Hu Xu pursed his lips slightly, and his ears turned pink again.
Xu Jiang took the servant to the outer bookstore, asked him to sit down, then poured tea on the stove and took out some cakes for him to eat.
After finishing the meal, the servant said hesitantly, "Shopkeeper Xu, actually, my...master, wants to ask you for a jar of pine mushroom oil."
"Why didn't you say so earlier?" Xu Jiang tapped his head and said, "Wait, I'll get it right away."
She took the last two jars of mushroom oil and placed them in the basket he had brought. Thinking of the ten taels of silver Lou had rewarded her with, she felt she couldn't be stingy, so she opened the jar of potato wine Uncle Cao had sent her, took out a small half, and asked the servant to take it back.
After the servant had eaten and drunk his fill, he said goodbye to Xu Jiang and happily left with his basket.
Xu Jiang went back to the yard and washed two pears, giving one to herself and Hu Xu.
"These pears are so sweet." After finishing her bite, she stared at the remaining ten or so and said to Hu Xu, "Why not make it into autumn pear paste to moisten the lungs and nourish the qi."
Hu Xu was absorbed in painting and did not answer.
Xu Jiang stopped bothering him and replaced the teapot with a clay pot on the stove that had been lit in the morning, then went out to prepare the ingredients.
She first went to the rice shop next door and weighed out two pounds of rock honey, then went to Doctor Chen and weighed out half a pound of fresh red tangerine peel, two ounces of jujube, and one ounce of wolfberry. When Doctor Chen heard that she wanted to make autumn pear paste, he also gave her one ounce of Fritillaria.
Back at the shop, the water in the casserole was already boiling. She first put the shimeji in to boil, then began to peel the pears. She cored the peeled pears, cut them into pieces, and put them into the pot to stew. She also scraped the waxy coating off the washed orange peels and shredded them along with the dates. She ground the Fritillaria into a powder and removed the seeds from the goji berries.
Then add firewood and fan the flames. Wait until the water boils, then simmer gently until the pears are melted and the water dries up. Then add shredded orange peel, jujube, fritillaria powder, and wolfberries. Simmer until the pear paste is thick and solidifies when added to water. Then remove from the pot and put into the jar.
There were only a few jars left. Xu Jiang searched for a long time before finding four or five empty ones. It seemed that she had to ask Uncle Cao to find the kiln workers he knew to buy some more.
She rubbed her chin, an idea flashing through her mind. Since these distinguished guests liked the snacks she made, why not order a batch of custom pottery jars and clay pots, imprinted with the bookshop's logo. That way, when they gave them as gifts, they would know the reason behind them, and maybe even attract some customers to the bookshop.
Having made up her mind, she planned to go see Uncle Cao tomorrow and visit the market along the way to pick up some more mountain products. This would allow her to make the mushroom oil she had promised at the Lou Mansion, and also to store some for the winter.
She put the autumn pear paste into a jar, then boiled a pot of water and couldn't wait to make two bowls of it to share with Hu Xu.
It was getting dark, and Hu Xu's painting was finished. The two of them held their bowls and drank autumn pear paste soup while appreciating the painting.
The painting depicts a small world with persimmons, a girl and a donkey, and a sense of leisure and leisure comes to the face.
"Why is it included in the painting?" Xu Jiang pointed at the donkey with rolled eyes in the painting and almost burst out laughing. "Zhu Chun's brushwork is truly amazing. It's almost destroying the painting."
"It stared at me with that face for most of the time, so I just decided to draw it on too."
The two men looked at the donkey under the donkey shed. The donkey didn't understand what was going on. It cried "Ah" twice and then rolled its eyes at them.
The two of them immediately laughed so hard that they fell down.
At Lou's house, the servant was blocked by Lou Yunchun as soon as he stepped into the garden.
"Bring it here."
The servant handed him the basket and said with a smile, "In addition to the two jars of pine mushroom oil, Shopkeeper Xu also gave us a jar of wine. She said it was potato wine. I see the seal on the jar is still there, and this one was freshly opened and filled. I imagine she treasures it very much. I guess she couldn't bear to drink it herself, so I poured a small portion for you."
"You're the only one who talks too much." Lou Yunchun took a jar of wine and a jar of mushroom sauce, left one in the basket, and handed it back to the servant, instructing, "Take the remaining jar to the master."
"knew."
Lou Yunchun took the two jars back to his courtyard and ordered the kitchen to cook a bowl of noodles. He then poured two large spoonfuls of mushroom oil over it. The aroma of the noodles and pine mushrooms instantly ignited the appetite.
He couldn't wait to pick up a bowl of noodles with chopsticks and eat it, but he didn't feel anything. Instead, he became even hungrier. He took a few more chopsticks and soon, the bowl of noodles was gone. After finishing the meal, he felt that he was still not satisfied, so he asked the kitchen to cook another bowl. Only after chewing it slowly and carefully did he taste the true flavor of the noodles.
While eating noodles, I remembered that I still had a jar of wine.
He took a sip at first, but also found it tasteless. He drank a few more sips, but still felt unsatisfied. Finally, he simply drank up the wine in the jar.
"The pine mushroom oil is indeed good, but the wine is quite bland."
After Lou Yunchun had eaten and drunk his fill, he stood up and wanted to ask someone to collect the dishes, but his feet suddenly floated and he fell heavily to the ground.
He lay on the ground, staring at the spinning roof. After a while, he suddenly turned over and lay on the ground, vomiting violently.
It was another autumn rain. Xu Jiang stared at the sky worriedly, but finally she gritted her teeth, took a jar of autumn pear paste, held an umbrella, rode a donkey, and went to Taikangfang to find Uncle Cao.
Uncle Cao did not go to work on the rainy day, but did carpentry work at home. When he saw Xu Jiang coming in, he immediately stood up and greeted her with a smile.
"The boss is here."
"Come and take a look."
Xu Jiang entered the main room carrying Qiuli Gao. Seeing Zhuang sewing, she smiled and called out, "Hello, sister-in-law."
Seeing that she was also happy, Zhuang quickly invited her to sit over, and then went to the inner room to call Aunt Cao.
"Mom, the boss is here."
Before Aunt Cao arrived, she said, "Oh, what a rare guest!"
"Hello, aunt." Xu Jiang responded and handed the autumn pear paste to Zhuang.
Zhuang said, "How can this be good?"
Xu Jiang smiled and said, "I made some autumn pear paste myself and brought it to you to try. Sister-in-law, please don't be so polite."
Zhuang had no choice but to take it and thanked him repeatedly.
