Chapter 18 I'm Poor, So I'm Right (2/2)

"You won't listen to reason, so here comes the punishment. Is it so hard to talk things out properly?" Zhu Sanzhuang, taking advantage of his superior numbers, immediately gained momentum.

"All I want is a bowl of porridge, how can you be so stingy, not even a little bit? I have no choice, you forced us to do this."

“You all heard what she just said. She would rather collapse than give us a single bite.”

"Since that's the case, then don't blame us. I scouted the way for you last night. They have some grain on their mule carts, enough for us to have a good meal. Charge!" Zhu Sanzhuang fanned the flames, boosting morale.

Lin Yangyang took out her bow and arrows as a warning, but Lin Zhaozhao stopped her, saying, "Taking action now will only escalate the situation."

"Leave first, don't be reluctant." Seeing Zhang Dandan, who was being protected by Li Minghuang, still trying to take her pot, Lin Zhaozhao shouted.

As the crowd drew closer, they were surrounded. Many of them were quite radicalized by Zhu Sanzhuang's words, and most of them were not fools. When they saw them retreating, their first instinct was to eat the leftover rice porridge in the pot, stuffing large mouthfuls into their mouths.

Upon seeing this, Zhu Sanzhuang was furious. "Are you all stupid? They can afford mule carts, which means there's more grain on them. How can this little bit be enough for so many of us?"

With fewer people surrounding them, and with Li Minghui, Li Minghuang, Li Xiujuan, Lin Fusheng, and Lin Yangyang clearing a path, they quickly created an opening. Li Yunzhou and Li Yunhai then drove the mules straight ahead.

Although these people were blinded by greed for food, they still retained their rationality and did not dare to charge at the mules, but only chased after them.

Lin Zhaozhao tried her best to maintain her balance and threw the wild vegetable dumplings and pancakes to Lin Yangyang, "Throw them to the farthest place."

Lin Yangyang was strong, and the pancakes and wild vegetable dumplings were scattered all over the ground. The group of people who had been chasing him rushed to grab them. Zhu Sanzhuang was unwilling to give up and tried to climb onto the mule cart.

The mule cart slowed down as it went downhill, and just as Zhu Sanzhuang was about to catch up, Lin Zhaozhao took out her bow and arrows and shot one arrow at each of his knees.

This alerted the others, and soon the group shook off their pursuers. Even so, they did not dare to slow down, but instead ran forward with their heads covered.

Sweating profusely, he stopped running only when he was completely exhausted, panting heavily and gulping down water.

After the strenuous exercise, Lin Zhaozhao didn't dare let them sit down directly, but instead helped them walk slowly.

Half an hour later, the mule cart stopped under the shade of a tree.

Li Xiujuan, hands on her hips and hair disheveled, cursed Lin Fusheng, Lin Zhaozhao, and Lin Yangyang.

"You were watching the play with great interest, why are you so listless now? Why don't you put on a show for me? You're so filial, making your elders suffer with us."

“I admit it’s my fault for not being able to bear seeing pitiful people, but you can’t teach me a lesson like this. We almost messed up just now. There were so many people, a dark mass of them. If it weren’t for Zhao Niang’s quick thinking, our whole family’s food would have been robbed.”

"If there's nothing to eat, will you be gnawing on tree roots? There's a baby in your belly, and you don't even plan ahead, just letting things run wild?" Li Xiujuan faced Lin Fusheng directly, her serious expression carrying an imposing aura.

“But you’ve never listened to any advice.” In just the last few days, he’s seen Li Xiujuan secretly giving people coarse grain buns at least three times, not to mention Zhao Niang and Yang Yang.

Although Zhao Niang has a spatial dimension, her family is still doing much better than other families even when fleeing famine. There are so many pitiful people in this world. It's already fortunate that her previous help didn't cause any trouble. But if this continues, it's only a matter of time before something bad happens.
