Chapter 43: Forty-three Slashes

Seeing that she couldn't stop him, Xu Jiang had to give up. Then she poured a bowl of wine for herself and him using the wine bag that Ilale had opened.

The two men raised their bowls and clinked them together. Xu Jiang took a sip first and found it sweet. After two more sips, he felt a heat rising from his internal organs. He quickly put down the bowl and suppressed the heat.

This wine has a strong aftertaste.

Yilale was used to drinking, so he drank the whole bowl in one breath and exclaimed, "Beautiful!"

After suppressing the strong smell of alcohol, Xu Jiang slowly finished the bowl of wine and couldn't help but praise it: "It is indeed beautiful. Although not as brightly colored as wine, the taste is more mellow and the strength is also strong. Although I have never been to the Western Regions, drinking this makes me feel like I have been there. I feel like I am being tossed and turned by the scorching sun of the Western Regions."

Ilale's beard was almost flying up to his eyebrows. "This wine is not in vain. Meeting you is like meeting a close friend. No amount of silver can buy it." After saying that, he poured another bowl for Xu Jiang.

Xu Jiang was in high spirits. There were still so many fish in the fish tank, and now there was good wine to go with his friends, so he thought, why not have a good meal and drink? So he suggested, "Just drinking is boring. I've had your barbecue before, so why don't you try my grilled fish today?"

Yilale patted the table and said cheerfully, "Okay!"

"Hongchu, you..." Xu Jiang was about to ask Lin Hongchu to look after the store, but when he turned around, he saw that her eyes were staring straight ahead and her cheeks were red.

Xu Jiang cried out in her heart, "Oh no, I wasn't paying attention and let this girl get drunk!"

Thinking of Master Lin's cold face, Xu Jiang's hair stood on end.

Yilale waved his hand carelessly and said, "It's okay. It's inevitable that you'll get drunk the first time you drink. It will be fine after the alcohol wears off."

Finally, she had no choice but to put the person by the fire, find a coat to cover her, and let her drink.

The kitchen was packed and there was no place to stand, so Xu Jiang and Yilale moved the stove to the big tree in front of the door, which was spacious and could be used for guarding the kitchen.

Ilale was responsible for making charcoal, and she was responsible for killing and marinating the fish. Both of them were good at cooking and worked together very well.

Half an hour later, the fish was put on the rack and grilled.

Xu Jiang cut up a total of ten fish, each weighing more than two pounds, and marinated five of them with five-spice and five with spicy flavors.

Don’t think it’s too much. You may not be able to eat enough later. There will always be foodies with dog noses who will smell the food and beg for food.

Sure enough, as the aroma of grilled fish was blown away by the wind, Shopkeeper Wang staggered towards this side.

"What kind of food are you cooking? It smells so good that I can smell it from the shop."

"Grilled fish."

Shopkeeper Wang approached and was surprised to see that the man in charge of the fire was a Hu man. Yilaer greeted him naturally, "Would you like to eat together?"

This sentence just suited the taste of Shopkeeper Wang. He squeezed in next to Ilale, and after a few words, the two of them started calling each other brother.

Xu Jiang was grilling fish, laughing and shaking her head.

As the time was approaching, Lou Yunchun also arrived. Yilale greeted him from afar, very enthusiastically.

"Mr. Lou, why are you here so late?"

"Just finished the court."

Shopkeeper Wang pulled him aside and whispered, "Do you know him?"

Yilaer glanced at Xu Jiang and said with a smile, "I recognize him. He's Madam Xu's lover."

Xu Jiang almost threw the fish on their faces.

Yilaer quickly dodged the sparks and shook his head, saying, "You Central Plains people are so reserved. In our hometown, if you find your sweetheart during the day, you'll roll under the grape trellis at night."

Shopkeeper Wang was greatly shocked.

Xu Jiang thought with a dull face: Fortunately, Lin Hongchu was drunk, otherwise her reputation of hanging out with this guy would be confirmed.

Lou Yunchun rode closer, and since the tree was now occupied by them, he had no choice but to lead his horse to the donkey shed. Shortly after entering, they heard the stubborn donkey braying at the top of its lungs, deafeningly loud.

Xu Jiang climbed to the side of the door and saw that the stubborn donkey was huddled in a corner, looking at the big guy who was occupying its nest and eating its grass. It yelled at the top of its voice, but was too cowardly to dare to get close.

Xu Jiang laughed and scolded: "It's what you deserve."

Lou Yunchun came over and wiped the charcoal ash off her face with a smile. Xu Jiang suddenly remembered his touch last night, and a flush of heat rolled over her face.

Lou Yunchun also felt embarrassed, but he wanted to be closer to her. Just as he was about to hold her hand, he heard a shout from under the tree.

"Madam Xu, the fish is about to get burnt."

“Here I come!”

Fortunately, Lou Yunchun was standing in the yard, and the people under the tree could not see what the two were doing, otherwise they would not have been able to eat fish that night.

Seeing the two men coming one after the other, both with smiles on their faces, Shopkeeper Wang's jealousy towards Hu Xu was dispelled a lot.

It is rare to have mutual understanding and affection between two people. Although Mr. Lou was a little cold, the look in his eyes when he looked at Manager Xu was as if tears were about to drip out. I think he was sincere. Since he was sincere, he should be blessed.

The fish was already golden brown on both sides. Xu Jiang saw that it was almost done, so he brushed the remaining seasoning from the marinated fish onto the fish to dry out the moisture. Once the sauce adhered to the fish, he could remove it from the heat and enjoy it.

Xu Jiang put two more fish on the grill, and Lou Yunchun fanned the dust for her.

There was a stone table and bench under the tree, so there was no need to bring any other. Shopkeeper Wang went to the kitchen to get bowls and chopsticks with familiarity. Xu Jiang shoved a pair of bamboo tongs into Lou Yunchun's hands and asked him to flip the fish. She went back to the shop to get some wine and woke Lin Hongchu up to eat some fish.

Lin Hongchu fainted for a while and woke up in a daze. When she smelled the aroma of grilled fish, she felt very hungry. She staggered to her feet and walked out the door.

Smelling the fragrance, Yue Nu stretched and jumped out of its nest, then followed her with its tail raised.

Xu Jiang looked at the lively group of people under the tree, and felt both peaceful and happy.
