Chapter 28 Twenty-Eight Slashes

I could still get away with it at the Dali Temple, but what would people think if I showed this badge to the mansion? Xu Jiang was speechless.

Seeing her staring at the badge in a daze, Lou Yunchun pushed it towards her again, then stood up and was about to say goodbye.

"I'm leaving."

She hadn't said she wouldn't accept it. Xu Jiang was both amused and annoyed, but she could only send him outside and watch him mount his horse.

"Hey." She called him and warned him, "Remember, don't eat anything too hard or too hot these two days."

Lou Yunchun nodded silently and rode away on his horse with a clatter.

Xu Jiang bolted the door, walked to the table, picked up the waist badge and looked at it in the light. The front was engraved with the three words "Lou Yunchun", and the back was engraved with a grinning tiger head.

Xu Jiang touched the tiger's head and thought of Lou Yunchun's burnt mouth. He couldn't help but chuckle, "What tiger? It's clearly a cat."

If you mention a cat, you will see a cat. It is really impossible to keep talking about it.

The next day, Xu Jiang stared at the little yellow fur ball shivering in front of the door, looking up at the sky in silence.

Where did the cat come from?

She took the dog and asked her neighbors, but they all said it was not theirs, so she had no choice but to take it back.

"You are also someone no one wants." Xu Jiang took the cat back to the bookstore, cooked a pot of rice porridge, and cut some dried fish and meat to mix with it for it to eat.

The kitten was extremely hungry. When it smelled the fragrance, it rushed over and licked it, then burned its tongue. She quickly picked it up and waited until the porridge cooled before letting it eat.

"Why are you the same as him?" She poked the kitten's head, watching it eat happily, and sighed, "It seems you are relying on me."

The kitten's belly was full after eating, then it crawled to the stove, curled up into a ball, and fell asleep with a gurgling sound.

Xu Jiang found a jar with a broken bottom, knocked off half of it, put the stubborn donkey's food and rags in it, and moved the kitten in.

He didn't wake up.

Xu Jiang stared at it and couldn't help but recall the time when she was a child and there were mice in her house that gnawed at her teacher's books. The teacher then hired a cat from another family to look after the house and even wrote a solemn letter of engagement.

The cat had come here on its own, and there was no place to propose marriage, so she simply wrote a cat-indenture agreement and worshipped the Kitchen God. Xu Jiang found paper and wrote the date and time of the engagement, along with the cat's characteristics and personality.

The yellow raccoon is thin and pleasing.

Finally, I filled in my expectations for the cat: "eat well, sleep well, and be fat and kind."

After writing it, he looked over it again and again before folding it and stuffing it under the cat's bed.

They are all our cats now, so we have to give them names.

Xu Jiang touched its nose, thought for a moment, and said with a smile, "I'll just call you Yue Nu, okay? Yue Nu?"

When the cat woke up, he took it to worship the Kitchen God and recognize the stubborn donkey and the big goose.

Shopkeeper Wang gave her the big goose, but she didn't find the right time to eat it, so she kept it. She kept the stubborn donkey company every day and they got along quite well.

"You will be a member of our family from now on."

Xu Jiang put it in the yard, and soon it was chased all over the yard by the geese.

"Boss, are you here?"

“Hey, here it comes!”

Xu Jiang went out to greet him. It turned out to be Xu San. Xu San brought someone else with him, this time a young woman.

He was about fourteen or fifteen, thin, and barely reached Xu Jiang's shoulders. His face was the size of a palm and somewhat sallow. He wasn't old enough to discern beauty from ugliness; all that was noticeable was his large eyes. His attire was simple and refreshing, and he had a calm demeanor that immediately drew Xu Jiang in with a sense of familiarity.

"Boss, I'll find someone for you. Please take a look at him first." Xu San winked at the young lady and asked her to come forward and identify the person.

The young lady stepped forward and bowed, "Greetings, Master. My name is Lin Hongchu."

What a good name! Xu Jiang quickly pulled them into the bookstore, poured them some tea, and asked them to sit down and chat.

Xu Jiang asked Xu San, "Where did you find this sister, brother San?"

"A few days ago, I went to a private school to repair the roof. I heard the teacher say that someone in the family was sick and needed money for medical treatment and medicine, so he wanted to ask the young lady to do some laundry to supplement the expenses. I asked around and heard that the young lady could read and write. I remembered that you asked me to find someone, so I brought her here to show you." Xu San's mouth was dry after speaking, and he took a sip of tea and continued, "At first, the teacher was reluctant, fearing that she would meet someone with bad intentions. I gave him repeated assurances before he let me bring her here."

After figuring out the whole story, Xu Jiang felt relieved and asked Lin Hongchu softly, "How many words do you know?"

"I know most of them. My father taught me since I was young. I can read and write."

Xu Jiang spread out paper for her to write on. Lin Hongchu wrote two lines: Picking chrysanthemums under the eastern fence, leisurely seeing the southern mountains.

The characters are soft but not weak, light but not floating, with an ethereal charm, yet with strength and vitality.

"It's really well written." Now because I am young, I still lack some strength. When I grow up a few years, it will definitely be a different picture.

"My father also taught me."

Like daughter, like father. I guess Mr. Lin also has good handwriting.

Seeing that she kept talking about her father, Xu Jiang asked with a smile, "What else did your father teach you?"

Lin Hongchu was a little shy. "I'll teach you everything he knows. He's been learning poetry and arithmetic lately."

Xu Jiang joked, "It seems a young master has arrived."

Lin Hongchu replied sternly, "I occasionally organize teaching plans for my father."

Xu Jiang choked and suddenly thought of Lu Zhen. The two of them were simply cast in the same mold. Although they were young, they always looked serious.

She pulled the person over to sit down and introduced the situation in the store and the work to be done.

"I have a free time in the shop. I usually do some cleaning, copying books, keeping accounts, and organizing books. If I go out, I will be responsible for taking care of the shop and serving customers. Can I do it?"

After listening to this, Lin Hongchu told Xu Jiang what he didn't know without hiding anything.

"I've never done bookkeeping or sales before, so I'm not sure if I'm up to the task." She paused, then added, "But I'm willing to learn."
