Chapter 59

Yang Qingyan dragged her exhausted body back home. As soon as she entered the house, she went straight to the bedroom without even changing her shoes. She fell headfirst onto the bed, as if all the strength in her body had been drained away.

In order to develop the antidote, she had been tossing and turning in bed these days, with a high level of concentration. Now that the crisis was over, her tense nerves relaxed, and fatigue completely overwhelmed her like a tide, and she soon fell into a deep sleep.

After an unknown amount of time, Mu Nanhe pushed the wheelchair and slowly opened the door. He also looked exhausted, but his eyes showed relief of having survived a disaster. Seeing that the house was quiet, he consciously slowed down his movements. When he opened the bedroom door and saw Yang Qingyan sleeping, he felt distressed.

"Thank you for your hard work during this period." Mu Nanhe whispered softly, his eyes so gentle that tears could drip out of them.

He quietly left the room and went to the kitchen. He opened the cupboard and found it was empty, which reminded him that he had run out of food at home. So he turned around and walked out the door, heading towards the army canteen.

At this time, the cooks were preparing meals in the dining hall. Mu Nanhe came to the window and said softly, "Comrade, please give me two meals, lighter ones."

The cook looked up and saw that it was Mu Nanhe. He stood at attention and saluted immediately: "Captain Mu! Don't worry, I will prepare it for you right away. Today's vegetable soup is especially fresh, and there is also steamed fish. It is nutritious and delicious. My sister-in-law will definitely like it."

Soon, two steaming meals were ready. Mu Nanhe took the lunch box, thanked the cook with a smile, and then carefully carried it back home.

When he got home, he placed the food on the dining table, boiled some hot water, poured it out and put it aside. Then, he went to the bedroom again, sat beside the bed, and looked at Yang Qingyan quietly.

Yang Qingyan slowly woke up, not knowing whether it was the aroma of the food or Mu Nanhe's gentle gaze. She was sleepy, and when she saw Mu Nanhe sitting beside her, the corners of her mouth curled up unconsciously, revealing a faint smile: "Nanhe, you're back."

Mu Nanhe gently held her lips and said, "I'm glad you're awake. Go wash your face. I bought some food from the cafeteria. They're all your favorites."

Yang Qingyan got up, washed up briefly, and came to the dining table. Looking at the food on the table, she was moved. "Nanhe, you are so thoughtful."

The two sat opposite each other, quietly enjoying this rare moment of peace. The heat of the food lingered between them, and a warm atmosphere filled the entire room.

"Qingyan, I'm so sorry for you this time. Without you, those soldiers..." Mu Nanhe put down his bowl and chopsticks and said seriously.

Yang Qingyan shook her head and held Mu Nanhe's hand: "Don't say that, didn't you also find out the mastermind behind the poisoning? I am also very happy to be able to cure the soldiers." The two smiled at each other.

Next day

After being busy for more than half a month without any formal rehabilitation training, Yang Qingyan plans to start training again from today.

After breakfast, Yang Qingyan helped Mu Nanhe to the courtyard. "Nanhe, our first exercise today is to try to stand up. I will support you by the side, don't be afraid."

Mu Nanhe took a deep breath, grabbed Yang Qingyan's arm tightly with both hands, and tried to stand up. But as soon as he exerted force, his legs began to ache, and his body began to shake.

"Don't be anxious, Nanhe, let's take it slow. First get used to the feeling of using force in your legs." Yang Qingyan said patiently.

The first time he tried, Mu Nanhe failed to stand up. But he didn't give up. After a short rest, he tried again. The second time, his legs were shaking so badly that he still failed. The third time, he used up all his strength and finally stood up tremblingly. Although he only lasted for three seconds, his forehead was already covered with sweat.

"I did it!" Mu Nanhe's eyes flashed with excitement.

"Great, Nanhe! This is a great start." Yang Qingyan said.

For the next three days, standing training was repeated. On the fourth day, Mu Nanhe could stand for five seconds on his own without Yang Qingyan's help.

As he stood steadily, Yang Qingyan began to guide Mu Nanhe in mobile training. "Nanhe, let's try to take a small step forward now. I will hold you tightly."

Mu Nanhe carefully lifted his leg and moved forward five centimeters. This seemingly simple step took him a lot of energy, and his body shook as soon as he landed.

"Very good, Nanhe, just like that, keep it up." Yang Qingyan's voice kept echoing in his ears.

On the first day of mobility training, Mu Nanhe walked a total of five steps with Yang Qingyan's support. In the following days, he tried to walk one more step every day. After a week, he could already walk more than 20 steps with Yang Qingyan's support.

On the tenth day, Yang Qingyan suggested, "Nanhe, today let's try walking a few steps on our own without my help, and I'll be there to protect you, how about that?"

Although Mu Nanhe was a little nervous, he still mustered up the courage to agree. He took a deep breath, slowly loosened Yang Qingyan's grip, and took the first step. His body instantly lost balance, and Yang Qingyan was quick to support him.

"It's okay, Nanhe, let's try again." Yang Qingyan encouraged.

On his second attempt, Mu Nanhe took one step, then stumbled and nearly fell. On his third attempt, he managed to take two steps. After more than twenty attempts, Mu Nanhe finally managed to take five steps on his own. "I did it, Qingyan!" he shouted excitedly.

"I knew you were great, Nanhe! You're amazing!" Yang Qingyan applauded and cheered for him.

As his walking ability improved, Yang Qingyan began to develop a more challenging training plan for Mu Nanhe. She placed some bricks and wooden boards in the yard to create an uneven road surface.

On the first day of walking training on uneven ground, Mu Nanhe walked very carefully. Halfway through, his foot accidentally stepped on a raised wooden board, and his body instantly lost balance and fell to the ground, scraping the skin on his palm.

"Nanhe, how are you?" Yang Qingyan hurried over and asked with concern.

"I'm fine, Qingyan. This minor injury is nothing." Mu Nanhe gritted his teeth and said while enduring the pain.

While cleaning his wound, Yang Qingyan said, "Nanhe, let's not be too anxious. We should continue the training step by step."

Mu Nanhe nodded: "I know, Qingyan. I just want to return to the army as soon as possible."

After two days of rest, Mu Nanhe resumed training. He carefully observed the road conditions, adjusted his pace and center of gravity, and slowly, he became more and more stable when walking on uneven roads.

At the same time, Yang Qingyan also asked Mu Nanhe to gradually increase the distance and speed of his walking. At first, Mu Nanhe was out of breath after walking 50 meters. After a month of training, he could easily walk 200 meters. His speed also increased from 20 steps per minute to 50 steps per minute.

One day, Chen Feng came to visit Mu Nanhe. Seeing that Mu Nanhe was able to walk steadily, Chen Feng was surprised: "Nanhe, your recovery speed is too fast!"

Mu Nanhe smiled and said, "Thanks to Qingyan, if she hadn't accompanied me in training and encouraged me, I wouldn't have been able to recover so well."

Chen Feng said with emotion: "My sister-in-law has made an invaluable contribution. When you return to the team, we can fight side by side again!"
