Hu Xu was not polite either. He picked up a piece and put it in the bowl, then started eating it politely.
Xu Jiang had been craving for it for a long time, so he picked up a piece and ate it.
It’s good, the cooking time and taste are just right, the fish is sweet and fresh, and the sauce is spicy and rich. It’s perfect for sweating and driving away the cold when eaten with wine.
"It's delicious." Hu Xuzhan said, "Only you can make it taste like this."
"Try drinking another sip of wine."
They each picked up their wine glasses and took a sip. The light taste of the potato wine washed away the spiciness of the sauce, but the aftereffect came back and made their lungs feel hot.
After a while, Hu Xu recovered, his face slightly red from the smoke.
Xu Jiang smiled and said, "Is it warm now?"
"I almost got knocked down." Hu Xu quickly filled half a bowl of fish soup and drank it to suppress the smell of alcohol.
Xu Jiang thought of Lou Yunchun and her smile deepened, then she poured herself another glass.
When Hu Xu saw that smile, his heart skipped a beat and he looked away.
Then he was stunned.
Xu Jiang heard that he didn't say anything, so she looked up and saw him staring stupidly behind her.
Her heart sank, and she suddenly understood.
"Zhuchun?"
Hu Xu came back to his senses, looked away in a panic, and forced a smile: "What's wrong?"
Xu Jiang sighed inwardly and said softly, "I once heard of a way to cook fish in Shu."
"What method?"
"Ferry Fish."
"What is Ferry Fish?"
"After frying the seasonings, add water and bring to a boil, then put the whole fish in and cook it, and it's called crossing the fish."
Hu Xu listened quietly.
"Fish are born in water, they transform into water, and that is the crossing."
Hearing this, Hu Xu felt a slight pain in his heart.
Xu Jiang lowered her eyes and said softly, "Life and death become one, that is a journey. Coming and going become one, that is a journey. Always and forever become one, that is also a journey."
Always come back to one.
Where does he begin, and where does he end?
Since it has no beginning and no end, it will naturally return to one.
Hu Xu was very smart. He looked at the woman in front of him and knew that he was too late.
He never spoke, and he never would.
Hu Xu felt tears welling up in his eyes and nose, but he forced himself to hold them back and said with a smile, "That's an interesting way of saying it."
Seeing him like this, Xu Jiang felt depressed, but she also managed to smile.
"Yes, I thought it was interesting when I first heard it. But after traveling more, I gradually began to appreciate its true meaning." She paused for a moment before continuing, "Most of the time, people and fish are no different."
"Zhu Chun, I'm grateful for your advice." After a moment of silence, Hu Xu poured each of them a glass of wine, then raised his glass and said, "I toast to the host."
Xu Jiang touched him lightly, "I toast you too."
Cheers to our acquaintance, which is destined but not meant to be.
After finishing his drink, Hu Xu took a moment to calm down before saying, "I should go now."
"Okay, I'll take you there."
Xu Jiang wanted to stand up and see him off, but Hu Xu refused, "No need, I can go by myself."
After taking a few steps, he turned back and said with a smile: "The boss promised to keep the first collection of poems for me."
Xu Jiang smiled and nodded, "It's a deal."
"Then I'm leaving." Hu Xu walked out the door without looking back.
Xu Jiang stared at the fish on the table, but her appetite suddenly vanished. She stood up and walked to the door. The sky was white, and there was no sign of Hu Xu.
She was about to close the door and go back inside when she looked down and saw an umbrella standing by the door. She picked up the umbrella and wanted to chase after him, but she didn't know where to chase him.
The heavy snow lasted for two days before it stopped. A thick layer of snow accumulated on the donkey shed. Hearing the shed creaking under the weight of the snow, Xu Jiang looked for a pole to beat the snow off.
She was afraid that the shed would collapse and the donkey would be crushed to death. Then she would be able to have more food.
Just after the fight, she heard shouting from the front. She went out to see and saw it was Uncle Cao.
"Uncle Cao, why are you here? Please come in."
"Boss, have you forgotten? Tomorrow is the fifth day of the lunar year."
"I haven't forgotten, I haven't forgotten. Tomorrow Third Brother Xu will pick up the bride. Remember that."
Uncle Cao's face was also full of joy. "I came to deliver the invitation to you on his behalf. I was too busy the past few days and couldn't make it because of the heavy snow yesterday and two days ago. Today, the snow has stopped, so I hurried to deliver it to you. I'm afraid you'll be late."
Xu Jiang took the invitation and looked at it. Xu San's family was in Taikangfang, not far from Cao Shu's family. The wedding was scheduled for the hour of Wei, which was a good time. By then, the snow on the streets should have been cleared and would not block the road.
"The boss can come early tomorrow and the bride will leave from my house."
"real?"
Uncle Cao smiled and nodded. "The courtyard Wang Chan's family rented is crowded and cramped, making it inconvenient. Your Aunt Cao adopted Wang Chan as her adopted daughter and married her off from my family. This not only made things easier for them, but also brought some joy to our family." He then sighed, "We haven't had a wedding in a while, and with Jin'er being born this year, it'd be nice to have something lively and exciting."
"That's great. I'll come over early tomorrow to help." Xu Jiang laughed again. "Speaking of which, when Third Brother Xu comes to pick up the bride, I don't know who to help."
Uncle Cao laughed heartily. "Of course, he's helping my daughter."
Xu Jiang was also amused. After they talked for a while, Cao Shu took out a few pieces of paper from his bosom and said, "This is what Jin'er wrote these days. He asked me to show it to the boss."
Xu Jiang took it and looked at it. It was square, neat and well written.
"It's written very well. It seems you have practiced hard." Xu Jiang put the paper away, asked Uncle Cao to sit down, and poured him more tea.
"Uncle Cao, I have something to tell you."
Uncle Cao understood, "What about Jin'er's schooling?"
Xu Jiang nodded and said with a smile, "Master Lin has agreed. When he recovers, we will choose an auspicious day and take him to become your disciple."
"Good, good." Uncle Cao smiled happily and quickly thanked Xu Jiang. "Thank you, Master. It's all thanks to you, otherwise Jin'er wouldn't be where he is today. When Jin'er gets better, I'll have him come and kowtow to you and offer you tea."
