After the printing paper was ready, Xu Jiang started to carve it. She asked Lin Hongchu to watch over the guests, while she stayed in the printing room and concentrated on carving.
I haven't seen anyone for several days.
Every day after Lou Yunchun came out of the Dali Temple, he would go straight to the bookstore, but he would just sit there quietly reading, playing with the cat and drinking tea, and he didn't disturb her. Seeing that she was so engrossed in her reading that she often forgot to eat, he would have the house prepare and send it to her every day, and they would eat together before returning home.
During this time, Du Hui and several others came to inquire about the progress, but seeing that she was really busy, they just took a look, or picked a few books and left.
Hu Xu had also been here. He usually came early, helped Lin Hongchu sweep and tidy up, then went to see Xu Jiang and took a detour to Yuan Zuzhi's house to attend classes.
As the end of the month was approaching, Xu Jiang finally came out of the printing room, stared at the dark circles under his eyes, rolled into the quilt with his clothes on, and slept soundly.
When I woke up again, it was snowing again.
She had been overusing her eyes these days, and they were dry and sore, and she always saw double. As soon as she opened the door, she was so irritated by the sight of all white that she burst into tears.
"I'm going blind, I'm going blind." She quickly called Lin Hongchu to help her.
She covered her eyes with one hand and groped with the other. Suddenly, she heard footsteps in front of her and stretched out her hand to the person coming.
A hand caught her, warm, large, and powerful, not Lin Hongchu's little paws.
Xu Jiang paused, opened his eyes a little and vaguely saw the person coming.
"Zhuchun?"
Hu Xu gently reminded her, "Watch your step." Then he took her hand and led her into the bookstore.
Lin Hongchu hurried over to help her, letting her sit down and pouring her some tea. Hu Xu stared at her hand, seeing the tiny cuts all over it, frowned slightly, then stood up to find her some ointment.
Inside, Xu Jiang's eyes had improved considerably. Lin Hongchu settled her down and went to sweep the snow outside. Hu Xu brought the ointment, asked her to open her hands, and gently applied it to her.
"Thank you." Xu Jiang wanted to do it herself, but Hu Xu wouldn't let her, so she had to trouble him.
"You are printing it for me, so consider it as my contribution."
Xu Jiang smiled.
"Alright, don't touch water or anything else for now. Wait until the medicine is absorbed before moving again."
"knew."
Hu Xu took the medicine and suddenly said, "The imperial examination will be held in two months."
Xu Jiang thought he was nervous, so she said, "Don't worry, with Mr. Yuan's help, nothing will go wrong this time."
“I’m not worried about failing.”
Xu Jiang quickly spat twice, "Don't talk nonsense, it's unlucky."
Hu Xu smiled faintly and changed his tone, "I'm not worried about that."
"Then what are you worried about?"
"I'm worried about you."
"What should I worry about? I'm not going anywhere else."
I don't want to go out, but I can't stop people from coming.
Hu Xu thought of Lou Yunchun. He heard that he came here often these days, so he couldn't sit still.
Xu Jiang comforted him, "Just focus on preparing for the exam. When you're done, I'll personally prepare a banquet for you and we'll celebrate."
"Okay." The timing was wrong, Hu Xu sighed, and didn't say anything in the end.
Xu Jiang raised his finger and said, "I'll have a great gift for you then."
Hu Xu knew she was referring to the poetry collection, and he felt a wave of emotion. Everyone said his mentor was Yuan Zuzhi, but only he knew the true mentor was the person sitting across from him. He could never repay Xu Jiang for her kindness in his lifetime.
He remembered what Shopkeeper Wang said about how he could never repay him, so he pledged his love to him.
His heart was moved. If he passed the exam this time, he would definitely come to her and promise to marry her. He just hoped that she would do as he said and not go out and just wait for him.
You don't have to wait long, just two months will be enough.
Lin Hongchu came into the room after seeing Hu Xu leave. She saw Xu Jiang holding up her hands and sipping tea in an uncivilized manner, so she hurried over to serve her the tea.
"My throat is finally relieved. I've been holding it in for a long time."
Hu Xu didn't want to be so rude to her, and he was also afraid that if she said she was thirsty, he would feed her like Hong Chu did, so she endured it again and again.
Lin Hongchu couldn't help laughing.
"Why are you grinning like an idiot? The snow has been cleared."
"I've finished sweeping." Lin Hongchu endured it again and again, and suddenly moved closer to her and asked in a low voice: "Boss, are Brother Zhuchun and Master Lou both interested in you?"
Xu Jiang almost spit out a mouthful of tea.
She wiped her mouth and said angrily, "What nonsense are you talking about."
"I'm not talking nonsense. Everyone can see it."
"You are still young, don't ask about adult matters."
"I'll be coming of age next year." It's the age when love is just beginning, so it's inevitable to be curious, "What about you, Boss? Who do you like?"
"Go away." Xu Jiang was annoyed by her and got up to pack her things.
I haven't visited Lu Zhen at Uncle Cao's house for some time. I'm afraid he has fallen behind in his studies. I'm going to take advantage of the snow today to go and see him and discuss Lu Zhen's enrollment with them.
She has already chosen someone to be Lu Zhen’s teacher.
Lin Hongchu led the donkey out for her and asked, "Boss, when will you be back? If Master Lou comes later, should we have him wait for you in the inn, or pick you up?"
Oh my god, this little girl is never going to stop.
Xu Jiang quickly mounted her donkey, wrapped herself tightly in her cloak, and ran away while muttering to herself.
Having not been outside for a long time, Xu Jiang felt refreshed. Even though it had just snowed, the wind blowing in her face seemed to be filled with ice chips, stinging her so much that it hurt to breathe.
The donkey hadn't been out for a while, so it ran so wildly that it almost threw Xu Jiang off. They ran to Shoukangfang, passing by Jisheng Bookstore. The thin steward was at the door directing the servants to sweep the snow.
As soon as he saw her coming, he quickly grabbed the broom and threw snow towards her, covering her head and face. Xu Jiang didn't get angry yet, but the stubborn donkey thought the thin steward was playing with him, so he rushed over with Xu Jiang and trampled the snow pile in front of his door into a mess.
