Chapter 30 Thirty Slashes

There was a moment of silence in the bookstore.

Lou Yunchun helped Xu Jiang steady herself, glanced at everyone in the room, and finally her gaze fell on Hu Xu.

The two looked at each other, then quickly looked away.

Lou Yunchun lowered his head and said to Xu Jiang, "I'm here to return the book."

Xu Jiang came back to her senses, quickly stepped away from him and invited him in.

Lou Jing also came back to his senses and beckoned his son to sit over. "So he really does know me. No wonder he was so concerned about Madam Xu and the bookstore. You're such a tight-lipped person, why don't you say anything?"

Xu Jiang made tea for Lou Yunchun and smiled at Lou Jing, saying, "I didn't know he was your son at first, but I only found out recently."

"Not surprising." Lou Jing waved his hand, his face full of disdain as he said, "He's been like this since he was a kid."

Hu Xu lowered his eyes slightly to hide the bitterness in his eyes. Seeing that he was still standing, Yuan Zuzhi quickly pulled him to sit down and introduced him to Lou Yunchun.

"What are you standing there for? Come and meet me. This is Mr. Lou's son, Lou Yunchun. Yunchun, this is my new student, Hu Xu."

Hu Xu bowed to Lou Yunchun and said, "Mr. Lou, nice to meet you."

Lou Yunchun returned his greeting and said, "Nice to meet you."

Du Hui saw that one of them was gentle and elegant, the other was cold and resolute, and he couldn't help but sigh: "Looking at these rising stars, I suddenly feel old."

"Who says it's not true? It seems like just yesterday when I took the imperial examination. In the blink of an eye, my son has grown up so much." Lou Jing looked at his own boy as if he was looking at cabbages in the field. He sighed and felt a little proud at the same time. He looked so good.

Yuan Zuzhi clapped Hu Xu's hand and said with an open mind, "Who doesn't grow old? Who doesn't die? As long as what you have learned is passed on, you will live forever."

As they talked, Xu Jiang brought Hu Xu a cup of tea. Seeing that it was the same teacup he used to use, Hu Xu's bitterness instantly dissipated, and he felt much more at ease.

Lou Yunchun looked at it, pursed his lips, and pushed his lamp out.

Xu Jiang thought he was bothered by the burn he got that day, so she took the food away and replaced it with a bowl of sugar water.

This time he drank it.

Hu Xu was also drinking tea. He lowered his eyes and saw the poetry book in front of Xu Jiang. Just as he was about to reach out, Xu Jiang handed it to him first.

Lou Yunchun drank the sugar water in one gulp and put the teacup on the table.

Hu Xu curled the corners of his lips.

The three elders were talking animatedly, and the two young talents were secretly competing with each other. It was really exciting, and Lin Hongchu watched with great interest.

Meow.

Suddenly, a cat's meow came from under the table. Everyone at the table lowered their heads to look for it, but the cat circled around them a few times, then climbed up Lou Yunchun's trouser leg and into his arms.

Lou Yunchun stared at the cat in his arms.

Xu Jiang laughed muffledly.

Lou Jing asked, "Where did the cat come from?"

Xu Jiang replied, "He came to the door on his own."

Lin Hongchu was afraid of offending Lou Yunchun and was about to hug the cat, but Lou Yunchun reached out and touched the cat's head and squeezed its paw pads.

She sat back down.

"It looks quite strong and chubby." Lou Jing also reached out and touched it.

Yuan Zuzhi tilted his head and took a look. "It's a good thing Brother Li didn't come today. If he had seen this little cat slave, he would have taken him back home."

"Mr. Li loves cats?" This is interesting.

Lou Jing smiled and said, "It's more than just love, it's downright obsessive. He even wrote a book called 'The Cicada Physiognomy' about it, teaching people how to identify and care for cats. If you follow his methods, I guarantee you'll raise this little yellow cat to perfection." He glanced at Lou Yunchun and said, "I have a copy at home. I'll ask Zhaoyue to bring it to you next time."

Lou Yunchun nodded upon hearing this, "Okay."

What's good about it? She didn't say she wanted it.

The cat rubbed against Lou Yunchun's arms and then started meowing.

Lin Hongchu said, "It must be hungry. I'll go get it something to eat."

Hearing this, Lou Yunchun handed the cat to her.

Lin Hongchu took the cat and coaxed her, "Yuenu, let's go. Sister will take you to eat something delicious."

Moon Slave? Lou Yunchun suddenly raised his head and looked at Xu Jiang, who turned away, pretending not to hear or see.

"It's getting late, and Zhuchun and I still have classes, so we won't delay any longer." Yuan Zuzhi stood up and said goodbye.

Since he was leaving, Hu Xu had no choice but to leave with him.

Lou Jing hurriedly said, "Let's go that way. We can stop by Brother Li's house and have an appointment with him to appreciate paintings."

Du Hui said, "If you all leave, it's boring for me to stay here alone. I might as well go to the government office and get the approval. It will also save me a lot of trouble."

When they reached the door, Lou Jing saw Lou Yunchun standing behind Xu Jiang and asked, "Zhaoyue, aren't you leaving?"

Lou Yunchun said, "I'm going back to the Dali Temple, not by the same route."

Lou Jing glanced at Xu Jiang and understood, then he reminded her, "Madam Xu, don't forget to come to Lou's house for a drink at the end of the month."

"Hey, I... um?" Yuan Zuzhi heard it and was about to speak, but he was dragged away with his mouth covered.

Xu Jiang burst out laughing.

Hu Xu stood outside the door, looking over the crowd at the two people standing together in the room. His heart suddenly felt empty and he suddenly felt uncomfortable.

Xu Jiang met his gaze and felt a little uncomfortable when she thought of those portraits.

Suddenly, Lou Yunchun took two steps forward and stood in front of her.

Hu Xu met his gloomy gaze, clenched his fists, turned around and left with Yuan Zuzhi.

The place is empty now, the tea is cold and the sound of the wine has faded, leaving only the cold. Lou Yunchun moves, and the surroundings seem to come alive again.

Xu Jiang stretched out her hand to him. He was stunned and wanted to shake it, but she dodged him.

"Didn't you say you were here to return the book? Where's the book?"

"On the horse."

Seeing him with a red neck, striding out of the door and walking under the tree to find a horse, Xu Jiang smiled secretly.

He took the book and handed it to Xu Jiang. After Xu Jiang took it, she went to look for the loan agreement and asked, "Do you still want to borrow it?"
