Chapter 14 Fourteen Cuts

"Oh, why is it so cold?" Aunt Cao took Xu Jiang's hand, felt it was cold, and hurried to pour her a bowl of hot soaked rice.

This soaked rice is made with roasted glutinous rice, added with wine lees, red dates, wolfberries, and brown sugar, and brewed in boiling water. After one bowl, the heat radiates from the lungs, warming the whole body.

Xu Jiang drank her soaked rice and asked Aunt Cao, "How is Lu Zhen?"

Aunt Cao replied, "Although he still doesn't dare to move, he looks much better than when he first arrived, and he's gained some weight."

"I'll go see him." Xu Jiang finished the remaining soaked rice in two gulps, and went to visit Lu Zhen accompanied by Aunt Cao and Zhuang.

As soon as I entered Lu Zhen's room, I saw Cao Dali there, and the two of them, one big and one small, were reading.

Xu Jiang asked, "What book are you reading?"

Cao Dali scratched his ear and hesitated for a long time before saying, "I'm afraid the boss will laugh at me if I tell him that I can't read."

Lu Zhen said, "It's the Thousand Character Classic. Uncle Dali bought it for me."

"How many do you recognize?"

“I can recognize half of them.”

There were a lot of them, too. Xu Jiang walked over to the bed and looked at him. "You look much better indeed." She pinched his face again and said, "You've gained weight."

Lu Zhen blushed slightly and retorted softly, "I... am not fat."

Xu Jiang lifted the quilt again and looked at his legs. They were still fixed with a splint, but there was no odor. It must have been cleaned every day. It seemed that the Cao family took good care of him.

Lu Zhen quickly pulled the quilt over her to prevent her from seeing. Xu Jiang looked at him with amusement, "How old are you, and you're already shy?"

"Don't look at anything indecent!"

"Just looking at a leg is considered indecent? You're still quite old-fashioned at such a young age."

Lu Zhen's face flushed crimson, and he huddled under the quilt, not saying a word. Xu Jiang stopped teasing him and said seriously, "Wait until you're well again. I think it should be after the New Year, which will be just in time for the Spring Festival. Do you want to go?"

His eyes lit up and he said excitedly, "Can I go?"

"Why not? At your age, what else can you do if you don't study?"

Lu Zhen glanced at Cao Dali with embarrassment. Cao Dali said quickly, "Of course you should go! Don't worry, Zhen'er. We all support you in going to school."

"And I, too. I found you and brought you home, so I can't just leave you alone. Just focus on recuperating while I recover, and read the book when you have time. From now on, I'll come to give you lessons every seven days. I'll personally set the homework for you, and if you don't complete it, you'll get a slap on the palm of your hand, understand?"

Lu Zhen nodded rapidly and said, "Got it!"

Xu Jiang then smiled again. She then told him to take a good rest and left with Aunt Cao and Zhuang.
