"How can I accept it for free every time?" Lou Jing said this, but his face was full of smiles. He rolled his eyes and said, "How about this, my wife's birthday is at the end of the month. Although it won't be a big event, I will invite relatives and friends to have a good time. I will invite the chef from Dexiangzhai to prepare the meal, and Madam Xu can come too and taste the chef's cooking. It will just be a courtesy."
"This..." Xu Jiang looked embarrassed. To be honest, she was not familiar with the Lou family enough to attend their family dinner, and it would be inappropriate to go there rashly.
"If Madam Xu refuses, then our acquaintance will be in vain." Lou Jing interrupted her with what he had just said.
Seeing this, Yuan Zuzhi hurriedly pulled him back and said, "Hey, old man, since Madam Xu is in trouble, don't force her."
Turning to Xu Jiang, he said, "Why don't you come to my house? Zhuchun told me that the mutton hotpot you made a few days ago was delicious. It just so happens that we just got two black sheep and are having a hard time figuring out how to eat them properly. Why don't you come and give us some advice so we can work together to have a full lamb banquet?"
Xu Jiang was at a loss for words. Why were they still arguing? Just as she was about to speak, she saw someone suddenly come in from the door.
"Zhuchun?"
Everyone looked over and saw Hu Xu holding a few books with one leg just stepping over the threshold.
Seeing everyone staring at him, Hu Xu hurried forward to greet the teachers, then said to Yuan Zuzhi, "I went to your house to look for you, but heard you were at the bookstore, so I came here."
After he finished speaking, he smiled at Xu Jiang and said, "I heard that the shop has hired new people, so I came over to take a look and see if there is anything I can do to help."
Xu Jiang pulled Lin Hongchu over and introduced him to Hu Xu. "This is our new helper, Lin Hongchu. Hongchu, this is your senior. Hu Xu, you can call him brother."
Lin Hongchu bowed to him, then looked him over carefully and said, "Brother, please take care of me in the future."
Hu Xu said gently, "If you don't understand anything, you can ask me."
Lin Hongchu was studious and couldn't bear to hear this. He immediately thought about it and asked, "Is Zhuchun your brother's name?"
Hu Xu nodded.
She showed an expression of sudden enlightenment, her eyes shifting between him and Xu Jiang, and she said, "So those portraits of the Dong family were all painted by my brother."
When these words were spoken, Xu Jiang and Hu Xu were stunned.
Xu Jiang quickly pulled Lin Hongchu over and almost covered her mouth with her hands.
Yuan Zuzhi was confused. "What portrait?"
Xu Jiang gave a dry laugh, not daring to look at Hu Xu's face. "Nothing much, just some random paintings this little girl found while sorting."
Hu Xu's face and ears flushed red, and he responded randomly.
Lou Jing interrupted them and said, "Madam Xu, this is settled. I'll have someone come and invite you on the day."
Yuan Zuzhi said hurriedly: "What do you mean it's settled? Madam Xu hasn't agreed yet."
Lou Jing slapped him, "What are you doing?"
Seeing the two arguing again, Xu Jiang felt a headache. She was thinking about rejecting both of them, but when she looked up, she unexpectedly met Hu Xu's shy and burning gaze.
The room was bustling with activity when suddenly the sound of horse hooves was heard outside.
Xu Jiang avoided Hu Xu's gaze, hoping to ease the awkward atmosphere by going out to see someone. Unexpectedly, as she reached the door, she bumped into Lou Yunchun who was coming towards her.
She was stunned on the spot.
