"Are you deliberately trying to wake everyone up? Let's get down to business." The two men approached the mule cart, their eyes narrowed to slits. Seeing that no one was inside, they were overjoyed. They reached out to grab the bundle inside, and when they opened it, they were greeted by a dazzling array of flatbreads, coarse grain buns, and white flour.
"This job was worth it." Zhu Sanzhuang panted heavily. He was about to stuff a steamed bun into his mouth when he was grabbed and thrown away like a chick.
"The master is still here. It's not a good habit to come uninvited and take things without asking." It was just a coincidence that Lin Zhaozhao saw the two people touching her mule cart as soon as she returned. The excitement and greed in their eyes were almost tangible.
The two men glanced at Lin Zhaozhao, then at her prominently protruding belly, and awkwardly took two steps back. "It's a misunderstanding, it's all a misunderstanding."
"We came over to take a look because we saw that there was no one around the mule cart and we were afraid that someone might take advantage of the situation."
"Is that so?" Lin Zhaozhao asked with a half-smile.
"Of course, you even gave my daughter a bowl of rice porridge earlier, I'm so grateful." Zhu Sanzhuang's heart was pounding, and a sudden sense of crisis made him grab the woman and turn to leave.
They practically fled into the dilapidated temple. The woman whispered unhappily, "What are you doing? You're just a pregnant woman. If we hurry up, what are you afraid of?"
"Are you blind? Didn't you see there was someone hiding behind the mule cart? You're going to wake everyone up and then accuse them of theft. Do you want to live or die?"
The woman's heart skipped a beat. She looked out in the moonlight and saw a tall, burly figure standing opposite the pregnant woman. Fear gripped her heart. Thinking of the grain in the mule cart, she swallowed hard, her stomach burning with hunger. She gritted her teeth, her eyes filled with resentment.
"Just like that?" Lin Yangyang asked with a smile. Lin Zhaozhao took out some cherries and handed them to her, her smile forced. "What do you think?"
The two sisters chuckled knowingly. Lin Yangyang ate a few cherries and suddenly felt a warmth on her neck, followed by warm breath and snoring. At the same time, Lin Zhaozhao felt a familiar tightness in her fingertips.
"Where did this cat come from?" Lin Yangyang excitedly rubbed the little cat, and seeing it comfortably tilting its head back, Lin Yangyang was filled with surprise and delight.
"I found it." Seeing Lin Yangyang enjoying the cherries, Lin Zhaozhao's cravings were whetted, so she took out a bag of beef jerky to eat.
Lin Yangyang was already used to her second sister making things out of thin air, so when she saw the dried meat being handed to her, she stuffed it into her mouth. The fragrant and spicy flavor spread in her mouth, and Lin Yangyang's eyes lit up. She leaned closer to Lin Zhaozhao and said, "Second sister, this is so delicious."
"Eat more if you like it." Lin Yangyang stuffed a bag of jerky into her arms and ate it while petting the cat.
She quickly noticed something was wrong; the little brat was moving in response to the movement of her hand—or rather, the cherry in her hand.
Holding the cherry by the stem, Lin Yangyang brought it to Xiao Guai's mouth. Sure enough, it opened its mouth. Lin Yangyang was shocked. "Second Sister."
"Feed her a little." After chewing a piece of beef jerky, Lin Zhaozhao's cheeks ached. She threw the grapevine on the ground and climbed onto the mule cart.
Feeling refreshed, Lin Zhaozhao slept soundly.
The next day, Lin Zhaozhao was awakened by the sound of cats being played with. It turned out that the Lin family and the Li family had learned from Lin Yangyang that she had picked up a black ball of fur. They were all disappointed, especially since the little black ball of fur was pretty and knew how to please people, making it even more lovable.
Lin Zhaozhao got off the mule cart and saw Xiao Guai nestled in Lin's arms, its tail swishing back and forth, and its head rubbing against Li's hand. It made the two old ladies happy. Of course, the little guy knew who its parents were. When it saw that she was awake, it rolled around on her feet with its tail held high.
That's really something to be excited about.
Xiao Guai successfully infiltrated the inner circle and became the newly crowned darling of the group.
