unit, I'll call and ask Leader Sun later."

If there are only two pieces of equipment on three ships, communication will be inconvenient.

Fu Wan wasn't trying to take advantage of the camp; two of the three boats were already loaded, and it would be bad to leave one behind.

If all else fails, she can pay for it herself.

After all, radio is incredibly useful for venturing out to sea!

After the equipment on the new ship was installed, Bai Qianzhou and Qin Anning fiddled with it for a bit more, and then gave the walkie-talkie to Fu Wan.

The walkie-talkies of that time were not the modern wireless ones; they consisted of a small microphone connected to a curved black telephone line, with a signal receiving device at the other end.

After Bai Qianzhou installed the radio, he demonstrated to Fu Wan how to use the wireless channel to communicate with other ships. After Fu Wan learned how to use it, the two of them went to install it on the next ship.

Seeing that they were all busy, Fu Wan turned and went to the village committee.

The village accountant greeted Fu Wan with a smile, "Wan, calling again?"

Fu Wan greeted her with a smile, "Yes, I have something to do."

The accountant likes Fu Wan and Fu San who make a lot of phone calls; the more they make, the more revenue they generate from phone calls.

Next year is the Lunar New Year, and those working at the village committee will also get a few extra cents.

The call was transferred several times before it was finally answered. Sun Shao-ping happened to be free, and when he heard it was Fu Wan calling, he immediately picked up the phone.

"Comrade Xiao Fu, I knew you'd call. How was my surprise?"

"It's not just okay, it's exceptionally good!"

Fu Wan smiled and said, "Thank you for remembering me, leader. Radios are absolutely essential for us fishermen!"

Sun Shao-ping was overjoyed to hear this. "Haha, I knew you needed it. I'm just turning waste into treasure. I'm glad I can help!"

But you didn't call just to flatter me, did you?

"Hehe, as expected of a leader, you saw through it all."

Fu Wan coughed twice, embarrassed. "Well, boss, I have three ships, and the wireless equipment you approved for me is a bit insufficient."

"Could I buy another one?"

Sun Shao-ping thought she had something to say, but it turned out to be a lack of wireless equipment.

"Buy? No way."

Fu Wan was immediately disappointed, but then Sun Shao Ping's voice rang out again.

“Our camp equipment cannot be bought or sold. If you are missing a set, I can apply for another set for you.”

Fu Wan was overjoyed. "Really? Thank you so much, boss."

Then she thought for a moment and asked, "Leader Sun, can the camp accept donations?"

"Donate, donate what?"

Sun Shao-ping found it strange; how did the conversation about radios suddenly turn into a donation?

"Oh dear, I've opened a cannery, and the canned fish I'm producing lately is particularly good."

The wireless equipment is very important to us, and I am very grateful that the camp thought of us.

How about this, I'll have someone send some canned fish over for everyone to try. It's just a small token of my appreciation!

Upon hearing this, Sun Shao-ping could not possibly agree and immediately refused.

"No, we can't accept this."

“If you don’t accept it, I’ll have Bai Qianzhou take the radio back later.”

Sun Shao-ping was so angry at her words that he laughed. "You little girl, why are you so stubborn?"

Okay, then please deliver it. I'll thank you on everyone's behalf!

"That's right, no need to thank me. The military and the people are one family, there's no need to thank me."

After hanging up the phone, Fu Wan immediately dialed the cannery's number.

"Uncle Wang, are my dad and brother still at the factory? Could you have the warehouse help me pack twenty boxes of canned fish, and then have my dad and brother deliver them to the camp?"

They know the address, the fish canning business will be accounted for in my name, and it will be deducted from my year-end bonus.

Wang Jianmin agreed. After hanging up the phone, Fu Wan was about to go to the dock to see if Bai Qianzhou and the others had finished their work when she unexpectedly ran into Qian Xiaohua carrying a hoe.

Although Shen Dongsheng had some unpleasant experiences in the village, Qian Xiaohua did speak up when her boat's leather strap was cut last time.

So Fu Wan didn't give her the cold shoulder and kept to herself. She originally thought Qian Xiaohua was just passing by, but unexpectedly, after hesitating for a few moments, she actually ran over.

"Fu...Fu Wan, is your farm still hiring?"

Fu Wan was surprised; she hadn't expected her to ask this.

"We probably won't be hiring for now. Uncle Jiang is only providing training, and the actual work at the farm won't begin until next spring."

"I see."

Seeing Qian Xiaohua's disappointed look, Fu Wan felt a pang of pity for some reason.

"Uncle Jiang is giving a lecture on animal husbandry at the ancestral hall today, why didn't you go listen?"

"If you have time, you can go listen to it; you might find it useful later."

"I don't even know many words, why would I go to class?"

She picked at her fingers embarrassedly; her hands were covered in dirt under her fingernails from farm work.

"What does it matter if you can't read? Didn't you raise those chickens very well before?"

"If we can raise chickens well, there's no reason why we can't learn how to raise other animals."

Fu Wan's words immediately brightened her eyes, and she immediately headed towards the ancestral hall.

"Then, I'll go."

"Go ahead, go ahead."

Although Qian Xiaohua was a bit confused before, Fu Wan had seen how protective she was of the child.

She wasn't a saint; Qian Xiaohua had been led astray by jealousy after Boss Fu returned safely.

Now that she has figured things out and is more clear-headed and honest, Fu Wan doesn't mind letting bygones be bygones for those past squabbles.

When Fu Wan arrived at the dock, Bai Qianzhou and Qin Anning had already installed the radio on the old ship.

Upon seeing Fu Wan arrive, Qin Anning led her to the new ship. Hearing Bai Qianzhou's voice coming through the radio in the cockpit, Fu Wan was overjoyed.

"Wow, you guys are amazing! We have to celebrate tonight!"

There was no way to celebrate, Bai Qianzhou and Qin Anning regretfully explained that they had to go back to work that night.

Fu Wan could only ask Ye Xiaocui to pack some home-cooked food for them. When everyone sat down to eat dinner that evening, Fu Ming raised a question.

"Shouldn't we give the ship a name?"
