Xu Jiang's eyes widened as she listened, and she quickly said, "Yes, let me take a look first."
The potter took her to see the colors. When Xu Jiang saw the spring, summer, autumn and winter, her eyes lit up. Spring was pink, summer was green, autumn was yellow and winter was black. The colors were lightly burned and looked bright and elegant.
"This is a picture of flowers, plants, birds and animals. The two can be fired together." Xu Jiang looked over following the potter's instructions, but felt that the flowers, birds, insects and animals were a little lacking in interest. They were a bit dull, not light and realistic enough.
"Can I choose the patterns of flowers, birds, plants and animals myself?"
The potter nodded. "Of course."
Xu Jiang saw that he had a blank and asked, "Can I paint on a blank?"
"You painted it yourself?" The potter looked at her in surprise.
"Yeah." Xu Jiang nodded.
"Okay." The potter took out his brushes and paints, then brought a low stool for her to sit on.
While renovating the bookstore, Cao Shu had seen Xu Jiang painting and knew that she was a good painter, but he was still surprised to see her paintings on pottery.
She was holding a small clay pot that could be held in one hand. With just a few strokes, a vivid deer took shape.
She drew five deer in total, all of them with different expressions, but all of them were clever, cute and adorable.
The potter was amazed and said, "What a beautiful painting."
"Five sets of jars, one each for spring, summer, autumn and winter. The remaining set must be made of white pottery, and all of them will be fired with this set of deer patterns." After this set of pottery is finished, she will probably be reluctant to give it away.
"Okay." The potter noted.
"And burn twenty more small earthenware jars." She chose an ancient, wide-mouthed pottery jar. "I'll use this as my shop sign."
After she finished choosing, the potter calculated the price for her. "One colored, double-fired pottery is fifty wen, one white, double-fired pottery is thirty wen, and one earthenware jar is ten wen, totaling one thousand three hundred and fifty wen. I'll give you three hundred and fifty wen as a deposit, and there'll be exactly one or two taels of silver left, which I'll pay after you inspect the goods."
Xu Jiang readily paid the deposit and signed the contract. The potter glanced at Uncle Cao and said with a smile, "Since you were brought here by Uncle Cao, and this is our first time dealing with you, and you are so forthcoming, I will give you another set of teacups."
The potter pointed to a set of celadon porcelain with bamboo branches painted on it. It was elegant and smooth. Xu Jiang fell in love with it at first sight.
She said happily, "Thank you very much." After thinking for a moment, she added, "I will also give this set of deer paintings to the potter, so that people can choose and order them."
The potter originally wanted to ask if he could buy the set of deer paintings, but unexpectedly Xu Jiang gave it to him, and he was very happy.
It is impolite not to reciprocate. Xu Jiang held the set of teacups and happily said goodbye to the potter.
After finishing the work, Xu Jiang went back to write letters to Xu San and A Lai, and took advantage of the fact that she had an extra donkey with her today to buy a few boxes of charcoal and some food before heading to Yonghefang.
Before she reached Yonghefang, she met Lou Yunchun again.
Lou Yunchun was riding a horse, dressed in his official uniform, looking like he had just emerged from the imperial city. Xu Jiang was reluctant to greet him, so she pulled her two donkeys out of the way, but Lou Yunchun rode towards her.
"Hello, sir."
"Did you go to the East Market?"
"That's right, Your Excellency has come out of the Imperial Court?" Calculating the time, it was time to leave the court.
Lou Yunchun agreed and said, "I haven't finished reading the book yet. I'll return it tomorrow."
Xu Jiang smiled and said, "No problem, you can come back anytime."
Lou Yunchun nodded, said goodbye, and rode away.
Xu Jiang stared at his back and sighed, "What a dull personality."
"I was wondering if you'd been around Jisheng Bookstore lately. I never imagined you'd be hiding in this little bookshop."
Hu Xu stood in front of the bookstore, blocking several playboys who were trying to force their way in. "You are not welcome here, please leave."
"Oh, you're so arrogant now. Have you forgotten who was being chased around like a dog?" The leader sneered, "By the way, does anyone want your poem? If not, I can buy it for a few copper coins. I'm short of toilet paper at home."
After saying this, everyone burst into laughter.
Hu Xu's face turned pale. "If you don't leave, don't blame me for being rude."
"You're welcome? What? Still want to hit me?" The man rolled up his sleeves, puffed out his chest and pushed towards Hu Xu. "Come on, let's see if you dare to do it."
Several other people also gathered around him. Neighbors heard the commotion and came out to see what was happening, but seeing the man's unusual clothing, they didn't dare to speak rashly. The group was no different from thugs to begin with, and the more people watched, the more excited they became.
Hu Xu couldn't help but push, but several people took the opportunity to pin him to the ground and start beating him. The rice shop owner heard the commotion and came out. When he saw Hu Xu pinned to the ground, he rushed over to pull him out.
"What are you doing! If you don't let me go, I'll call the police!"
"Mind your own business, or I'll beat you up too." The two men pushed the rice shop owner away, while the other two continued to hold Hu Xu down and beat him up.
When Xu Jiang returned and saw this, she was immediately furious. She slapped the donkey's butt and rushed over with it. The rice shop owner saw her rushing towards him and quickly dodged to the side, pulling Hu Xu away from the stunned dandy's grasp.
Xu Jiang didn't rein in the donkeys, and the two donkeys charged forward, knocking several of the dandies to the ground. Two more tried to grab the men, but were caught by the donkeys' kicks and instantly fell to the ground. Before they could get up, the charcoal they were carrying fell like a shower of flowers, showering them with dust.
"Are you still fighting?" Xu Jiang rode on the donkey and stared at the few people coldly.
The dandies were badly injured from being bumped and kicked by the donkey. The leader was shaking with pain. "You... I'm going to report it to the police."
"Report to the police?" Xu Jiang smiled. "I don't think we need to report to the police. How about we go directly to the Jisheng Bookstore and report it? I'll take you all over there and talk to him about it."
