Chapter 248

Xu Jiang got up before daybreak. She took a lantern to fetch water, but saw someone in the kitchen had arrived before her.

"Azhi? So early?"

Wu Zhi was still sleepy, "Aren't you early too?"

"I couldn't sleep because I was thinking about going back to the bookstore today." I haven't been back to Huailiu Lane for more than two months. I don't know how the bookstore is doing, how Liang Mo is doing, and how my brother is doing.

"Your bookstore is there and you won't run away." Wu Zhi poured water for her.

Xu Jiang chuckled and asked, "What about you? Why are you getting up so early if you can't get some sleep?"

Wu Zhi said, "Thinking about having to submit the recommendation letter today, I can't sleep either."

Xu Jiang retorted, "The Medical Bureau won't run away."

Wu Zhi rolled his eyes at her, then poured himself some water. They both went back to their rooms, washed up, and got busy.

After everything was packed up, Xu Jiang took Yin Yin, whose mouth was swollen like a small carp, and took Wu Zhi with her to pay her respects to Madam Lou. Madam Lou also got up early, probably because she had received good news and had not slept well.

After a while, Lou Yunchun also arrived. He was going back to the Dali Temple to report to the court. The cleanup of the case of treason and collusion among the aristocracy caused by the imperial examination cheating case had not yet been completed. During the time he was away, the official business must have piled up like a mountain.

Lou Jing hasn't gotten up yet, or maybe he doesn't want to get up.

Mrs. Lou asked Lou Yunchun to ask for a day off on his behalf, and Lou Yunchun agreed. He had worked hard over the years and it would be good for him to take a break.

Because Mrs. Lou wanted to wait for Lou Jing to have breakfast together, and several people had to go out, she did not stay with them.

After the three of them left, Lou Jing got up from the bed, went to the outer room and asked his wife, "Are they gone?"

Mrs. Lou suppressed a laugh and said, "Let's go."

"It's better that he's gone." Last night, the wooden stake turned into a demon, and that stinky face gave him nightmares all night.

Lou Jing summoned some hot water to wash and change his clothes, then pulled Madam Lou aside and said, "The fruits and vegetables at Ziranxuan are quite ripe. I'll send someone to invite a country chef. Let's have a country meal today, okay?"

Mrs. Lou smiled and said, "Okay, all is good."

The sun rose in the east, and golden light covered the ground. Lou Yunchun, Xu Jiang, and Wu Zhi went out together. Xu Jiang treated Wu Zhi to an authentic Kyoto breakfast - mutton soup noodles. The three of them ate heartily, and Little Carp Mouth could only chew on white steamed buns.

Wu Zhi reminded that her mouth couldn't eat mutton, so she could only watch.

This is the result of greed.

After eating and drinking, Lou Yunchun first sent Xu Jiang and Yin Yin to Huailiu Lane, and then sent Wu Zhi to the medical office.

Xu Jiang stood at the entrance of the alley, watching the curling morning heat and listening to the long-lost sounds of the city, and only then did she realize that she was back on solid ground.

"Hey? Shopkeeper Xu, you're back?"

"Ah, you're back. Did you send the child to school?"

"Yes." After saying that, the woman yelled at the door, "You're so slow! You'll be in trouble if you're late!"

Then, a burst of hawking sounds came from the street.

"Grandma, I want to eat Hu Bing."

"I think you look like a Hu Bing!" The woman said tough words but had a soft heart. She smiled at Xu Jiang, then took the child and went to stop the breakfast vendor and bought a Hu Bing.

Hearing the shouting, Shopkeeper Wang pushed open the door and came out with a rice bowl. He squinted his eyes to look at the hawker at the entrance of the alley, but saw a woman leading a faceless maid walking towards this side.

Is he half asleep? Isn't that his sister?

Shopkeeper Wang rubbed his eyes and looked carefully again. Who else could the woman smiling at him be but Xu Jiang?

"Brother, good morning."

The rice bowl hit his foot with a loud bang, causing him to cry out in pain. At the same time, a burst of loud dog barking could be heard in the bookstore, making it quite lively.

"Sister, you're back!"

"Well, I'm back." Xu Jiang's body was reflected by the warm sun.
