After Xu Jiang persuaded Lou Yunchun for a long time, she finally made him give up, and then asked Yilale to bring him a pot of hangover soup.
After the alcohol wore off, he finally sobered up a little.
Xu Jiang asked again, "Do you still recognize me?"
He nodded without saying anything.
Xu Jiang breathed a sigh of relief and began to lay out the paper to draw Mo Ming's portrait. After a moment's thought, she began to paint. Soon, the image of a rugged Hu man came to life on the paper.
"It's him!" Wu Luolan excitedly held up the portrait, tears filling her beautiful eyes. "Finally, there's news about him."
Then he asked Xu Jiang, "You said he was in Furong City?"
"Yes." Xu Jiang nodded, "But that was over a year ago. I wonder if he's still there now."
Wu Lanluo wiped away his tears and said firmly: "I will go find him."
Yilale said sadly, "You will have to leave eventually." Then he cheered up and began to make plans for her, "After a few days, when the Hu merchants arrive in the capital, they will turn from Ningyuan Road to Furong City. I will ask them to take you there."
Ulolan looked at him gratefully, "Thank you, Ilale."
Xu Jiang noticed that the relationship between the two was a little unusual. She didn't want to listen too much or ask too much, so she went to see Lou Yunchun, but saw him holding a pen and drawing on paper with his head down.
What to draw?
She lowered her eyes and saw that the figure of a woman was already about 70% complete in his painting.
He painted the scene of people sitting around the fire and eating fish that night. The woman in the painting was holding a bowl in her hand, feeding the yellow civet cat at her feet, but she didn't know what she saw and turned back to smile at people.
Lou Yunchun was painting with great concentration, sketching out the woman's expression bit by bit with his soft brush, which made Xu Jiang blush.
After finishing his painting, Lou Yunchun put down his brush, looked up at her expectantly, as if asking for a reward.
Xu Jiang paused, took the pen from him, and drew the person opposite the woman in the painting.
It was just a silhouette, but after it was added, the scene of the painting suddenly changed, from the warmth of a woman feeding a cat to the tenderness of a man and a woman entangled in love.
After Xu Jiang finished painting, her heart was pounding. She looked up and saw three pairs of eyes on her. She was immediately startled.
Lou Yunchun held her hand in time to prevent the brush and ink from falling and smudge the scroll.
"I really envy you two." Uluolan couldn't help but sigh.
Xu Jiang stared at the painting and said sadly in his heart: I really can't defend myself now.
Lou Yunchun carefully rolled up the painting and placed it beside him, as if he wanted to take it back with him.
On the stage, a drumbeat sounded, and Wuluolan said, "I'm going to go on stage." She put away Mo Ming's portrait and said to Xu Jiang, "My lady, please sit down. I'll be back soon."
Ilale stood up and followed, "Today I will dance with you."
Ulolan smiled and nodded.
Xu Jiang sighed.
Lou Yunchun stared at her and covered her hand which was on the table.
Xu Jiang looked up suddenly and crashed into a surging sea of emotions.
She moved her fingers, but they were held tighter. The emotion in Lou Yunchun's eyes was so direct and frank that she had nowhere to hide, and in the end she had no choice but to let him pester her.
With a burst of rapid drum beats, the song and dance show began. First, a group of half-naked men came on stage, carrying Hu drums on their waists, tumbling and jumping.
The guests in the audience cheered.
Xu Jiang and Lou Yunchun were both lost in thought, dumbfounded and silent.
The sound of the Hu drums rang out, and the men shouted to the rhythm, bringing the atmosphere to a climax. Suddenly, the sound of a Qiang flute drifted in, like a spring breeze dancing in the wild yellow sand, slowly soothing the fierceness of the Hu drums.
Wuluolan, wearing a beaded hat and a blue veil, spun with her graceful waist. Silver bells were tied around her wrists and ankles, rustling as she danced.
Everyone in the audience held their breath, not daring to make a sound for fear of disturbing her.
Xu Jiang was also attracted by her and stared at her in amazement.
As she danced, a row of sheng and xiao pipes suddenly sounded, and someone was singing:
Hu Teng was from Liangzhou, with skin as white as jade and a nose as sharp as a cone.
The light tung cloth shirt is rolled up front and back, with a long grape-shaped belt hanging on one side.
I kneel before the tent and speak in my own language, then dance for you with my sleeves and collar lifted.
The old shepherd of Anxi wiped away his tears and watched, and the poet from Luoxia copied the song for him.
He raised his eyebrows and moved his eyes as he stepped on the flowery carpet, his beaded hat tilted as he sweated red.
Drunk but leaning east and west, her boots were weak in front of the lamp.
All the quick kicks and movements were in sync with the rhythm, and his hands were placed on his waist like a fading moon.
The zither suddenly ended its tune, and the painted horns made the hair in the city walls whistle.
Hu Teng'er, Hu Teng'er, do you know that the road to my hometown is blocked?
It is "Hu Teng'er" written by Li Sheng.
After Ulolan finished dancing, the sound of Hu drums rang out again, but a man and a drum came on stage, and that man was Yilale.
Ulolan smiled and danced around Ilale to the beat of the drum.
The Hu drums clanged, the Hu dances were enchanting, and as their eyes flickered, one admired, the other was reluctant to leave. Uluolan's tears fell as she danced, splashing onto Ilale's Hu drum, and she sighed with regret.
Finally, as the drums stopped beating, Ulolan flew away quietly like a blue bird, and Ilale stood on the stage for a long time before he stopped and left.
Cheers rang out from the audience, and Xu Jiang was filled with the lingering sound in her heart. She felt the same homesickness and separation as the others.
Lou Yunchun squeezed her hand. She came back to her senses and met his soothing eyes, and her heart suddenly felt at ease.
When Yilale returned, Xu Jiang quickly withdrew her hand, pretending not to notice Lou Yunchun's discontented expression. She praised Yilale, saying, "They say the Hu people are good at dancing. Today has been an eye-opener. No wonder even the nobles in the palace are fascinated by it and are vying to imitate it."
Ilale said proudly: "Ulolan is the best dancer here. Anyone will be fascinated by her."
"Yes, even I was stunned."
As she spoke, she saw Wuluolan approaching from a distance. But halfway through, a man grabbed her and pulled her towards his seat.
