Xu Jiang was startled when she opened the door and saw Lin Qinnian and Lin Hongchu standing there. She quickly put away her lazy expression and invited them in.
"Master Lin, I'm sorry to have kept you waiting." Then he secretly glared at Lin Hongchu. Why didn't you knock on the door when you came?
Lin Hongchu looked back at Xu Jiang innocently. She wanted to knock on the door, but her father wouldn't let her. What else could she do?
Xu Jiang asked Lin Hongchu to light the stove while she boiled water and made tea. After working for a long time, they finally let Lin Qinnian drink a sip of hot tea.
Seeing Xu Jiang and his daughter standing, Lin Qinnian said calmly, "Don't be shy. Sit down and talk."
The two of them sat down then. Xu Jiang was in a daze for a moment, not knowing who was the host and who was the guest.
She cleared her throat and took the initiative to talk about copying the printing paper.
"Master, Hongchu should have conveyed my intentions to you. I believe you have already made a decision by the time you come here today. I just wonder if you have any other requests or conditions? If so, please feel free to ask, and I will do my best to meet them."
"I've already read the collection, so I agreed to copy it. I don't want any money, just twenty copies left for my school after it's printed. If you agree, then write it. If not, forget it."
Xu Jiang didn't dare to disobey him, so she would do whatever he said. At most, she could pay Lin Hongchu more wages, which could be considered as compensation.
"Are you going to copy it here? Or are you going to copy it back home?"
"It will only take two days at most. I can just copy it in this shop."
After the two of them agreed, Xu Jiang took out the printing paper for the woodblock print and gave it to him, as well as writing brush, ink, paper, and inkstone, good tea and delicious food, trying her best to make his copying as comfortable and relaxed as possible.
Then, thinking that Mrs. Lin was alone at home and feeling uneasy, he gave Lin Hongchu some food and asked her to go back to accompany her mother.
Seeing that his father had no objection, Lin Hongchu obediently went back.
While Lin Qinnian was copying books, Xu Jiang was grinding ink and organizing them on the side, and also observing him.
The more she read, the more fascinated she became, and the more familiar it seemed to her. She felt as if she had seen these words somewhere before, but she just couldn't remember where.
After two hours of copying, Lin Qinnian's face showed signs of fatigue, and Xu Jiang hurriedly urged him to rest. Lin Qinnian drank a sip of tea and stood up to walk around. Xu Jiang waited on him attentively, worried that he would feel uncomfortable.
Lin Qinnian nearly bumped into her several times, and finally couldn't help but ask, "Why are you following me?"
Xu Jiang laughed dryly twice and immediately moved away from him, but his eyes were still fixed on him, paying attention to his movements at all times.
Lin Qinnian felt uncomfortable being stared at by her, and simply glared at her expressionlessly. Only then did Xu Jiang calm down and pretend to tidy up the debris.
Lin Qinnian finally breathed a sigh of relief and began to browse the books on the bookshelf.
Xu Jiang secretly patted her chest, remembering the fear she once felt at the mercy of her teacher. She tossed and turned the already organized items, her mind searching for where she had seen Lin Qinnian's handwriting before.
Did I remember it wrong?
No, words like that are hard to forget once you see them, not to mention that she has a keen eye for fonts.
I have definitely seen it, but it has been so long that the image has become a little blurry.
How long has it been? Xu Jiang stood up suddenly and turned to stare at Lin Qinnian in a daze.
Lin Qinnian was startled by her movement and was about to say something when he heard her call out anxiously, "Mr. Rushan?"
Lin Qinnian was stunned for a moment, thinking that his name was no secret, and answered frankly, "What is it?"
It’s really him!
"You... please wait a moment." Xu Jiang rushed into the backyard in a panic, found a locked wooden box from his house, opened it with trembling hands, and then took out a stack of letters from it.
She searched through each letter one by one, and finally saw Lin Qinnian's handwriting.
It's him, that's right.
Xu Jiang took the letter to the shop, hesitated for a moment, and finally strode up to Lin Qinnian and respectfully handed the letter to him.
"This is..." Lin Qinnian took the letter and saw the words "Zheyun Personally Written" on the envelope. He was shocked and then quickly opened the letter.
"This is the letter I wrote to Brother Zheyun. Why is it in your hands?"
Xu Jiang's eyes were slightly red, and she said softly, "He is my teacher and also my adoptive father."
"No wonder." Lin Qinnian hurriedly asked, "Then where is he now?"
Xu Jiang said sadly, "He has passed away."
Lin Qinnian was silent for a long time, and finally let out a sigh.
"I didn't know my soul was gone, only dreams kept me company. I never thought that the separation would be forever."
He looked at the woman before him, feeling that there might be some divine providence in this world. He then advised, "Don't be too sad. He has always followed the natural way and never cared about life and death. Why should you and I restrict ourselves and disturb his soul?"
Xu Jiang wiped her tears and smiled, "You're right." In the end, the master didn't even allow her to set up a tablet. If he knew that she was crying like this, he would probably glare at her and point at her head and scold her.
"Since you've come to the capital and reunited with me, just treat me as another relative. We can take care of each other in the future so that we won't be alone and helpless."
"Oh." Xu Jiang was touched by his words and felt much closer to him. Even his serious face didn't seem scary anymore.
The two exchanged a few pleasantries and asked about old times before Lin Qinnian continued copying the book.
Xu Jiang, now a relative, became even more attentive, circling him constantly. Finally, he became dizzy and couldn't even copy his book. He couldn't help but scold her, and only then did he quiet down.
Lin Qinnian spent two days copying the entire volume. Xu Jiang escorted him to the door and forced him to take many things home. Lin Qinnian couldn't refuse, so he had no choice but to carry the large and small bags with him.
After walking a few steps, he turned back and asked Xu Jiang to come and sit with him when she had time. Xu Jiang happily agreed.
Lin Hongchu felt a little jealous when she saw this, so Xu Jiang rubbed her face and made her smile.
