Chapter 22 Twenty-two Cuts

As expected, the people from Jisheng Book Bureau never came again. However, after the news spread, Uncle Cao hurried over to inquire about the situation.

"Have you heard about it?" Xu Jiang was not surprised, because Uncle Cao lived in Shoukangfang.

Uncle Cao said worriedly, "It's all spread. It's said that a woman blocked the door of the bookstore to demand justice. The rumor is all over the place. Boss, this Jisheng Bookstore is the most powerful in the capital. It's wealthy and powerful. If we offend them, we'll probably get into trouble."

"Don't worry." Xu Jiang was calm. "It's better to make a fuss. They are doing things in secret. At least they won't dare to cause trouble again. If you compromise, they will eat your flesh today and gnaw your bones tomorrow."

Uncle Cao was still worried. After all, Xu Jiang was a young woman, newly born in the capital. How could she possibly handle a large bookstore like Jisheng? But he had no other options and could only worry.

But Cao Shu admired her from the bottom of his heart. Ever since he met Xu Jiang, she had always been kind and friendly to others, smiling, yet she had the courage to go to Ji Sheng alone to seek justice. It really shows that you can't judge a person by his appearance.

"Even if I didn't want to offend them, I've already offended them. Now that things have come to this, I'll keep an eye on them for the boss. If they make any moves, I'll let you know."

"Okay, thank you for your concern." He would surely not feel at ease if he wasn't asked to do something, so Xu Jiang didn't try to dissuade him. Then she said, "I've already drawn the design, and since you're here today, why don't we go take a look together? If it suits you, we can finalize it."

She took out the pottery jar pattern she had drawn in her spare time. It was a square seal with only four words "Zhanchun Shusi" written on it, and there was a auspicious cloud in the upper right corner.

"Alright, I'm free now."

Just as they were about to leave, Hu Xu arrived. Xu Jiang said with a smile, "I was just about to go out to do something. Since you're here, I won't lock the door."

"Boss, are you okay?" Hu Xu was panting heavily. He ran over as soon as he heard the news. "It's all my fault. If I were here, I wouldn't let you go alone."

Xu Jiang felt a warm feeling in his heart. "It's okay. They won't dare to do anything to me."

Hu Xu was relieved to see that she was safe and sound, and then he scolded, "These bullies! They will get their comeuppance sooner or later."

"This must be Brother Hu, right?" Uncle Cao had heard Xu San mention him before, but had never met him. When he saw him today, he was indeed handsome and looked decent.

Hu Xu bowed to Uncle Cao and said, "Exactly."

Xu Jiang introduced him, "This is Uncle Cao."

"Hello, Uncle Cao." Hu Xu recognized Uncle Cao's face and said, "The boss just said he had something to do, so go quickly. I'll be watching over the bookstore. If they come again, I'll definitely drive them away."

Xu Jiang suppressed a smile and said, "Don't worry, he probably won't come."

Hu Xu hadn't come for two or three days, so Xu Jiang told him some trivial matters and went with Cao Shu.

"The kiln is outside the city. It's hard to get there on this snowy day. Let's look for their shop in the East Market."

"good."

Since arriving in the capital, Xu Jiang had only been to the East Market once. It was there, meeting Xu San, that introduced her to Uncle Cao. The East Market was far away, and Uncle Cao hadn't ridden a horse that day, so Xu Jiang borrowed a donkey from the rice shop. The donkey was fast, and they reached the East Market in less than an hour.

The East Market and the West Market have the same layout, and business is equally bustling, especially at the end of the year, when thousands of people come in and out.

As soon as the two entered the gate, the noisy city sounds came over them, deafening them. Uncle Cao and Xu Jiang had to raise their voices to speak, otherwise they would not be able to hear clearly.

Uncle Cao helped Xu Jiang pull the donkey to prevent it from getting lost. The two of them finally crossed the crowded main street and arrived at the market in the south.

There were mostly stalls of craftsmen here, including carpenters like Uncle Cao, bricklayers, blacksmiths, potters, and other craftsmen... Along the way, many people greeted Uncle Cao. Not long after walking, Xu Jiang met Xu San and A Lai again. They were both very surprised when they saw her.

"The boss is here." Xu San greeted.

"Well, how is Third Brother Xu these days?"

Xu San smiled innocently, "It's a bit busy at the end of the year."

"It's good to be busy." Xu Jiang asked A Lai again, "A Lai, will you return home this year?"

A Lai shook his head and said, "I'm not going back. I'm working with my third brother." He added, "But I want to send a letter home to my mother to make her feel at ease."

Xu Jiang urged him, "Then go find some paper and pen. I'll come back to write after I finish my work."

A Lai said excitedly, "I'll go right away!" and ran away.

Third Brother Xu also said embarrassedly: "I also want to send a letter home to my mother."

"What's the big deal? I'll write it together later."

"Thank you, boss." Xu San grinned.

Seeing that the greeting had been made, Cao Shu led Xu Jiang to a stall filled with pottery and porcelain, and Xu Jiang was immediately fascinated. There were urns, pots, bottles, basins, cups, bowls, and plates of all kinds.

"Boss, this is the potter." Uncle Cao led a man over. He looked to be about the same age as Uncle Cao, with kind eyes and a face full of smiles.

"Hello, Master. May I ask what your name is?"

The potter smiled and said, "My last name is Tao, so you all call me Potter. Madam, you can call me whatever you want."

Xu Jiang laughed, it turned out that the potter was really a potter.

"I heard that my wife wants to make some pottery jars. Do you have any designs?"

"Yes." Xu Jiang handed him the drawing.

The potter took it, looked at it, and nodded, "Okay." He then led her to the front of his stall and pointed to several rows of pottery jars. He said, "Pick a few more shapes. These are all new styles."

Xu Jiang picked one up and examined it. Although it was pottery, it felt delicate and smooth to the touch, a testament to the craftsmanship. She selected five, varying in size and shape, but all elegant and simple, perfectly matching the pieces.

It’s also great for your own use!

"That's all. Make five of each first."

"Okay." The potter took note. "Want to choose your colors? We've recently introduced four new colors, divided into four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. We also have some floral, grass, bird, and animal designs to choose from."
