Chapter 40: Forty Cuts

"Don't be so unreasonable. His business was done by the two of us. It's also fate between him and you and me. Why should we thank him for it? Letting him study hard and live a good life with you is the best way to repay him."

Uncle Cao nodded repeatedly, "Okay, okay." He smiled and said, "If Zhen'er knew this news, she would be so happy. Speaking of which, our family can be said to have double happiness."

Xu Jiang was also happy for him, "Who says it's not true?"

After seeing Uncle Cao off, Xu Jiang began to sweep the snow. When she reached the tree at the door, Lin Hongchu arrived.

"Boss!" The little girl came over half running and half jumping. Xu Jiang was about to tell her to slow down, but before she could say anything, she saw her fall headfirst into the snow.

Xu Jiang burst out laughing and went to help him while laughing.

Lin Hongchu didn't care. He brushed the snow clean and took the broom from Xu Jiang's hand.

"How is Auntie?"

"I feel much better after taking Doctor Chen's medicine. I even cooked fish for him yesterday."

Thinking of the fish, Xu Jiang's smile faded a little. Hu Xu didn't bring an umbrella when he went back that day, and she didn't know how he had been doing in the past two days.

"Shopkeeper Xu, are you sweeping the snow?"

Xu Jiang looked over and saw Shopkeeper Wang carrying his son out, each holding a broom in his hand.

"Yes, sweep it away quickly before the snow melts."

"Look how hardworking he is." Shopkeeper Wang hit his son's butt with a broom and said, "Hurry up and sweep up."

His son pouted and went to sweep the snow reluctantly.

After sending his son off, Shopkeeper Wang, feeling refreshed, crunched through the snow as he made his way over. He glanced at Lin Hongchu first, then pulled Xu Jiang aside and whispered, "Have you told Zhuchun about you and Mr. Lou?"

Xu Jiang asked curiously, "How do you know?"

How else could he know? He had been smelling something and was about to come to the bookstore to eat, but he saw Hu Xu coming from afar.

Thinking that the two of them couldn't succeed, I couldn't bear to watch and didn't go in. But my heart was still itching, so I waited at my door. Not long after, I saw Hu Xu come out alone and rush into the snow.

It was snowing so heavily, and he was afraid that people would get sick from the cold, so he quickly grabbed the person and gave him an umbrella.

Hu Xu said nothing, but just thanked him with a pale face and red eyes, then left in a hurry.

"Seeing him come out of your shop and run recklessly into the snow, what else is there to not understand?"

"Is he alright?"

"I gave him an umbrella, so he should be fine. But he looks so distraught, it's heartbreaking to see him." Shopkeeper Wang sighed, "What a pity, what a pity."

After saying that, he worriedly asked, "Will we not even be able to be friends anymore in the future?"

Hearing that he was fine, Xu Jiang felt relieved and said with a smile: "Don't worry, that's Zhu Chun, you don't know him yet? Once you figure it out, everything will be fine."

"I hope so."

Shopkeeper Wang sighed again, so much so that Xu Jiang's ears hurt. He quickly said to him, "Your son has run away."

"What?" Shopkeeper Wang turned quickly and saw a broom lying on its side in front of his door. His son was nowhere to be seen. His eyebrows raised, he cursed, "You little bastard!" and immediately ran back to the house to catch him.

Seeing him leave, Lin Hongchu quickly came over and asked quietly, "Brother Zhuchun has been here? Did you know?"

Xu Jiang nodded.

"Then he..."

Xu Jiang sighed, "It will all be fine."

Hu Xu is a man who is gentle on the outside but strong on the inside, and he has great ambitions. He will not give up.
